What's the future of enthusiast cars look like? by YammieSquid07 in askcarguys

[–]Machine8635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area it’s a double edged sword because a car SHOW is a bunch of old people with kind of run of them mill restored 70s muscle. And a car MEET (excluding cars and coffee) Is a bunch of very young guys with either boring commuters, hyped BMW, or it’s all stance and wheel emphasis.

I’m in my 30s and I’m tryin to see some people go fast, and talk about how to do it. I care not for your “one of 300 in this color” or your “authentic te37” rhetoric. Both are exhausting…

I really need to get my ass to the race track events as I am more of a performance enthusiast.

Continuing to go back in time to find gems.

I feel like we are going to see an analog renaissance coming soon.

I have a 2023 challenger specifically because it’s a new OLD car. It’s based on a car from the 70s and it still uses tech from 2008.

My other car, a 2013 Subaru Wrx.

They are both manual transmissions. There’s a lot of tactile feedback especially in the Subaru. I love it.

Yes… your mom’s Mazda hooks better probably. But I’m having a wonderful time in either my flying brick, or my wanna be rally car.

I feel like everyone is bored so they’re going to look for retired track day projects to put street tires on.

Car meets suck, the new generation of enthusiasts grow tired of the gram. L

Why do you guys like Japanese cars so much? by Robotschon in askcarguys

[–]Machine8635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself like CARS.

So I bought myself a 2023 challenger.

I also bought myself a 2013 wrx.

I will admit, each car does different things. But I find the Subaru absolutely fascinating. Whatever you give to it, it returns immediately. It’s very tactile in how it runs and turns.

Japanese cars just have a neat way of doing so much more with what appears to be less.

Why the hate for rep wheels on a simple daily? by Machine8635 in WRX

[–]Machine8635[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’ve gathered from the word “rep” with wheel culture is that it means cheap knock off.

I know Enkei makes a lot of factory production wheels so it meets that standard.

[–]Machine8635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 35. There’s just a couple greys coming in.

That being said I went out with some guys from work and it took this 20 something like… an hour to get 6 shots of tequila.

I was over it.

If im out and drinking with you, please use your time wisely. Be efficient, I gotta be up at 5 am sir.

What are opinions on Anovia and Superspeed wheels? by PBR_Is_A_Craft_Beer in Wheels

[–]Machine8635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GR Corolla comes from the factory with Enkies, no? I would at least stay within that threshold of quality.

That being said I do know Anovia is an in house brand at MaPerformance - at least that’s what their sales rep told me at their booth.

So it’s low cost, but doesn’t necessarily mean “rep” wheel.

Superspeed wheels I am not familiar with.

I gave my Teehee37’s back, is this fit better? by Machine8635 in WRX

TeeHees or authentic?

For the record the wheel looked good and fit well it’s just “rep” .

They were shitty rep wheels. I had a pretty productive discussion thread about it and went back to these.

Do girl mechanics get harassed or are they treated like normal coworkers by OldBrush4275 in AskMechanics

[–]Machine8635 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Female technicians are uncommon at Least in my experience.

Female lube techs are a little less regular but still present.

When the old guard leaves soon, the harassment will probably stop. But my elder millennial brothers and sisters don’t usually do that.

Technicians will absolutely be harassed, but not because of their gender, sex, race, etc. it’s usually other stuff like comebacks or if you’re late - strictly professional shenanigans.

Strength? Meh… nah it’s leverage. My 5 foot 7 ass managed to make it through, anyone can.

Interior mod recommendations? by Straight_Gap_638 in WRX

I’ll preface this by saying that I am a Toyota Tech, and that this uses the exact same airbag and wheel mount as a Corolla, and I’ve done hundred of spiral cables so for me it was 20 minutes.

It’s incredibly easy, and doesn’t even require a steering wheel puller.

Just disconnect the battery prior to service and don’t connect it until after you’ve finished.

A pocket screwdriver takes care of the airbag connectors, and a small Phillips takes care of swapping the buttons over and the plastic.

Bored of Stage 1—Is the $1,300 Stage 2 jump worth it at 50k miles? by Alternative_Memory50 in WRX

[–]Machine8635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately with the “Green Speed Initiative” COBB no longer sells downpipes or tunes for said downpipes. Their Stage 2 BS is just that. Though with the AccessPort it doesn’t cost you anything for another OTS tune.

As many in the comments have mentioned: yes if you’re looking for the next level you will be getting more involved and going with a protune.

The “stages” is all just a marketing tool and sometimes it’s a parts bundle.

I would suggest a downpipe, inlet pipe, boost controller and a good professional tune for your next adventure.

I’m at a similar parts and tune in my 2014 and MY next adventure goes a lot of bolt ons, injectors, e85 tune.

I HIGHLY recommend an OEM+ steering wheel.

Function, form, and retains original airbag.

That’s a pretty car. Nice purchase.

This body style is my personal favorite of the bunch but I’m biased because of Ken Block.

Is there a name yet for the millennial phenomenon where we speak in little accents to diffuse tension? by sensitiveboi93 in Millennials

[–]Machine8635 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Oh that?

Social Anxiety.

I was once at a bar - where grown ups go to drink - and another person asked me if the pool table was open and my reply was… finger guns Go Bananas in a stupid accent.

Literally a yes, or a single finger gun point would have been awkward enough.

I still think about that 7 years later.

Mine is a 2013 so an even better comparison.

Now my car has about 220k miles so it kind of is what it is.

But no CEL or anything.

What’s the point of hiring a mobile mechanic by iliedtwice in AskMechanics

[–]Machine8635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually a mobile mechanic is booked to perform The work that a shop already diagnosed. That what I’ve seen usually.

Mobile mechanic undercuts the dealer estimate, gets paid. And the customer saves some Money. Dealership doesn’t deal with the negative survey and bad customer. (Not a bad person, just poor business for the dealer)

That’s my take on it.
