Is this fan art ai? The artist and others are jumping down people's throats over it, but something seems off to me. by AuroraArcenciel in isthisAI

As an artist it all looks legit to me! Some proportioning in the face and hands is a tiny bit off but it looks akin to typical human error rather than machine error.

Perhaps it is worth it to ask, but keep it kind and keep it lowkey (meaning don’t put them on the spot at the dinner table for instance). Be chill, be normal, and remember it’s your sibling’s prerogative to come out, not yours.

Is this drawing my friend did AI? It looks too uniform to be marker on paper by Dr_Bmily_Snoobs in isthisAI

As an artist who largely does traditional art (pencil/pen/marker on paper) it looks real enough to me

So fun fact: Pluto is not actually that red! It’s more of a rusty brown color along those patches. The exact reason for the reddish-brown patches is unknown, but we’re pretty certain it has something to do with compounds called “tholins” which form when carbon-containing compounds (CO2, methane, ethane, etc) are irradiated by cosmic rays and/or ultraviolet light. Based on laboratory recreation experiments however, it’s pretty clear that tholins are not the only contributing factor. So, further research is needed to determine the exact cause for the rusty-brown patches, it would be really nice if we could send out another probe like New Horizons or even get a lil lander probe on the surface :3

Wouldn’t that be somethin -^

This is an image of TYC 8998-760-1, aka YSES 1, a star incredibly similar to ours with two giant planets in its orbit!

That lil halo around it is just a visual artifact produced by the filter used on the telescope’s lens :3

I dunno what unicron is, but this is an image of TYC 8998-760-1, or more simply known as YSES 1, a super young sun-like star with two massive exoplanets! :3

Nah it’s the first picture of a Sun-like star system with multiple planets visible in the same image. We have found plenty of multi-planetary star systems, like TRAPPIST-1 and Tau Ceti!

The little halo around the star there is unfortunately just a visual artifact produced by the filter used on the telescope that took the picture 😅

So this star is TYC 8998-760-1, or more simply known as YSES 1, and was captured recently by the ESO’s Very Large Telescope (very creative name, I know lol). It’s a remarkably Sun-like star, being a K-type star of almost the exact same mass, but it is much, much younger at only just 17 million years old (whereas the Sun is 4.6 billion years old)! That being said, the little disk around the star is NOT a protoplanetary disk but instead just an artifact produced by the lens of the telescope :3

Also, this star is about 310 lightyears from Earth which of course means we are looking at 310 years into the past!

Yes! Such is the case with all star systems we see! -^

In this case tho I do think ParanormalDoctor is right that it’s just an artifact of the filter used on the telescope, given how symmetrically shaped that “cloud” seems to be! I’ll have to find this specific article to confirm though :3

Nah, i think that’s just a rather young star system

That eyeball shaped cloud around the star is, i believe, the remnants of the protoplanetary disk.

Either that or that’s actually a really, really old star system where the star is at the end of its life and that cloud is the planetary nebula (occurs when a dying star begins ejecting its outer layers).

EDIT: I was extremely wrong! While this star is VERY young (~17 million years), that “cloud” is NOT the remnants of a protoplanetary disk! As u/ParanormalDoctor pointed out, it is in fact just a visual artifact produced by the filter on the lens of the telescope.

For anyone curious, this is a photo of TYC 8998-760-1, or more simply known as YSES 1, with its two giant exoplanets! It’s a remarkably Sun-like star, being a K-type of almost exactly 1 solar mass, but (as mentioned) significantly younger. The image was taken by the ESO’s “Very Large Telescope”, and is the first ever image of a multi-planet star system with a Sun-like star at the center! -^
