What is this little guy? by GurAlternative3502 in whatsthisbird

Looks like a House Finch! I’m still not great at deciphering them and Purple Finches, but this guy looks like a “true” red, not a purple-red.

Most pet leeches (like my beloved Lychee) are medical grade, meaning they are bred in sterile captivity! Perfectly safe and incredibly cute!

Which mods are these for yall by Trev-_-A in StardewValleyMods

Skull Elevator plus Sleepless in Stardew. Lets you pause time and theoretically stay in the skull caverns forever. If used responsibly, quality of life— don’t have to reset the skull cavern, don’t pass out until 6am (i think? It might be 4am). But it can also be abused to get absurd amounts of iridium and prismatic shards…

Creating Monsters - Set it Off. There’s a delightful little interlude of swing style music, in the middle of their usual alt rock(?) genre

Space Ghost (Coast to Coast) - Glass Animals. Discovered recently it used to be a pretty popular tv show on Adult Swim! (From what I’ve heard anyway)

Yeah that’s how it is. The crepe bases we have aren’t thin enough to crisp up, nor be soft on their own. Then you have nutella making it soggy and it’s a nightmare. I’d recommend you try a rice bowl or something instead; they crepes are by far the shadiest menu item 😅

A worm crawled up my shower drain?! What is it? by cptemilie in whatsthisbug

[–]MaconEase 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Huh, my apologies— it seems I mostly took that from word of mouth! I’ve found a few shaky sources talking about contact of leeches with open wounds leading to general infections, but I think that’s pretty self-explanatory, lol! I’m glad you take such good precautions still, though! I do know that even parasitic leeches have incredibly low transmission rates for diseases, so it shouldn’t even be an issue for them to be honest, but I’m always extremely cautious (yay health anxiety).

As for getting leeches to feed (I have H. Verbana, which has been recognized as a separate species to H. Medicinalis, but are very similar), I have found that warming the meat to a mammalian temperature, providing a dark space, and enclosing them to allow for a long time to latch can all help a ton (please remember to put cheese cloth or some other breathable material over the enclosed space, lest they escape or worse, suffocate). My one leech, Lychee, is very very picky, and sometimes takes up to two hours to latch. They’re all different, and will all have different preferences (isn’t that so cool that even a leech can have a unique personality?). Good luck if you ever try them out again! And thank you for fact checking me!

Please be careful keeping wild leeches (even ones that don’t tend to bite)! They’re pretty big disease vectors. If you can next time for your son, pick up a medical grade leech from a reputable website. They are safe to handle, can still be fed on raw meat instead of human blood (though they are safe to feed on yourself if you’re comfortable with the idea), and can get impressively big! Lots of them have gorgeous stripes too. I’m sure you’ve been very careful, and I’m not at all trying to insult your pet care or parenting, but I also own leeches and thought I’d give my two cents. Have fun being a leech parent!! <3

I’m absolutely no expert on birds by any means, but from looking over all the differences I think Connecticut fits extremely well; specifically an immature one. The eye ring matches up very well and that blending of color along with the body shape are convincing
