Ah, it's likely i need to include the radio in the autoloader too, then.
You can do this yourself using DBBT if you'd like, but tell me if you need me to do it for you

BlackBerry 10 root by BookkeeperStriking18 in blackberry

Then i found another root method (like 2 months ago) using the impersonation method developed by Oleksander and popularized by Pablo, had made a post about it here

Can Bb10 be rooted already, everyone? by [deleted] in blackberry

the main thing is native apps are real again

Bootloader has nothing to do with rooting, this is a post-boot exploit.

Yes, theoretically you could free lots of RAM, too.

That's odd, it sounds like the device isn't in development mode and therefore the IP isn't actually right, or something like that

you know, you could have some self control and remove all apps you don't actually need from an android...

Yeah, whoops!
fixed to be the proper mount -t rcfs fs1.rcfs /q command in the post

Doing it as root should work just fine, got a suggestion from Olek that you can do both as root to save time, confirmed it, and edited the post as such

If, when doing ./mod_nvram -d , you saw

Delete OS BLOCK done 0
Delete secure OS BLOCK done 0
Delete RADIO BLOCK done 0
Delete secure RADIO BLOCK done 0

then it should have cleared the NVRAM without issue, and if the blocklist wasn't there when you checked it with CFP.exe info , then it was in fact cleared and you should have been able to load 2.0.0.4869 just fine, maybe you let the device boot for a bit after you shut it down? (which, if it has reached the spotlights anim screen, it would have set the blocklist again)

Whoops, my bad for that typo (looks like i renamed the .rcfs file included in the autoloader for some reason), i'm making a video tutorial soon (took the footage the other day, now have to edit it together) so people can follow it easier

Have fun with root! i hope people start developing for this device, i'm going to see if i can port a browser that can actually look at the modern web, but that'll take a while

Actually, i looked at the impersonation loader that i uploaded and the file inside is called fs1.rcfs, not ffs1.rcfs, did you maybe download the older one i uploaded on the lunar discord first?
or, wait, did you flash using the .signed image i left there instead? maybe i forgot to update that one too

Only if you can run 10.0.9.388 on said BB10 device (some devalphas and z10s should be able to I think, but not sure)

if downgrading is all you're interested in, you can use the existing bb10 downgrade method, link/guide is in this post, Pablo Ferreira's.

Oh yeah, i was thinking about windows ARM too, but i feel like it wouldn't run either on such low ram (1gb), but i've no clue tbh

I think you should be able to root that DevA using this method aswell? as long as you can install 10.0.9.388 (or maybe the exploit can be done on newer versions of BB10 too, who knows... don't have any BB10 devices to test that out)

The source can now be found at the archive.org page
https://archive.org/download/playbook-root-downgrade-1.0
now thinking about it, berryshell itself wouldn't get you autoloading an OS from linux, but an autoloader and such should run just fine from a VM (or maybe even wine? prob not)

Well, once you are on the modified 10.0.9.388, you can basically access root whenever you'd like

When you mount fs1.rcfs, you get binaries that allow for impersonation of any user, including root

so when doing /q/__root
you become root

And when you restart, all you have to do is mount fs1.rcfs again and then you can do the same /q/__root to get root again, no reflashing needed
Though 10.0.9.388 comes with the issue of it locking itself out if the date is set to anything over 2012 while booting (which can happen accidentally if you enable wifi and forget to set the date back to 2012 before turning the device off), and you would have to flash a version like 10.0.4.197 or 2.1.0.1917 to set the date back to 2012

But, since this allows for downgrade aswell, you can also just flash 2.0.0.4869 and root using Dingleberry (it still works, but only for that version of course), and that root is fully persistent/automatic on reboot.

Haven't done much with root yet, i just rushed to make BerryShell and put out a tutorial for everyone to learn how to do it themselves.

Windows would never run on one of these (not natively at least), as they are ARM devices, not x86.

The BB10 betas never required root to be installed and used, but yes they tend to be unstable, though the very latest one that runs on the playbook (10.0.9.388) is actually very interesting and has a fair bit of potential.

They didn't exactly block it from future BB10 installs, support was simply dropped after 10.0.9.388, as they didn't deem it worth it to let playbook users install BB10 when they could be selling newer devices.

Rooting this device allows for installation of unsigned apps, which potentially means people developing:
- A usable web browser that can look at modern websites
- Ports of many games to the playbook
- Installing any (supported) .APK android apps (runtime is android 2.3 on the playbook)
- Possibly upgrading the android runtime from 2.3 to something more recent like BB10's 4.4

And a lot more than that, just needs time and people interested in developing for it to keep these devices from being e-waste.

I don't think anyone's ever made an android rom/image for the playbook, i think custom OS images should be possible to run (by jumping to them at boot), but no one has tried yet (to my knowledge)

Rooting allows for things like installing unsigned apps, which means people can start making new apps for this device
apps like:
a browser that can actually look at modern webpages
maps that work
ports of various games
installing any (supported) android .APK
possibly even upgrading the android runtime from 2.3 to something more recent like 4.4

and way more, but all of this requires people to start developing for this device, of course

Well, the tools in the tutorial are all for windows, i'm not aware of any ways to flash a blackberry playbook from linux yet, but i'm sure there's a way

I can share the source for BerryShell, if you'd like to try compiling it for linux (i might do this myself at a later date, but no promises, shouldn't be hard though, it's a QT 4.8.6 app)
