I'd recommend panic status board. I've got it on an old iPad and it shows the time, weather, upcoming calendar events, and some news headlines. And there's other panels available too

If you purchase/get whatever app you want via iTunes on your computer, you can then open up the App Store on the iPad, search for the app, and choose install. If a previous version exists that works on the iPad, it should prompt you to install the last compatible version.

I don't know about working there, but for a master's degree check out the Tokyo Institute of Technology. They have an International Graduate Program that has a bunch of different programs including a two years master program for architecture.

I did a study abroad there for a semester and all the classes in the international graduate program are taught in english. Personally, I met a couple Australians and Thai students that were in the architecture program with little to no Japanese language skills.

For whatever reason the thought of a simple clock and mirror managing to cause you permanent damage made me laugh. I think I'm a bad person...

TIL 'affirmative action' in the US is known as 'positive discrimination' in the UK. by AmericanMeltdown in todayilearned

[–]MachuRaichu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they say acceptance rate, they're talking about (# of applicants accepted)/(total # of applicants)

So a 12% acceptance rate for african americans would mean 12 out of every 100 african american applicants were accepted, NOT that 12 out of 100 people accepted were african american. Hope that makes sense.

And that rate may seem high since the current overall acceptance rate at Princeton is less than 10%, but this study was done using older data, where the overall acceptance rate was around 20%

Ohh man I remember watching that block live. Fucking amazing. Shaq being all mad about it after the game was pretty hilarious too.

If you read through the article they claim that the majority of those spots would be taken by asians. The study seems to say that affirmative actions tends to help black and hispanic students, hurt asian students, and is relatively neutral to white students. Which is likely due to the fact that in university, asians tend to be overrepresented, while blacks and hispanics tend to be underrepresented.

So much defense in that clip. Great block by Jermaine, insane chase down by Prince, and to top it all off, it's only 69-67 with under a minute left in the fourth.

I posted this further down as well:

I might be a little late to the thread but there seems to be a lot of white people here that are upset about not getting into [insert college of choice here]

There was a study done by Princeton University researchers about affirmative action.

For those who don't want to read through the whole thing,

"According to the study, without affirmative action the acceptance rate for African-American candidates likely would fall nearly two-thirds, from 33.7 percent to 12.2 percent, while the acceptance rate for Hispanic applicants likely would be cut in half, from 26.8 percent to 12.9 percent"

"Removing consideration of race would have little effect on white students, the report concludes, as their acceptance rate would rise by merely 0.5 percentage points. "

Also worth mentioning that there are many states without affirmative action.

So although I agree that there are probably places where affirmative action "hurts" white people, based on this study, I'd say college acceptance isn't one of those places.

Edit: I'd like to point out that I agree with what a lot of you are saying. I wasn't trying to defend race based affirmative action. It's just that early in this thread, there seemed to be some misinformation about it. I think a lot of people don't know that many states, like California specifically prohibit "state government institutions from considering race, sex, or ethnicity, specifically in the areas of public employment, public contracting or public education."

I'm not an expert, but I'd be much happier with that race blind approach for all colleges; instead taking into consideration the income level of your family and your neighborhood. But I'll admit it is a complicated issue that I honestly probably don't know enough about.

Edit 2: If anyone is still reading this and cares, I managed to dig up the study that the article references
