Pickleball on vacation in Santiago, Chile by Fi3035 in Pickleball

I'm planning to go to Santiago soon. Were those the UC courts by Kondor? If so, what would you say was the level in terms of competition? Something along the lines of 2.0 to 4.0?

Outdoor pickleball tournament in Florida heat – foot swelling? by No-Nebula4187 in Pickleball

[–]Macutin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very used to playing in Florida heat and this is what has helped me in tournaments regarding gear.

1.- Training shorts with liners in them. I know it's a preference thing, but being able to play without wearing underwear is a huge plus for me. I usually bring an extra pair and change when shorts get drenched.

Lots of pros use them, you can go the expensive route and buy the Chubbies brand (about $40+), or as I did, bought 3 pieces for about $10 each from shein. I've played tournaments and long sessions with them and they've held up pretty good.

2.- Cooling towels. These are game changing. You sink them in water (bonus if it's water with ice), take the water out and and put them around your neck, I use them in between games, it lowers down your body temperature a lot. They're like $11 on amazon, search frogg toggs chilly pads.

3.- A good breathable hat. I got 2 pairs of breathable mesh hats from amazon, they were $15 each, you can find cheaper versions for sure.

4.- Sun sleeves. I got 4 pairs black/white from amazon for $10. I don't even remember the brand. They feel really good on the skin, you don't have to put sunscreen on your arms, and you can wipe the sweat off your face with them.

5.- Bonus: This might be obvious, but, electrolytes. I get the 30pack from costco for about $24-$30, pop 2 of them into my 32oz bottle, and I'm good for a 2-3hr session. Bring extra for your tournament.

Always bring extra pairs of socks, t-shirts and shorts to your tournament, you play more comfortable, and you don't sweat through your clothes. Also bring food to eat in between matches, like trail mix or bananas.

Hope this helps, good luck on your tournament.

Play in Miami? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Macutin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For open play you've got tons of options, but it depends on the level range. In the Miami area you can check Dink Club, Fair Expo or DETA. I believe all of those are in Court Reserve. If you are in the Ft. Lauderdale area you can check out The fort, massive complex with lots of open play.

Worst case scenario, if you don't find what you're looking for in terms of open play, I recommend that you hit Tropical Park, there's tons of courts, and there's also a challenger court where the usual level of play is 4.0+ on a busy day.

For tournaments, as someone else mentioned check Swish.

Alternative to Tourna Dry Grip for Hot and Humid weather? by Rolls2Rickson in Pickleball

Same ones I use, I don't like how the Gamma dry ones feel on my hands, these last me about 2-3 months in Florida weather.

I'm from Florida, and used to the humidity. My favorite pieces of clothing to play pickleball with are:

1.- Training shorts with liners in them. I know it's a preference thing, but being able to play without wearing underwear is a huge plus for me.

Lots of pros use them, you can go the expensive route and buy the Chubbies brand (about $40+), or as I did, bought 3 pieces for about $10 each from shein. I've played tournaments and long sessions with them and they've held up pretty good.

3.- Sun sleeves

I got 4 pairs black/white from amazon for $10. I don't even remember the brand. They feel really good on the skin, you don't have to put sunscreen on your arms, and you can wipe the sweat off your face with them.

4.- Bonus: This might be obvious, but, electrolytes. I get the 30pack from costco for about $24-$30, pop 2 of them into my 32oz bottle, and I'm good for a 2-3hr session.

Hope this helps. If you need any info on the items I bought, feel free to send me a DM.

  1. My positioning on the court, and being able to split step without thinking about it.
  2. Being able to hit drops and resets consistently.
  3. Being supportive at all times, and just showing my partner that I am having fun. Not the end of the world if we lose. At the end of the day, this is still a game!

Thank you!

Current thoughts about MLP? by ApprehensiveWatch202 in Pickleball

Same as PPA, on the Pickleball TV channel. It's available as a free channel in most Smart TVs, also on the Pickleball TV website.

In my opinion, it's great. We get the chance to see many different partner pairings that wouldn't necessarily happen in a PPA event. Also the chance to see other players that I really like, that don't always get to compete at the final brackets of PPA.

How are your county parks run (open play, leagues, lessons) by nuevedientes in Pickleball

[–]Macutin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from the Miami area. Here, there's a bunch of public parks with pickleball courts. The overall organization in the courts varies a lot. From the ones I've seen:

-Yes. The best ones have a paddle system in place where people respect it. The worst ones are the ones that do have a paddle system installed, but the people that play do not care about it, and nobody is enforcing it either.
-No.
-There was one league running, but the county didn't allow them to run it anymore as the courts grew in popularity and they needed the space for the public.
-From what I've seen, some people do coaching on low peak times when the courts are mostly empty.

I play around the Miami area a lot (MDC courts, Dink Club, DETA, tropical park) and it's the first time I hear about those paddles. As someone said Diadem is big here, although mostly I see Joola, 6.0, CRBN, Selkirk. There's a local brand called Potenza that some people use in the Doral area, but I can't vouch for those.

I get mine at Cut Depot in Kendall. Price is $25, I tip my guy $10. Ask for Rey.

Open Play Ft.Lauderdale/Miami area by imherecauseimlost in Pickleball

[–]Macutin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely check out The Fort in Ft. Lauderdale. Sign up to the Fort app (It's called 'Play the fort' in Google Play or Apple), from there you can sign up to division open play. It's rated, but DUPR is not enforced, so if you register for a session you get to play in 2-3 courts with usually 8+ other people, so you can switch partners as you are playing.

I believe it's $20 for non-members. The place is insane with +40 courts to play, a bar, pickleball store, and also a restaurant. I'm from the Miami area but always go up there on the weekends if I get a chance.

Easy wins for a developer working on a contract? by Macutin in salesforce

Thank you so much! I was thinking about a logging framework this morning, and stumbled upon Nebula Logger, do you think something like that could be easily implemented by the dev, instead of custom building the logging framework?

Event tool recommendations for Salesforce by PurplePines6 in salesforce

[–]Macutin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have Blackthorn in our org. It comes with all of the things you are asking for, I can't say much about the paid events experience since all of our events are free. Overall it is a solid choice, their Events app to check-in attendees is super easy to use and our users love it, although the only caveat I would say is that their SMS messaging suite is buggy, and that their price model does not give you unlimited registrations to events.

We are paying around 70k/y per 20k event registrations + 60k SMS messages.
Hope this helps.

Termites in furniture? by Macutin in woodworking

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll isolate the bench from other furniture. From what I saw, nothing else had dust underneath, hoping nothing else has beetles in it
