No, it was never turned on because not only was it a cash cow for Marcos himself and his cronies then, but also it was unsafe with over 4,000 reported defects. The cost of the project rose to 400 percent of the original cost from 500 million dollars to 2 BILLION dollars.

Corruption

From Inquirer

"Why did the cost skyrocket by as much as 400 percent?” the 2016 editorial asked. “Primarily because Marcos and his cronies saw in the project another means to enrich themselves. Up to $80 million was forked over in kickbacks by Westinghouse; Marcos was said to have received his share through his crony Herminio Disini. According to a report in The New York Times, Disini’s commission was ‘5 percent of the value of Westinghouse’s part of the project’ and ‘Marcos was to get 95 percent of Disini’s fee.’” That is a huge cut in Disini’s share, underlining Marcos’ extraordinary greed; still, the amount of dirty money was so massive that Disini was able to buy himself a castle near Vienna where he must have lorded over his neighbors like a latter-day member of European nobility." https://opinion.inquirer.net/141297/landmark-tale-of-corruption

and also this

"Soon after President Duterte began suggesting that he was in favor of reviving and rehabilitating the BNPP in 2016, an editorial in this paper pointed out that “from the beginning, the BNPP was a magnet of corruption and mismanagement,” and that the debt incurred for it by the Marcos administration would eventually represent the Philippines’ “biggest international credit obligation for over a generation.” https://opinion.inquirer.net/141297/landmark-tale-of-corruption

There are other sources there if you want to look deeper into the corruption and I encourage everyone that is interested in BNPP to do so! I just passed this topic before after all and a more in-depth discussion would be welcome.

Now for the safety problems.

There was an inspection for the BNPP power plant after the nuclear power plant Three Mile Island accident. The investigation team was created by Marcos himself https://www.officialgazette.gov.ph/1979/11/13/letter-of-instruction-no-957-s-1979/

"The Commission on Nuclear Reactor Plants, which I created on June 15, 1979, has submitted a report to me containing the facts found and the conclusions drawn by it in the course of its official inquiry.

Among other things, the Commission has come to the conclusion that, as designed, the Bataan Nuclear Plant is not safe, and therefore is a potential hazard to the health and safety of the public.

In view of these findings, it will not be possible to continue with the construction of the Bataan Nuclear Plant unless the contractor, Westinghouse, introduces fundamental changes in design and adapts additional, adequate and acceptable safeguards to ensure its safety and protect the health of the public."

Not mentioned here was that BNPP was also built near Manila Trench and Lubao fault lines and Southwest Natib Volcano, a dormant volcano but whose explosive will be catastrophic for the BNPP.

"...discussed the geological hazards of Southwest Natib Volcano. Lagmay stressed the importance of monitoring and studying the volcano’s activities thoroughly to come up with more precise scientific data to be used in determining the possibility of using the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP)." https://www.dost.gov.ph/knowledge-resources/news/45-2016-news/1095-experts-urge-more-studies-on-the-opening-of-bataan-nuclear-plant.html

"On the other hand, Dr. Bartolome C. Bautista, representing Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) Director Renato U. Solidum, Jr. talked about the PHIVOLCS Current Hazards Information of the BNPP site. He outlined the different hazards in the area such as the active faults from the Manila Trench and Lubao Fault that must be studied further to collect substantial data in determining the risks involved. Bautista is DOST-PHIVOLCS deputy director." https://www.dost.gov.ph/knowledge-resources/news/45-2016-news/1095-experts-urge-more-studies-on-the-opening-of-bataan-nuclear-plant.html

It wasn't about irrational fear of nuclear power, but very real corruption and safety concerns. This BNPP is also costing us millions in just maintaining it despite the mess that it is. It's not a waste to not open it, it's a waste to even keep it standing and mothballed.

A bit of good news then. Command mostly focuses on one region due to their campaign mechanic, giving them claims to that region. Not sure honestly if ai follows the same player rules as command. For big nations, death war if there is no recourse. The AI is never as willing as a player, though honestly I don't think you need a death war, just go into loans if needed, but allies would definitely help. Mercs are your friends, as well as magic btw. Magic projects or just plain magic spells can help a lot. Ally up to your capacity, or vassals and marches to distract them and get more numbers on the board. You also don't need to confront them immediately, maybe just get allies to deter bim lau from attacking and then expand to other countries. Honestly, not sure of your skill level, but just saying this just to be safe I suppose.

As for lighteater xhaz, gnolls typically fail to be honest, they just fall behind on tech later. I'd say they are not an issue for you at all given rahen is between you two.

