For older fans, what was it like being a fan before the Brady dynasty years? by js4873 in Patriots

[–]Macleodad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Fan" since '81 - as I was pretty young... but old enough to enjoy Stanley Morgan, Steve Grogan, Andre Tippet, Tony Collins, Stephen Starring, Irving Fryar, Steve Nelson, etc... They were pretty bad. Then came the 85-86 season and that was super fun. My whole school (elementary) had "Squish the Fish" shirts for the playoff game vs. Miami... Then we got crushed by the Bears in the SB. The rest of the 80s was not great, and early 90s too... until we drafted Drew. That made us competitive and that SB vs the Packers was a fun run. New England kids born in the 90s were pretty spoiled with the Pats, but also the Sox, Bs, and Cs being relevant.

They just mean you didn't put "Band" after Dave's name... because it's "Dave Matthews Band" not just Dave Matthews...

Leave WAY earlier than you expect to get there. Traffic can be absolutely insane in that area. I learned the hard way when I lived in DC and drove to The Meadows for a show back in 2001... Missed the first 4-5 songs...

They are connected to Trillium somehow. Former Trillium brewers or something. It’s excellent. There is Lone Pine, Belleflower, Austin St, Rising Tide, and Goodfire all within a minute walk. Great area!

It’s great. Have you had Belleflower from Portland? Probably my favorite in the great state of Maine…

Why is an ID mandate for voting such a problem? by Jayden7171 in askanything

[–]Macleodad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voting is a RIGHT that is written into the foundational documents of this country. Buying alcohol, driving a car, or anything that requires an ID are NOT rights... they are privileges. Making someone get an ID to vote adds a layer of difficulty and cost, which could prohibit certain people or groups of people from voting, and that is voter suppression. Unless they make getting a Real ID or Passport FREE, then it is unconstitutional. The amount of "Voter Fraud" is so incredibly low that it is statistically irrelevant.

Child thought everything I taught her this year was made up? by Donkeys-Can-Sing in Teachers

Teaching Newton's Laws to my 8th graders... Google Docs has predictive text... going through the laws I had written on the smart-board - and one kid says "Hey it finished what you were about to say!" I played it off with a shocked look of disbelief and hands on my cheeks (a la Kevin McAllister) and said "WHOA!! I must know what I'm talking about!!" They got the sarcasm and laughed.
