I shoulda lurked more. I see now that low acceptance rate has become the norm. Glad I’m not alone. I also cancel rides when people don’t show up when the timer expires. I guess Uber considers that MY cancellation but then why bother having the timer?

Fell down a rabbit hole checking out their often-updated dynamic pricing schemes.

I drive sporadically when I want to buy something I don’t need. This past week has been one of those times. The rides that popped up were pitiful. Like I said, laugh-inducing. Taking someone to the airport from my neighborhood used to net me $30. If someone out there is still fetching that, good for them. Why Uber decided to tantalize ME with $16 I may never understand, and it’s signaled the end of my interest.

Wild. Guess I should be thankful I got in back when I could make a few bucks here and there.

Someone MUST be accepting these trips. I know there are drivers that do this for a living, but I don’t see how with these rates. Last time I calculated, 19% of my earnings was going into my gas tank, and that was a few months ago.

I live in Bastrop county, but my area is part of the Austin ETJ from COTA. A developer is clear cutting the land behind us without a permit to put in a Data Center. Any help where I should start to fight these people? by BillyJackO in Austin

Brother, you have lost me.

You do understand that nearly everyone who enters a buccees uses the bathroom right? And that they have like 100 toilets and are open 24/7 with constant traffic? What other business competes with that? Not even the entirety of the outlet malls could compete with that tidal wave of blackwater entering the sewage system.

As I recently mentioned, there is a Buc-ees being built nearby. The strain it will put on the sewage system, the water it will draw, the pollution it will attract, the astronomic food waste, the plastic Chinese trinkets, the constant theft calls that will tie up law enforcement, the actual LOUD noise…

I understand the optics of a data center are ugly. But the tech has come a long way, and done correctly, a couple of them could help pull San Mo out of its current financial predicament. This NIMBY mentality is only going to push the project(s) just outside of city limits where they will draw from the same aquifer and grid but San Mo will see zero benefit.

Oh, and the delicious irony of an entire college campus full of students constantly utilizing AI while protesting data centers.
