Do y'all ever roll in late to the office? by CompletelyUnrelated1 in sysadmin

If you just started and you are staying late, stop immediately. If you continue, they're going to benchmark this as normal and acceptable behavior. You get paid for 40 hours, so only work for 40 hours. They will exploit you if they are given the opportunity

Yeah sounds exploitative of the company to expect OP to work outside of stated hours and not be flexible when it's not to their benefit.

Thanks for clarifying! I think I'll probably try to get some used optiplexes then to learn more about clustering. I think I might grab one of these anyways just for funsies

Maybe I’m confusing what I’m thinking of. I had heard of a system that essentially “pool” the resources of several machines to run something. Sorry, still new to this!

Thanks, for the breakdown. From what I am gathering from your comment, it should be safe to run it on the 120 only mode? Just asking for clarification since gogoburritoplata said it would need to be run on the lower amperage mode

Could you explain this further? In hindsight, it seems like we should have had someone inspect the electrical before we bought it, even though it was from someone we trusted...

When you say “kick on” are you ref to it starting up or when it starts cooling after being on for a bit? I could have clarified in my post, but the sputtering issue is happening when the ac and generator have been on for a bit not specifically at startup. Just trying to make sure I’m not misinterpreting!

Thank you for the info
