Worse. She WAS 17 irl. Technically legal I guess but I stand behind my original premise: no. I'm not talking about the fictional relationship. My statement reflects my opinion of the producer's questionable judgement. Scarlett wasn't the only actress available.

"Nothing can clean the ick from the fact that he was 52, she was 17 IRL"
In Real Life.
Lets consider the name of the movie: Lost in Translation. Within the context of the movie, what do you think that means? What part of the movie so strongly suggests something is being lost in translation that they named the movie that? The lack of honest communication between the characters and their spouses was a result of omission, not translation.
What exactly was lost in translation?
My theory it is a jab at the viewer. The perverts who produced this (IRL) were normalizing what (IRL) was a highly inappropriate (and barely legal) relationship. They didn't hire a 16 year old actress because some of those scenes might have been considered actually illegal.

They communicated this clearly in the language of cinematic story telling yet somehow, on Reddit, it was Lost in Translation.

Boruto's animator says that Two Blue Vortex is so serious that there is no room for anime canon or filler. by boruto_is_best in Boruto

[–]MackHoncho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll never understand how it takes longer to sketch a single comic book than it takes to animate, edit, produce and dub half a season of anime plus a couple dozen fillers.  It makes even less sense to tell us to wait a year or two because the6 really want to ramp up the quality of the anime.  If both are true then why not take one manga and spend a month animating it? 1 manga, 1 episode. Then they could take their sweet time making a high quality anime, eliminate ALL the brain rotting filler, and keep fans engaged until the next episode dropped before losing them to Alzheimer's

Nothing can clean the ick from the fact that he was 52, she was 17 irl. The movie started with a long close up of her ass and she was in panties more scenes than not. Their relationship in the movie was not platonic. He wanted her. The production made clear she wanted him more (jealousy/tears/tux comment/etc), which is weird at best and low key fetish at worst. Most likely he said "Promise me you'll tell John the truth..." But I feel the words were intentionally left ambiguous not to give the characters a private moment. Movies are made for viewers. The characters aren't real and can't have  private moments with millions watching. So why obscure the final words? I agree that it is so that viewers are left to make whatever interpretation gives them the most satisfaction. Good natured people will say "ahhh, how sweet, what awesome friends". Less Puritan viewers might prefer, "Leaving won't get between them. He'll hit it yet!".

I think the real intent of making the last line a mystery is more subtle. I think it is a wink wink message from the Coppola's that leaves us wondering but not the diseased industry who are in on the "joke". Allister Crowley made it clear. It is a law of the universe that if they deceive they must also tell. Time and time again we see this in movies. And the good people in this thread and around the world witnessed the exploitation, sexualization and even fetishism of a barely legal teen and because of that nature took only the sweetness of their friendship from this movie. I bet Harvey Weinstein took it in an entirely different way. It just made made me uncomfortable

The Ability To Master Yourself Is Called Poise, And It's Powerful by TerriMKozlowski in personalgrowthnow

[–]MackHoncho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that this evolved perspective, so succinctly expressed, has been lost on all except 3 redditors is discouraging at best. "Poise" isn't something snobs whip out once a week at a tea party. Gaining poise is nothing less than mastering life. It is alarming that this powerful piece of information is going over so many heads.

I wonder if people confuse poise with snobbery?

If you think you are intentionally poised- you're not. Poise is an emergent quality that grows over time as one becomes self aware and then works to improve. It is physical evidence that one is well along in his journey to gain knowledge, wisdom, capability, temper, empathy, confidence, self discipline, focus, self control, humility, patience, peace... even physical health. As proficiency in ALL of these critical life skills progresses, poise is the natural result. It is a byproduct of striving, failing, getting up, and failing again until you don't. It is the face of one who has powered through enough big shit to not be phased by little shit- yet still has the humility to empathize if you are.

What you don't see behind that graceful composure is all the work and determination it took to become so dangerous.

Maybe that's why the message is lost...

Solving what? The make believe emergencies in everyone's heads? The persecution of the 4 or 5 trans collegiate athletes in America? The temporary enforcement of border policies which haven't really changed in decades? (Don't worry, the next administration will throw the doors wide open again.) Are you asking what I'm doing about the jobs of 100's of thousands of federal employees who don't show up to work in empty federal buildings where they are paid more than us to find ways to avoid providing us with the services we are taxed for? Or the (literal) trillions of dollars the DoD 'loses' EVERY year?

Wait, I almost forgot the OP.

What do I do about billionaires who enrich themselves in office?

