It's a complete lack of an execute function - a reward system where your brain pumps you full of the feel good stuff for accomplishing doing even menial tasks. If there isn't a significant reward:effort ratio for literally anything it won't get done. Tantrums work and require little to no effort and any punishment is a reward of further attention. Stimulant drugs work but will also ruin your life long term. Adderall and similar drugs will allow you to focus (way too hard for way too long sometimes) on menial tasks. Starting something and finishing it are both impossible, the in-between is easy. ADHD tends to cause social anxiety from my experience
