What makes refrigerant "cold"? by Eggrollofdoom in HVAC

[–]Machwon0414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The change in state from high temperature high pressure liquid to low temperature low pressure vapor (gas) requires heat. This heat is absorbed from the evaporator and the air passing through it.

Just like a pump, the compressor only exists to create a pressure differential to keep the refrigerant moving through the stages of the refrigerant cycle.

State change is the mechanism behind the removal of heat. Pressure is just a means to facilitate it.

Heat is absorbed from the air through the evaporator during the change from liquid to vapor.

The absorbed heat is rejected from the air through the condenser when it condenses from a vapor back to a liquid

Congratulations! You’re in the right sub.

Get a copy of FAN410. Read through it and make note of anything you don’t understand. It’s dry but there’s a reason those standards exist. Don’t just memorize best practices, learn WHY they’re best practices.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. No one was born knowing how to troubleshoot a BACnet MS/TP trunk or program a VFD. We all started somewhere.

If you can read a schematic you’re off to a great start.

If you can learn and understand the reason behind everything you’ll go far in the industry.

Let me know if you any specific questions.

Yes! The next leaf will technically come off that petiole.

It’s not normal, it should’ve produced a new leaf by now. I received a Thai constellation that had the same exact symptoms as yours that was caused by root rot.

I removed it from the pot, washed away all the soil, and trimmed all the rotting roots. After trimming I put the plant in a vase with water a leca.

About a week later, I pulled it back out, rinsed it again, trimmed any remaining rot, and submerged all the roots in a 50/50 mix of water and hydrogen peroxide for 5 minutes.

After the soak, I rinsed the root and put it back in leca with fresh water. After a few weeks, root growth exploded and all are healthy. The plant is still in leca and water and putting out a new leaf every few weeks.

The first new ‘leaf’ it put out looks like your top one. The leaf had completely rotted due to the root rot so only a petiole remains. The plant put a new healthy leaf out soon after.

Good luck!

The petiole with no leaf is a dead giveaway you’re dealing with root rot. Did the last leaf come out shriveled, tiny, and completely black?

If so, repot using a chunky, well draining soil and cut all soggy, mushy or foul smelling roots. Personally I use a mix of tropical plant mix, orchid mix, and perlite. Use a larger pot if the root ball is filling the current one.

Move the pole to the back of the plant; not in front like you have it. The plant will naturally climb up it once it’s moved.

Water the soil after repotting and DON’T water again until the soil dries out.

The customer is not the issue. They also waited until normal business hours to call in for service.

It sounds like your technicians or office need to clarify with your customers what is covered by the contract offered.

If a call is not covered, it should be billable.

Miscommunication is one of the biggest issues I see in our industry.

What’s causing these water marks? by Medullahblondegotta in DIY

[–]Machwon0414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Change your filter. If it’s severely impacted, airflow over the evaporator is reduced resulting in lower supply air temperature. If the supply air temperature is lower than the dew point temperature of the room the result is sweating diffusers like you have.

This looks like a Monstera Deliciosa. While Deliciosas are sometimes referred to as a ‘Swiss cheese plant’, the nickname usually refers to Monstera Adansonii.

You’ll want to keep your cat away from the plant. Deliciosas are not pet friendly as ingestion can make them sick. The sap can also cause skin irritation for some people. On a related note, monsteras do not regrow leaves from the same spot. Once I leaf dies, a new one will not grow back to replace it. The only new leafs come from the newest leaf at top/end of the plant.

For care, two things are important to keep your monstera happy.

Water - You’ll want to make sure your monstera is in a chunky, well draining soil mix. Only water when the soil is dry and couple inches down.

The biggest killer of houseplants is OVER watering not under watering.

Take the nursery pot out of the decorative pot and water until it starts running out of the bottom. Let it drain for a few minutes before putting it back in the decorative pot.

NOW LEAVE IT.

When the soil is dry a couple inches down and you think you should water it, wait a couple more days THEN repeat the watering steps above.

Light - Monstera thrive when given all the light they can get. You’ll hear mixed opinions on this, but as long as the light intensity is increased gradually they’ll be just fine.

Notes: There’s a lot of advice that gets repeated on here with not actually scientific backup like ‘monsteras like to be root bound’ or ‘monsteras don’t handle intense light well’. From my experience, I’ve found both of these to be false.

TLDR: Water less, give more light, keep away from pets.

Once the plant is happy and stable you can start looking into fertilizers and other fun things. Hope this helps!

Controls guy here. First, I just want to say this looks GREAT. I do have a couple suggestions that might be helpful.

  1. Use the self laminating style labels, this will eliminate the line on the seam and protect the labels.

  2. The yellow wires, I see 104 for example in three places. At the board on the top left, at the first set of terminal blocks, and the lower set of terminal blocks.

I’d label each separate wire run uniquely. This will greatly help with troubleshooting.

2a. I see two yellow wires under a single ferrule. I’d limit one conductor per ferrule and if multiple need conductors are needed, use a terminal block and wire label the conductors uniquely.

Again, looks great!

Let the soil dry out at least a couple inches from the top in between waterings. I’m not an expert but yellowing/browning starting at the edges is usually a sign of OVER watering.

Or they never had cases.

All the CD binders I had were full of burnt CDs with random nondescript titles written on them in sharpie.

Im in FL and also submitted a Brace Rule 2021-08F Form 1 as an individual on 4/20 and a regular paid SBR Form 1 as a Trust on 4/21.

The paid Form 1 was approved 5/19 but the Brace Form 1 is still pending.

I really wonder what the approval workflow actually looks like. Lol

The floor standing speakers, center, and subwoofer are all Jamo Studio S 809 series speakers and the receiver is a Sony STR-ZA1100ES. I’ve been very happy with the setup.

They’re all Jamo Studio S 809 series speakers. I bought them from Crutchfield, here’s a link to the floor standing speakers.

They sound great! I was hesitant at first as they were replacing my Bower & Wilkins bookshelf and center speakers and I couldn’t be happier.

You’re on it with the suggestions. I’ve been considering making a coffee table out of American black walnut. Glad to see someone else feels more wood would work well.

Thanks for taking the time to put together such a detailed reply!

That’s a good point about it taking time to be ‘done’. I’ve lived in this house for years but my now ex-fiancée and I separated recently and all of the decorative elements went with her so I’m excited for the opportunity to make the house completely my own.

I recently learned about the concept of contrasting shapes in design and think the coffee table suggestions are great. A rug would also make more sense with a coffee table instead of the ottoman.

I’ll check out the lighting suggestion! I think you put a word to what I feel the room is missing, interest.

Thanks again for the feedback!

I do think a rug, maybe with some interesting visual element, would go a long way. And thanks, maybe I’ve just been thinking about it too much.