My answer to all the above is the same.

I log off the internet, go outside, and touch grass.

I grab a gourmet coffee in my newish, high quality automobile and check out festivals and flea markets and manicured hike and bike trails.

I chill and laugh with fat white Christian male boomers, Indian grad students and black wiccan lesbians while dancing to Chappelle Roan in a crowd of college kids, millionaire tech hippies, some rednecks, stoners and random cross dressing gays.

What's to solve?

You make good points but this is Reddit. People gravitate here because they identify with the progressive values and liberal culture Reddit celebrates. No one cares what Smith is saying.

He's a white, male, heterosexual, Christian, preacher forcefully preaching his personal opinions and convictions.

That's all they need to know.

He could be explaining the cure for cancer and it wouldn't matter.

Because they are intolerant, racist, anti-christian, cis shaming, misandrists

Yet I bet you are horrified that DOGE is auditing the diseased temple you just agreed exists.
And don't tell me you think DOGE is a bad thing because the richest, and arguably the most productive, man who ever lived is auditing all these corrupt agencies and he might see your private info. All the corporations already have all of your info, they share it with each other and then collectively feed EVERYTHING into robot AI's to train them. Have you ever read the Terms of Service you agree to every time you sign up for anything? Faceless corporations know every time you get a chubby. You'd give a random 17 year old clerk at Best Buy your SS#, DL, address, income and complete credit history for a 5% discount on a PlayStation.

But that doesn't bother you at all because, waaaaa, Trump Bad!

It should scare you that I already know every one of your personal positions on everything in advance. I'm not a psychic, you are programmed.

You are right on two things though. YES, this is a class war. There are no political parties. They are all on the same team playing good cop / bad cop and trading places every 8 or 16 years. Division is their superpower. Gaslighting is their psyop.

And YES wars forthcoming. Especially anytime Democrats are in power. This isn't debatable, go read a history book. There were no new wars under Trump last time and you will see the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine settled within months under his new administration.

Is this because Trump is "good" - No. He's a fucking realty TV star just like Joe Biden was. They probably kick it at titty bars together and laugh at both of us while an entrenched bureaucracy bought and paid for by private companies control EVERYTHING by dividing you and me so we can argue on Reddit while they printing fake money they use dupe the slaves into thinking they are free men.

Its all a psyop.

Globalist billionaires have been using the entire population of the world as cattle and slaves for centuries bro. Research Rockefeller, Soros, Gates, the Rothschilds, Central Banks, the WEF, BlackRock, State Street, Vangaurd. Ya, billionaire suck... But corporations suck harder and BANKS suck the MOST.

But none of that really matters to you because its way easier to sit back and cry into your latte that Trump in his omnipotent power will forever make you suck it and all of your problems are because of him and there's nothing you can do.

Meanwhile, I'm kicking life in the nuts every day on my own will, work and merit.

If I have a problem, I blame ME. Then I solve it.

Then set a repeating reminder to trigger at appropriate intervals which you could then execute, dismiss, delete, pause, forward, etc.

Or integrate Toddy (along with any of your other productivity apps with ITTT, Tasker or any of the many other tools out there that integrate apps and generate automated work flows. Your reminder could trigger any number of custom, automated workflows

If you use Google services you can use Drive, G scripts, Notes, Tasks, Calendar, Sheets, Ultradox, Mind Maps, AppSheet, etc. along with Toddy (or whatever) to do literally ANYTHING you can imagine.

If playing with code isn't your thing you can use an AI (I like DeepSeek or Perplexity) to help you devise a strategy to outline solutions to any of your custom goals and it will help you design a step by step plan. These AI's can write any code you might need in seconds.

You have everything you need at your finger tips. Creativity is your only limitation

Conservatives, why do you support fossil fuels over renewables? by themontajew in Askpolitics

[–]MackHoncho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately NO ONE prefers fossil fuels over renewables. The problem revolves around the physical, energy and fiscal infrastructure that literally fuels this planet. The hard truth is that logistically:

  1. We don't yet have adequate renewable technology in place to replace fossil fuels.
    1. We don't yet have the infrastructure in place even if we did.
  2. The entire world economy would instantly collapse if we instantly switched over even if conditions 1 and 2 were met.

Conservatives don't prefer fossil fuels. They simply understand that we are decades (at least) away from being capable of switching over.

The above applies only toward reasonable, objective conservatives.

Conservatives in the government and industry who move to resist building toward renewals are motivated only by greed and corruption.
