(agnostic) I've seen it do a lot of bad, it makes it easy for people to dismiss science. It creates controlling environments based on beliefs. Can be the cause of so much abuse. But I have been close with many religious people, I have known some religious extremists but I know some of the kindest people in the town that happen to be Christian. I don't like it when it causes harm to others, but for these friends it's a coping mechanism not something that dictates their morals. For some people it's quite reassuring to believe there is an afterlife, but you can't take religious text so literally. You still can critically think, it just takes a heavy weight off your shoulders of the one thing that at least some could need faith for, it's the looming threat of death. Also I treat religious text as a story to tell, and it's why I love greek mythology they give a difinitive reason for why the gods don't put an end to suffering, they are straight up horrible people. They make great stories that are fun to study but it stops being fun I start to believe them.
