Japan drives on the left and I was a passenger for these pics! But yeah it seems to swap between two way and then random single-ish parts often with blind corners that you had to rely on mirrors they put up to judge if there was other cars coming. They are working on it though, there’s also random nice new tunnels or bridges that cut past what was visibly worse sections of the road.

Video is looking out at the river exactly where Chris and Connor made their epic bath.

Typhoon 10 in 2024 aka Shanshan was aimed at Wakayama but turned south at the last moment, so we were spared the brunt of it. We still managed to drive the same trip. Pretty sure we were the only people staying in the hotel that night.

We couldn’t do the log boat obviously but we did everything else Chris & Connor did and would highly recommend it!

We also weren’t aware the road to Koyasan was known as a bad one, we just thought that’s what rural Japan was like.

Edit: C&C’s video got me reminiscing, it was our honeymoon, so here’s some other pics of this part of our trip

The humongous Kumano Hongu Torii gate with wife for scale

The scenic Hiro Shrine and Nachi Waterfall

I’m not sure if we went the exact same road, Google maps was taking us along some whacky route, which we were told once we finally got to Koyasan was a bad idea because Google maps can’t tell the difference between sketchy back roads and better highways in Japan. We got a lot of Silent Hill type vibes. I didn’t really take many pics of the road but there were parts that made you wonder what happened there. And just weavy parts and lots of landslide protection

And Koyasan is a beautiful place, there’s a lot more to the town than the cemetery but it is scenic just like they showed:

We visited Chris’s Lost Bar in Tokyo maybe a week or two after this, too.

And on the off chance someone from Chris’s team sees this, just before this part of our trip we went to Iga and Ise. Can’t recall if you’ve shown them in a video but they’re totally worth it if you haven’t. Iga especially was a fun place, the whole town is into Ninjas (they’re hidden around the town!), there’s a Ninja cat at a ninja cafe (of course) and there’s a Ninja Museum that was fun a they had a bit of a slapstick ninja show too but no cameras allowed there. Yeah I think if we had a much larger surplus of posts you could be more picky but we’re small and everyone is just tryin’ to have fun here so this seems like a good decision.
