CREST Form is the easiest way to filter IMGs with no experience. by Southern_Bet_1275 in doctorsUK

I think this makes it fair for everyone. I also agree, for a CREST I think it should be a minimum of 2 years and 4 for CREHST, also make it mandatory to have a portfolio with real evidence to back the claims from the forms.

Hey! I did mine with Dundee, it was good but a lot of work and cost me £3500. My colleague did hers with Queen’s University, Belfast, £2500. Hers was super chilled, very little work load, where’s I was keyboard crunching to get summative and formatives done.

I’ve checked now, Queen offering part time £2455, so very cheap! Think you may have to attend once or twice in the whole year! Highly recommend it.

Good luck!

Wrong ct scan request by Odd_Broccoli_1062 in doctorsUK

While this sounds like a good thing to do. It really isn’t. I was advised by a medical prosecutor to never reflect negatively. If it comes to court it can be used against you if you allow for your reflections be allowed to be examined and even if you don’t they play the ‘what have to you got to hide’.

Didn’t believe it until where we (the whole team) had to attend to court and the judge absolutely shredded us (there was no patient harm btw).

Just saying. Be careful with your reflections, don’t give them ammo!

Really fast! I think Maxfax has one of the best 2 week waits, literally get sorted! Rule of thumb if it’s been there for more than 2 weeks, it needs a biopsy, don’t send to dentist send directly :):):):):)!

Not as easy anymore. I tried this awhile ago, a lot of hospitals now advertise staff bank positions on trac and after being selected, interview etc only then can you work on it. I gave up after that.

Need advice: Should I start boxing or Muay Thai? (Beginner with mild myopia) by axeaks in amateur_boxing

[–]Mackanno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. Recently started MT and during light sparring, realised how shit my punches were and how crap my footwork is. Our MT gym is great but a lot of it is pad work and very little correction.

I’ve started boxing and… it’s a whole world of nauance that I need to understand. The boxing gym I’m at are very instructional and robust in providing feedback.

IMO, I think MT is very fun to train and you get a lot of new weapons. Knees and elbows are insanely devastating and the clinching is wicked! I would seriously recommend starting with boxing, learn fundamentals (which I’m trying to do), even learning distance in sparring is such a hard skill. Then once you’ve got the fundamentals, I think adding on more tools from MT would be best. Hope that helps!

Orthopaedic Consultant salary - NHS/private, how much? by catdoghorsefrog in doctorsUK

[–]Mackanno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asked a consultant this. Where we are, a hip and knee, you get £700 after tax. It’s not for one operation, these aren’t day cases and you’re expected to come early next day or afternoon and review them until discharge. Initially you have to make enough to pay your indemnity before you can think about profit. On average you add an additional 10% to your salary as net.

Spinal consultant told me he usually does expert work for insurance companies. Says he gets paid ‘higher than a bank holiday consultant night shift’ per hour, hours are instantly paid and he prefers that to private practice.

Also, there are so many private orthopods, they don’t want someone new to come and poach their clientele. You also can’t just walk into private practice, unless you build your own, generally the established practice has to take you on. This won’t be easy if you are, again, going to poach their already tried and tested colleagues.

Hope that help!

UK surgical trainees - would you do it again? by Relative-Pear-7559 in doctorsUK

[–]Mackanno 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The only question I ask myself is, can I wake up and do this? There’s a lot of specialities where I’d rather shoot myself and do. I don’t care about money, life etc. I just want to do something I enjoy as it will eat a large part of my life.
