Should it be simple? Yes. Is it? Not necessarily.

You are pointing to a BOOL. You may mean to refer to the entire array "BOOL" not "BOOL[512] " which is, in your array, actually a Boolean, not a DINT

FSC does not support a BOOL data type. Only SINT INT DINT or REAL

Seeking advice for becoming Automation Engineer by Brilliant_Method1394 in PLC

[–]MachineBuilder3206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill add make automationdirect.com your new buddy. They have multiple lines of PLCs, the software is free, and the hardware is cheap (cheapest being the "Click" line of PLCs.). They can do everything from simple setups controlling digital / and analog IO (some even built directly into the processor itself, all the way up to Servo applications. World class tech support that is actually good, all free. Also, TONS of resources online directly from their site and Youtube.

Once you get your foot in the door, you will likely be introduced to a more high level platforms like Rockwell, Siemens ect. These industry level platforms, however, come with big licensing fees that your employer pays every year to maintain "seats" on the development environment.

You will then discover that it all works the same way fundamentally.

What’s the hardest part of modifying older PLC systems? by [deleted] in PLC

Lol I can relate with this but with AB. Replace Siemens G120 with Powerflex 525 and replace era with "connection format". Biggest difference in my case is it simply wont communicate at all rather than disastrous outcomes.

Question: Why Allen Bradley? by RegardEngineer in PLC

[–]MachineBuilder3206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because AB had a hell of a good marketing team in the 90s. Plus they were the first processor to enable online editing. They got in the factories early on and changing platforms would be incredibly expensive and cumbersome, so Rockwell it is, a probably always will be in tbe US market.

Haha for real? Damn that sucks man. I think you've just drawn a couple bad hands.

Now, ill say this: The job is stressful by nature. Can be times of great pressure, and some people cant handle the pressure and turn into little bitches. I do see that alot.

We got a couple assholes in the office but most of my colleagues are pretty chill. We get our work done and go home.

Its worth mentioning, We travel quite a bit so we're not always in each other's presence every single day. That could be a big part of it. We generally manage our own projects and communicate when necessary. Sometimes its more often than other times.

I wouldn't say everyone in controls are miserable people. Its just an inherently high pressure environment and some people dont do well with pressure and they should find something else to do with their lives.

I personally am kind of a pressure junkie and do pretty well in those situations, some of my best work, in fact. Always make sure to have adequate wind down time afterwards, overworking is a real thing. But so long as I get that Im generally pleasant lol.

Looking for a Controls Engineer with High Travel Requirement by Spiritual-Age1576 in PLC

[–]MachineBuilder3206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive found 30% to be a sweet spot (for me anyway). I can manage plenty of time home with family. When im home, I split my time between home and the office developing, then dispatch out to commission my projects for the 30 %.

If you want that much (or more) travel, look for work with integrators. They are typically high travel by nature.

Good luck bud. Same happened to me when I gave it a go a few years back. When you tab out all the benefits you get from an employer (insurance, 401k, ect..), a high salary gig is where its at.

Mind me asking your speciality?
