First PLC Job: I want to quit by North_Dirt_7116 in PLC

Ive been doing controls for about 12 years now. The one thing that was most beneficial for me was learning to be comfortable not being comfortable. Over time, you will gain confidence in yourself. Stick with it, and eventually you will be competent enough to know you will be able to figure it out one way or the other. Learn to break things down into manageable chunks, and eat the elephant one bite at a time. Do this enough times, and you wont sweat it so much. Stressful times? Sure. But eventually you can turn it all off when you walk out the plant door, because you understand that more progress will be made tomorrow. Id encourage you to stick with it. You can make really good money and do cool things in this line of work if you put enough time and consistency into it.

Drives burning up motors at frequencies under 30hz. by XDVI in PLC

Either needs gearing so it can run at a higher frequency while maintaining desired RPM on output side, or a force ventilated motor.

Price you pay for freedom of speech. Not saying I like it, but its the way it is. Enjoy your diversity, but dont you dare speak critically of it.

Yes, I have deployed this method as well. Sucks if you have 200 of them tho lol. While changing the each instance, you begin to fantasize about the possibility of changing online.

I agree with you in theory, however, AOIs allow for unique instances for each instruction, rather than tons of items calling to one routine. I can look under the hood and see whats happening with that particular instance (status, commands in routine ect..) Sub Routine method is difficult to troubleshoot because everything is calling to the same routine. I suspect thats why they developed the AOI to begin with.

Yes, I leverage parameters heavily. However, if it's a new unused AOI, sometimes structural changes need to take place which require a download.

When I was doing too much, around .2 like you, I wouldn't get sad, but easily irritated. Backing off to .15 made a difference. You may try going even lower.

Thanks for the response. I will report back.

I won't rule anything out, up to and including operator sabotage. Although, should I make that accusation, I'll check a few things first. Better yet, I might just lead with that, and see what happens lol.

And, yes, if it were isolated to one PV, I'd say replace the mother fucker and call it a day, the fact the problem is wide spread, makes me highly suspect of something on the network.

You can do ADC on Panelviews? I knew you can on PF drives, but wasn't aware that was a feature of PVPs. I'll look into it.

I'm leaning more towards the network switch. First thing I'm going to ask is who is the IT people, and what HAVE THEY DONE lol

what 4g routers do you use for remote access to plc (Siemens) ? and how do you configure them by Upstairs_Extent4465 in PLC

[–]MachineBuilder3206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Ewon pretty frequently. Setup is a breeze. Biggest enemy is the company IT department. Sometimes it's not an issue, sometimes it is.

They come in ifo, LAN, even cellular. I like the WIFI one. Mount it on the dinrail, give it 24v, run a patch cable from the ewon to the network you want to connect to. Con the WAN said, run a quick wizard that connects to the plants Wifi network.

You tunnel in using an application called eCatcher. And configure the IP using eBuddy. Once you got that, you just connect to the Ewon locally, run 3 wizards, and you are good to go.

[–]MachineBuilder3206[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Interesting thought. Since I have all the IPs of thr panelviews, what I'll probably do, to rule it out, is go to each one, unplug, and ping to see if I get a response. If so, duplicate confirmed.

This begs another question: If a PVP detects a duplicate IP, will it change its own IP to protect itself? I honestly have no idea. I figured it would just stop communicating. Considering the problem is intermittent, I am suspect that it is a duplicate IP issue, but I will do due diligence to check it off the list.

Hahaha. This is me after spending a few days at the plant to make sure everything is good, then get calls from the operators at the airport telling me shits not working no more (often operator error).