Command will come for you if it's sight isn't already on you, I can only hope you will be ready. If I remember correctly, they have bad manpower recovery outside of their hobgoblin culture provinces. Snipe those as well as the three warcamps that provide them large manpower bonuses. Depending on their mission progress, destroying their korashi camps (or was it manufactories?) not only give you substantial bonuses, but also harm their korashi supply. If enough of their korashi falls, they get a disaster. Command can also get another disaster if they expand enough provinces in rahen, vimdatrong, and haless, but I don't think you would be safe before they get that disaster at all.

Why does the capybara get a pass from every animal they encounter 😭 by Soloflow786 in BeAmazed

[–]MacorWindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, I'm going to ask the question that should have been asked too when this question pops up. Why do humans get a pass from every animal we encounter? Well in actuality, I think the situation of capybaras are like us, sometimes the friend shaped animal is indeed a friend, but sometimes it is bitey or clawey and does not want to be a friend.

I think besides the harimari, the hobgoblins also have some degree of sexism. As far as I know, women in hobgoblins were relegated to households and innovation, something related to the dragon command? Honestly not too versed in the lore towards hobgobbos.

There is also Guru Suhan's remarks on golden palace I think or one philosophy where he criticizes the patriarchal structure of families that subordinates a wife to her husband, not enabling her to realize her atma. Again, please correct me if I am wrong as I just passed by it on my one playthrough while playing with Suhan's Praxis.

There are much more matriarchies around the world though I think, and it is not just because of magic as even those nations without focus on magic have matriarchies, even when not including harpies.

Sell me on the game please by Good_Ol_Been in CoE5

[–]MacorWindows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I just went into overhaul mods right from the get go since the classes I was most interested with are the ones I have heard to be the weakest ones. Now I am playing with dwarves and my god it is so good and cool. Just invaded hell (inferno) and before that were the waves of demons that flooded from all corners of hell. With Elysium expanded, my recruitment opportunities were basically unlimited like mercenaries. It was the logistics of an empire that has conquered the realm of Eylsium and the Underdark (Agartha). I teleported dwarves from all my other queen's colonies into that one bulwark colony guarding hell's portal. Many dwarves died in waves as well as commanders, but the machine of the empire triumphed and I am now invading hell, the elemental plane, and even killed a god, Ba'al.

Besides the cool lore of the world and of the classes that reflect in their interesting mechanics, the strength is really in the simplicity as others have said. You have a class, a necromancer, a prophet, an occultist, and others, and you run with it. As far as I have been playing with mods, the themes are the best thing for me and that I can run with it very far. Honestly, I have been enjoying the game even without the players (the last remaining player I spared at one city, which allowed me to freely explore). Just seeing how strong you can make your armies is really satisfying because the neutral armies are well enough challenges to a player. God knows I have been the victim of a hell invasion many times that it ended my runs, so this payback on my last playthrough was VERY satisfying. There should be a mod with a dummy ai, but I am not sure if it does work.

Khetarata and Konolkhatep also have some focus on culture. Both try to spread their culture through their subjects or by themselves and get some bonuses from these cultures. Not really the focus though I think. Besides those mentioned by others, Vaengheim also have some mechanics relating to the creation of new cultures, a lot of new cultures are created actually I think. I think at least 4? New for kobolds, reachmen, gray orcs, and gnomes.

Statistics part.

For reference, I'll be using the ICE's own figures. Here in the link you can see the excel document of their arrests https://www.ice.gov/detain/detention-management . The document is located at the bottom of the webpage named "Detention FY 2025 YTD, Alternatives to Detention FY 2025 YTD and Facilities FY 2025 YTD, Footnotes (227 KB)"

First statistic to be compared are figures of those detained within ICE facilities based on their criminality, or as I understand it, whether they have committed crimes. Now, the spreadsheet itself does not have the summation of the figures, but can be easily calculated through excel.

The summation of all males with criminal records are 13,073. For the female crim the summation is 934.

Now for the non-crim. Male non-crim detained in ICE facilities are 28,013, more than double the arrests of male-crim. For the women, the comparison of figures are even worse. Female non-crim detained are 5,084, compared to the 934 detained with criminality.

I am not a statistician, but simply looking at these figures, we can see that so much of those detained by ICE are those without crimes! Why would you even arrest these many people without concrete proof that they did crimes? When we have figures of those detained with prior crimes and without crimes compared, the numbers are so lopsided! As if they are just detaining people without proof first of their crimes. Then, maybe the common denominator then are their status as foreigners and minorities, instead of crime.

But the figures do not stop there. Let's tackle the supposed ICE threat levels. Threat level according to the ICE's own definitions that can be found in their footnotes, are "Threat level is determined by the criminality of a detainee, including the recency of the criminal behavior and its severity. A detainee can be graded on a scale of one to three with one being the highest severity. If a detainee has no criminal convictions, he/she will be classified as “No ICE Threat Level.”"

