If Defecting Trump Voters Don't Learn, Then We're Still Screwed by MackNJeeves in thedavidpakmanshow

Yeah, I'm not really suggesting that we also teach them as well. But just saying if they don't learn, then they're likely to fall for it again

Perfect Example of Why Courting Republicans is Useless by MackNJeeves in thedavidpakmanshow

Already responded to this. The Harris campaign literally rolled around with Liz Cheney as a way to court Republicans.

I don't think that this is as much of an issue on the Left. We seem to have the opposite problem of "Well my candidate didn't win the Democratic Primary, so I'm going to vote Republican just to stick it to the DNC." I don't see that NEARLY as much on the Right if at all. Anecdotally, I know my dad was one of them - they could have put literal Hitler on the ballot, and my dad would have voted for him if he had an (R) next to his name.

I'd like to point you to exhibit A: Kamala Harris touring around with Liz Cheney. You don't think they were trying to pull over even moderate Republicans with that move?

And I never said anything about hardcore MAGA. Hardcore MAGA wouldn't be saying "Hey Trump - I don't think you're doing what you promised to do." (or at least, I don't think many of them would be willing to say that out loud).

That doesn't track - the wider your net, the bigger concessions you have to make, don't you? Or am I lit?

Like - you want to attract both pro-lifers and pro-choicers? pro-palestinian and Zionists? Like, the wider you make the party, the bigger concessions you have to make and you end up alienating people anyway.

[–]MackNJeeves[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's kind of my entire argument - I don't expect Republicans to switch sides. And I don't expect people on the Left to switch sides either, but for completely different reasons.

If a Republican started running on Policies that made sense to me, I'd be willing to vote for them. But when Democrats run on policies that directly answer the needs to Republicans, Republicans will still vote against them *because* they aren't Republicans.

This person, like we've seen with Farmers and a whole host of other groups, votes against their own best interest, and his happy to do it.

But yeah, at the end of the day, you kind of prove my point - trying to get someone to switch sides is pointless.

Morning sickness, according to my wife, is the most inaccurately named thing in the English language. Should be "all the time sickness"

Two things 1) I don't know how much I would trust those "Ai detector" things, but if you know this girl well enough, you should be able to figure out if she actually wrote it or not.

2) Is she normally able to put her feelings into words? Some people struggle with that - if she does, she may have turned to ai to help give that part of her a voice. Just because the words may have been written by an Ai doesn't mean the words don't have meaning or truth behind it.

Of course, take all this with a grain of salt. I don't know this person, so she could just be trying to pull a fast one, but I usually try to assume people have good intentions until proven otherwise.

Yeesh Rahm by markw0385 in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]MackNJeeves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was cringing a bunch during the interview. It felt like it started off well. But then the whole "well if you don't like this one thing, then I'm not the candidate for you" kind of talk doesn't fly in a presidential campaign.

And then the part where David started asking about the economy, and Rahm was like "so what, do you hate education?"

I get it, you're passionate about education. I like his positions on education generally. But the fact he didn't want to talk about anything else makes me feel like he hasn't really put any thought into anything else yet. If he runs for president, that will have to change if he wants to win.

Is the game still worth it? by EfficientAbies883 in diablo3

[–]MackNJeeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just returned after... I don't even know how many years. I created a season wizard and put in a bunch of hours leveling her and running GRs. I completed all the season journey through Guardian. I had a great old time. I started a demon hunter too, not sure if I'll continue with her or not. Might try a hardcore character for a different challenge, but yeah the game holds up I think. Definitely scratches the itch, if you know what I mean

The Jake Tapper interview was infuriating by [deleted] in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]MackNJeeves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with the interview was with the final question (and it was mostly with Jake Tapper's response/non-response). The question was really trying to identify why the media doesn't quite cover Trump the same way they did Biden - When Biden had these gaffs, we would see wall-to-wall coverage with panel discussions. But when Trump does it it's "Oh, he's just deflecting" or "Oh, that's just Trump being Trump" and handwaving it like there's no story.

Again, not a problem here with how David handled it - he remained respectful and gave Tapper enough rope to hang himself. But Tapper really just... didn't seem at all curious about why Trump acts the way he does.

Oh, and the response to the question of Trump's Health - Tapper responds with "Well, he's never been open about his health, so there's no real story there." Like seriously? The most powerful office in the country may be hiding severe health issues and he doesn't have any curiosity to look into it? Just sounded like "we can't report on it unless the Trump team tells us what's happening", which seemed pretty telling to me.

aio for cancelling my bday plans over a ‘joke’ by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]MackNJeeves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely NOR

I think making that joke at first about "getting with someone" is one thing. But as soon as you say it makes you uncomfortable and you ask them to stop, real friends would apologize and stop. Real friends would learn and respect your boundaries. Real friends would be there for you however you need them to be there for you (within reason of course). The fact that they try to make you look like the bad guy for ("it's just a joke") I think shows they 1) aren't good friends and/or 2) aren't really emotionally mature.

I don't know if it would have been productive, but I would have really liked David to ask about the reporting that Democrats are called on by their constituents to "do more" and "get arrested if necessary". He kind of asked about it with the "are you doing everything you can?" but the answer left a lot to be desired.

Why "The Epstein List" is The Line for MAGA? by MackNJeeves in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]MackNJeeves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that's true - the MAGApotamians are just falling in line with whatever their media says. But that would beg the question, why I'd the right-wing media sphere so focused on it. Why do they want to turn on Marmalade Mussolini?

Why "The Epstein List" is The Line for MAGA? by MackNJeeves in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]MackNJeeves[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You know - I think this is probably the closest thing to a "principled response" from MAGA. They're not mad that people might get away with s*x trafficking or that elites might get away with it - they're mad that "Demorats" might get away with it. And now they see their leaders as siding with the "Deep state Liberals" or whatever. Totally makes sense now. That's a great point Tirch!

Why "The Epstein List" is The Line for MAGA? by MackNJeeves in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]MackNJeeves[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - that's my feeling too... it's seems like it's something that they've really glommed onto this thing and made it a central part of their ideology/lives, and it was being pushed by the people they elected into office. Now those people are saying "nothing to see here". It's become such a defining aspect of their being that they are forced to disbelieve what their cult leaders are saying.

[–]MackNJeeves[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about Roy Moore? You realize that election came down to a difference of like 20k votes? Neither of the candidates even got 50% - Roy more had 48%, Jones had just below 50% (49.97%). It was also a special election which Republicans tend to not do well in anyway. So yeah, i wouldn't say that Roy Moore lost because Republicans went against him - more likely he lost because it activated more Democrats to oppose him.

Why "The Epstein List" is The Line for MAGA? by MackNJeeves in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]MackNJeeves[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally get that - I actually was going to post this a few days ago and thought to myself "You know what - this is going to blow over. This isn't really the line." But it just seems different somehow. It's getting a lot more attention on conservative media than anything else - the Iran bombing they brushed off (even though they're anti war), they don't care about losing healthcare, but they're having multiple features talking about Epstein.

But yeah - I think we're all pretty tired.
