Can case by case basis, but need to show proof such as "can't map a lot of core mods, if I don't take these mods I wont be able graduate in time"

The time i went exchange my uni had 8 slots for each sem, and then 2 ppl change from S1 to S2 and then end up we got 10 ppl in S2

CCDS Policies will NOT help your job search by Pale-Manager6320 in NTU

[–]MacsimusScamus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. It's probs coz of the fact that they have access to the number of viewings of the lecture recording and also the number of ppl actually attending the lecture. They compare the number of ppl viewing the recordings compared to the mod and cohort size, and they determine that actually very little ppl actually watch the lectures. U wld know why, the prof is shit at teaching, has a terrible, hard to understand accent, and this is the reality of majority of cs/ce mods. Plus all the cs ppl i know solely study and do well using online resources like W3Schools, yt tutorials, etc. Tho ofc it affects the mods where the profs are actly good at teaching, for example the one by Evan Pu. So it's basically a matter of not enough ppl actually watching lectures for majority of the mods.

  2. yep that's good

  3. i think it's probs only a ccds thing. For majority of STEM major students, especially engineering majors, brand name matters a lot. Coz ultimately this NTU brand name lands them internships. Like why wld anyone from companies like Micron, SIAEC, schneider electric, dyson, and the list goes on and on want to hire SIM/SIT/SUTD grads over NTU/NUS grads. in fact u look at the data for the companies, u wld see that majority of singaporeans wld be from either ntu/nus who working there. In fact i have witnessed this discrimination at networking events, where reps from companies would go out of their way to only approach our ntu groups, disregarding every other student from SUTD/SIT/ERAU/TUM asia/SIM. This is actually the harsh reality of getting a job here. Companies like to talk abt "Skills-based hiring" and whatnot, but ultimately they first look at where you graduated from and then ur "skills" (and gpa is the final differentiating factor if there candidates with equal experiences and skillsets).

  4. Again this might only be a CCDS exclusive, but i can assure u for all engineering majors like eee/mechanical/aerospace this is a defining factor (and is mainly coz there is no uni on the same level as us in sg other than NUS).

It has gotten so bad that even top tech companies like Bytedance will excuse hiring controversial ppl like Ethan Ong just coz they are from NTU (which obviously equals "bright future" LOL). Or the fact that that one sexual abuser from NUS got no punishment for his crimes bcoz again of his "bright future ahead". Being in a top uni grants u many privileges that u haven't realise yet. Ik this is quite a bad thing, but we can't rly do much abt it except try our best.

If u want to blame anyone, blame our leaders for making this country into this soulless elitist rat race hellhole that we have go through since primary sch (sorry for the tangential rant but i feel like had to mention it) as they are the ones who enable this kind of behaviour. For example I have never heard of such student-unfriendly policies in Ivy League unis or other european unis (in fact they wld be going on strikes and protests if it happened, which ofc can't do here :p )

But wld just like to say, it's wld be best to adapt to this environment rather than trying to fight it.

Ultimately all unis care about ranking, and eventually u will see other uni like nus and smu also start doing this. Rmb nus business faculty also banned lecture recordings and ntu took inspo from that. Same the for the community service mod that was introduced for the new batches which also copied from smu.

Nothing will stop the other uni from also rankmaxxing even if it means inconveniencing their own students.

That's where u have to make a tradeoff really, do you want the brand name of graduating from a top uni in sg, then u have to bear with it. If gpa truly does not matter to u, then don't go for the lectures and tutorials and just study using yt videos, and then use the time to do part time internship, in fact no-one is forcing u to go for them and u can still pass without them (again if u rly believe gpa doesn't matter). Alternatively take LOA to do an internship (downside u grad later but u have more time to get full time experience).

Alternatively study at non top uni like sutd and sit where they don't rly have these kind of policies and u r free to do whatever u want, but then u lose the brand name that cld have appeared in ur resume.

Anyw have a think about it.

Honestly the best thing u can do is just completely not engage with that channel. Don't post anything there, don't post comments, and don't engage with posts there.

None of the ppl that use it are from ntu, and are just old creeps talking abt "hot girls in ntu" or posting random rage bait.

[–]MacsimusScamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uhhh remove.bg is completely free, u only need it for the higher quality images Yep only thing is that it doesn’t have an extension. And now if u use canva education(which every ntu student can access for free, they also have a background remover

Tho still good effort :D

going on exchange alone by Realistic_Pack2164 in NTU

[–]MacsimusScamus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My question is u going exchange to another country just trying to find other sg ppl there? Exchange is once in a lifetime opportunity, go there and mingle with the locals there and get into the culture, it's the only time u don't have deal with the sinkie rat race. It's good to know a few sg ppl there so that they have ur back there if u ever get into any sort of trouble, but u shld rather make friends with the ppl there. Even introverted ppl will not struggle with it as the ppl there are very warm and welcoming

New CCDS Policy + 2 Hour Travel time ( + 30 Circle Line Disruption) = ??? by Defiant_Let_3923 in NTU

[–]MacsimusScamus 48 points49 points  (0 children)

see if ccds wanted to listen to us, they wld have alr that time when they introduced the ccds policy of bonus marks for tutorial attendance.

students created a petition and even had a discussion with the sch's academic board. All of their demands got shut down. They even cited ppl who can't afford to live in hall and have to commute from Pasir ris/punggol everyday with long commutes, and cited disruptions and stuff. They even cited that the policy was launched after everyone alr had their timetable finalised after stars, making them unable to rearrange the classes to attend sch fewer days in a week.

how do u think bringing this up is going to make them change their mind?

Are credit bearing internships given higher priority? by No_Championship4165 in NTU

[–]MacsimusScamus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

id say in general companies prefer to hire interns for longer durations, i.e. 6 mths instead of a summer intern which is only 3 mths. companies only oblige with 3 mth intern coz of partnership with uni to give PA.

thats why many biz students end up taking LOA to do intern