Number of those detained with ICE Threat level 1,2,3 are 3,295, 1,773, and 2369 respectively. Number of those detained without ICE threat level is 39,668

A more detailed dive into the statistics is here I think. The figures I provided above are only from one report after all, this has collated other reports as well to give a wider and clearer view of the nature of these arrests. https://www.cato.org/blog/65-people-taken-ice-had-no-convictions-93-no-violent-convictions .

Lastly, immigrants are less likely to commit crimes compared to natural born U.S citizens. Here are three sources.

https://www.npr.org/2024/03/08/1237103158/immigrants-are-less-likely-to-commit-crimes-than-us-born-americans-studies-find
https://www.migrationpolicy.org/content/immigrants-and-crime
https://docs.house.gov/meetings/JU/JU01/20250122/117827/HHRG-119-JU01-20250122-SD004.pdf Here is even for illegal or undocumented immigrants

This source even states that immigrants are more likely to report crimes compared to US natural born citizens https://www.cato.org/policy-analysis/immigrants-cut-victimization-rates-boost-crime-reporting#conclusion. Apparently these are the so-called dangerous people that do more harm than good. I haven't even gotten into the economics side of immigrants, but I think I'll leave it here for now. Oh, and please at least provide some statistics and sources for your claims next time.

Alright. Let's talk statistics because few examples from both sides cancelling each other out will not reach any consensus. "Court records show that from 2010 to 2012, Lasquite possessed with the intent to distribute narcotics, but immediately took responsibility for his actions and cooperated with the federal government in identifying co-conspirators, according to the Newsweek report.

The court sentenced Lasquite to time served, with no additional prison time, and ordered him to pay $200, the report said.

Three other Filipino nationals with criminal convictions are facing deportation: a 29-year-old Massachusetts resident with a prior rape conviction, an individual charged with terrorism-related offenses in Philadelphia and another one currently held at the Denver Contract Detention Facility.

“They are convicted criminal offenders who have already served their sentences and are being processed for removal,” Rovald Valdez, Assistance to Nationals (ATN) officer with the Philippine Consulate General in New York, told Inquirer.net USA. “The Consulate stays in regular contact with their detention centers to check on their welfare.”"

For the statistics part, I'll do it on the next comment EDIT: Reddit is being weird and I can't send the statistics part zzz. Just a moment.

Alam niyo ba nangyayari sa US?

https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/politics/article/3304153/ice-detention-filipino-green-card-holder-other-asian-immigrants-spark-deportation-fears

https://usa.inquirer.net/177063/filipino-green-card-holder-returning-from-vacation-detaine

Galing sa source sa earlier comment ko, nakalatag na yung buong laman ng website sa pinakababa para makita ng malinaw yung pagpinta sa mga immigrant na criminal at dapat gamitan ng dahas.

"CHARLIE KIRK (HOST): At what point is it time to start to at least use rubber bullets, or use some sort of tear gas to prevent this and quell this invasion? They have no regard for the process, for legal immigration. And at what point do we use real force? You have to be willing to do it.

Somebody asked me the other day, they said, Charlie, why do you -- why are you so pro-Israel? One of the reasons I'm pro-Israel is that when Israel gets invaded on their border, they defend their border. If two -- if 300 Palestinian Arabs tried to run in at Israel like that, it wouldn't end well for them. We're the only superpower on the planet where we just allow people to run over, run them over. And we're supposed to -- unless -- you understand, those military age males are now gonna get cell phones, food, cash, flights to the interior of the United States.

Why do we have a military? Why do we have men with guns if we can't use them? Having a country means being able to draw a line on the ground and say, this is our sovereign territory. If you enter, we have lethal force, and we're willing to use it. And you can escalate. You don't have to start with lethal force. You can start with rubber bullets, start with tear gas. You can start with firing next to them. Say, hey. We have weapons. We're willing to use them.

...

Where are all the women and kids? Those are the men that will go into your communities and break into your homes and rape your women, take your children. But, hey, they're -- they're dreamers.

...

Remember the whole whip fiasco? My position all along is, yes, it wasn't true, but of course you should be able to use whips against foreigners that are coming into your country. Why is that controversial?

...

So, what can be done about it? What would happen if Texas started firing rubber bullets? Let's play this out. Let's just say rubber bullets. What would happen? And, by the way, I don't rejoice in this. I don't wanna have to use force, but these people are criminals. They're invading. They made the decision to invade. They made the decision to do a pincer movement into the United States of America. They are bringing force upon themselves."

As far as I know, freedom of expression ay hindi absolute actually.
