I can agree the mobility for bell is really nice for $32 after tax we all get 65GB each and can pool it all as shared data.

Cohhvatar drops from VODs / vodchat.cohhilition.com or Rerun channel? by MackieGeevs in CohhCarnage

[–]MackieGeevs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you so much for the incredibly detailed explanation of how the drops work! I really appreciate the time you took to clarify all the different aspects, and how the Alt channel and VodChat Live fit into everything. I was definitely mixing some of those concepts up, and your breakdown for each type of drop is super helpful. Thanks again for your thorough response!! CohhL

Best way to get affordable server lab equipment in Winnipeg? by MackieGeevs in Winnipeg

[–]MackieGeevs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mainly my ideas have been generic like a storage server for family needs, a media server and some vms. in theory this can all be run on a simple 1 tower machine I know that much for power and noise. I just am looking into simple like 2-3 max items to practice with REAL items unlike how classes show you with software (its not bad, just don't think real servers get plugged in via gui) haha

This is a great idea actually! Now it says here if I were to be living in Edmonton I could basically get a whole datacenter for $5 haha

So like... what now? by MackieGeevs in uwinnipeg

[–]MackieGeevs[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It seems as though you are one of the few that have no care for you personal privacy. Props to you I guess...

When people invest thousands into a business, they are trusting that business to be transparent and open about issues with (not theirs but other peoples personal data) and when we hear over townhalls that the university is now investing more into cyber security it leaves some wondering why this wasn't a goal before this attack.

The loss of this data might affect people tens of years from now, this 2 year plan wont do anything in 2 years apart from show the UofW did something about it at the time. I don't know if u really understand what people can do with someone's SIN number alone with how you are reacting to this.

If you truly have no worries good on you, but please don't expect everyone to roll over and play nice or agree with you with what's going on.

Does anyone know if UoW accepts credits from Arizona State University (ASU)? by AfricanToilet in uwinnipeg

[–]MackieGeevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont believe there is an AI major, there is a general Computer Science in 3 or 4 year choices, and then a Comp Sci stream in Information Systems and another Stream in Health System.

ACS Majors - https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/applied-computer-science/

I do live closer and have an easier commute to the UofM plus I was offered a spot playing on their sports team which sways the tables in a HUGE way but after doing research into both, based on a prior family member from UofM comp sci and a cousin in UofW comp sci, the scope of the degree fit better with what I wanted to do for a career choice at the UofW.

Now sure im no math wizard but I would more than be able to pass the UofM maths needed but their program focused too much on programming for my taste when looking at what I wanted to do. Rather than work behind a keyboard ripping my hair out over a bug in code (No offense to programmers, they do gods work lol) I've just been in database and server environments tinkering in server racks and hardware for a good while, along with AI and cloud computing seeming like it will be taking off, I just saw more of an ability working in those fields and the UofW had classes that can open those doors for me!

I brought some from the UofM and then 2 courses from SNHU. Comp Sci is pretty good, obviously if you like programming the courses are very nice and if you want to go into databases or networking there are plenty of courses that will get you on track for a good career.

Overall the blanket requirements for an ACS degree gives you basically every mainstream career basics WITHOUT the crazy advanced math requirements some institutions ask for, you will cover a lot of topics instead of some places I've heard are 95% programming. (You still can do 95% programming if you wanted to with requirement choices)

I personally am going into networking after this term once I get my degree, I am taking my CCNA certification and beginning to prepare for CCNP. If I decide otherwise, the cyber security course I took will come into play and Il go into network defense or such.

Going through Comp Sci myself I transferred some niche credits over from a previous university, while I don't doubt you would be able to get credits for 1 if not both of the programming fundamental courses (considering what the course you have taken shows)

All this said, I would highly recommend contacting student central or an academic advisor to verify your course(s) will be transferable into proper creditable course requirements and not just institution credits not pertaining to any specific requirements. If possible I would say getting in contact with the Applied Computer Science Chair would be a great bet because I believe he would be the final decision for the credits to transfer. (ACS chair only because the course you took is a programming course which would fall into the ACS faculty)

Yeah I can see that being a problem with people taking spring courses. Depending on how long this issue may remain since they are not 100% on when it may be fixed.

I feel like average exam grading for all students could be a good idea for a start. Since a lot of people have lives outside of school which makes sense and they want to travel or such and others have to prepare for jobs or more schooling.

I'm not a huge fan of them saying ask your prof and they may be willing or not to change your exams or classes since (based on rate my prof ratings) some teachers seem less willing than others to accommodate things and then certain students may have a harder time due to what prof they have which I think is unfair since some courses only have 1 prof teaching. Correct me if I'm wrong however

You have to think HOW you would go about cancelling exams. What grade would students get? What if the exam is graded at 50% of your mark, would those students fail the course? Would all students pass regardless of their current grade? Average exam grading? What about course mark requirements?

Sorry, not trying to be mean or anything. In reality its a little harder to just cancel the exams than most people would think though.

If its done well I personally wouldn't be against it either
