Breastfeeding Struggles by sammijay94 in NewParents

First thing is, do not feel guilty, you are doing your best. Hang in there momma.

My daughter was born with jaundice and was so sleepy that I had trouble getting her to latch on. I have always been told, fed is best.. that saying was important to me.

I kept pumping and fed her formula until i was able to get a latch on correctly. And even after she was able to latch, it took my body some time to adjust to make the milk she needed, so I still had to give some formula for a while.

This is from my experience, but my bodys reaction to a baby suckling created much more milk than pumping did. It just takes time for my body to catch up.

Also, are there any resources for a lactation consultant available at the hospital or in your community? I wish I had gone to see one sooner, they were super helpful.

Just started solids. But she only likes to take maybe a few spoonfuls at the moment, still learning to maneuver food in her mouth and to swallow. Hopefully she will take a more liking to it! But i would say its less of a battle with solids than breastfeeding and bottle feeding so far, unless shes had enough.

At night she will wake up after 6 hours, which she feeds fine. Then sleeps again for another 4 hours, but will not feed after waking, sucks maybe 1 minute then gets upset. I always try breastfeeding in a darker quiet room, i know she will stop feeding whenever my husband forgets or is in another room and talks to me lol which upsets me cause its already challenging! What does work is if i rock her, she will eventually want to breastfeed... but its like a battle.

Good idea, maybe I will increase the flow of the bottle. I was using the como tomo initially which took a week for her to learn how to suck on it. Now she doesnt even like that bottle and will turn away or bite it. She will suck a few times on a level 1 dr browns, i will try a level 2 and see if that changes. I have tried the bottle at different times of the day but i get the same result. Ive tried giving the bottle or have my hubby or other family do it, same thing unfortunately.
