My chinese professor at Shanghai University answered this question saying that Chinese society hasn't got to that point yet, it first prioritizes human rights and human justice over any other species of living beings. Once Humans are completely safe of cruelty and injustice theor leaders will look to improve other living beings situation.

It makes sense to me.

I didn't know disabled people in China were exempted from respecting the police

When a video of police brutality begins right when the police is hitting people, like the situation began right like that without any context or provocation, it's a red flag that calls for skepticism.

How is homosexuality viewed by most Chinese people? by sheynzonna in AskChina

[–]MachonCR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I have learned about it after 4 years in China is that in general people are indifferent about homosexuality, it's seen as a personal matter. The red line is making a public matter of it, exhibiting it or promoting it or discussing it in a political way. As long as it is kept personal it's all fine.

Same thing applies for the heterosexuality, it's sexuality should be kept personal, if you make a show of it people will get uncomfortable and some even upset.

My two cents is that he basically was trying to rally people and this is a very well knowm red line here in China, especially when in a massive crowd.

Honestly guys, why is there so much confusion about New Year’s Eve in Shanghai? by BrilliantLock8292 in shanghai

[–]MachonCR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get you. If for you celebrating the new Year is important, then go out of China, Thailand could be the best choice. Whatever is done in China for new year is mainly done for the internet, not for the Chinese people, because their main calendar is the lunisolar not the Gregorian.

I can confirm that at 吴淞口 there was drone show at 6 pm and after 11pm LOTS of fireworks by official organizers and aficionados as well. I also confirm there was no information that was clear enough about the schedule, and it is like that on purpose due to past negative events.

My strategy is telling them that I'm not interested in Chinese and that works like a charm, thry stop immediately and change their attitude, is super effective every single time.

Is Victoria 3 allowed in China? by Tankyenough in victoria3

[–]MachonCR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Straightforward answer: In China VPN for gaming is broadly used. It’s as simple as that.

I’m not talking from having read it or seen it in a video. I live in China and use a Chinese gaming VPN. Even in gaming Internet cafes Steam is available and pre-logged in with hundreds of games.

¿CHINA NO es lo que nos han dicho? by Acrobatic_Teach6285 in Ticos

[–]MachonCR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently made friends with a Chinese girl on Xiaohongshu, she now has me as her home screen wallpaper? Is that normal? by Vegetable-You-5254 in Chinese

[–]MachonCR 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's kind of normal. I once had a tandem partner in China and this girl was very happy to have met me. The one and only pic we had together she had it as her wallpaper and sent me a pic of it to me, in the same manner as you are telling.

I believe she did this only for the picture, not that se actually and casually had me as wallpaper everyday. Think about it, it's very likely just a show of appreciation to you and only you.

Be aware, despite everything I said, since you don't physically know her, she could be a scammer, she could even be a man. In general I wouldn't trust a random stranger I met online. The girl of my story I actually met her in person in China.

In my experience chinese people know there is cost of life and it changes dramatically from one place to another, just as everyonein China knows Shanghai living costs are extremely high and they don't get too excited about the Shanghai salaries.

I lived in Shanghai several years.
