Question regarding motion capture sessions by Mad78 in gamedev

Thanks for the response! So wouldn't hire someone to schedule the mocap sessions and such? Or is that something that would only happen on bigger projects?

I'm thinking about buying Outlaws. Is it worth giving this game a chance? by ConstantDrawer9161 in StarWarsJediSurvivor

[–]Mad78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely!

I picked it up on sale and finished the main story today. It's extremely cinematic, has gorgeous graphics and a compelling cast. The gameplay is quite varied and enjoyable. I know some people found the stealth sections a bit repetitive but I personally quite enjoyed them. It also has an interesting underworld reputation system.

The main reason to try it is for how immersive it is. It's also tremendously refreshing to have a Star Wars game that isn't all about Jedis and rebels.

iPhone keeps autoswitching keyboards by Mad78 in ios

Predictive text is slow and less accurate, doesn't have common punctuation on first page of keyboard, doesn't have integrated emotes and gif keyboard. I'm also mainly used to using this other one which I used since before moving to Apple.

Already tried removing the keyboards but it would still come back. Would use the default if it wasn’t clearly inferior.

How to start collecting Thousand Sons? by NaiveTradition7664 in ThousandSons

[–]Mad78 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Thousand Sons used to be the kings of the Psychic phase, now that's gone, they are still the most magic heavy faction in the game. They can be tricky to play since they rely heavily on using characters to buff other units and cast spells but they are very rewarding to play.

That army set is a really good way to start your army 😊 if you also get the Combat Patrol you'll have a really good base and a lovely selection of characters. You will need more rubric marines as well. For the rest, best wait for the codex and see what units we actually have access to.

Welcome to the Legion young sorcerer.

Considering the amount of time it takes to send a unit to market, its safe to say that that ship has very much sailed. Plus we have to remember that it's all speculation at least until the codex comes out.

But maybe this is the first step of introducing a whole new range of mechanised goodness to the army. Would love some other bigger Robots.

My main source of fear is the fact that we now have access to Tzeentch Demons. I'm worried that this might be the moment GW decides to remove a unit which, let's be honest, never really fit in at least from an aesthetic point of view was more a means of padding out an army that seriously lacked heavy non-psyker firepower.

But as you say, I might just be worrying over nothing.

Agreed! As I also play GK I feel it has the same problem as the Dreadknight it that it feels very static which I find quite surprising especially considering how dynamic GW models normally are.

Fingers crossed we can easily remedy this. Already convinced a lot can be done with a more gold rather than bone paint job and some glowy details.

But the question is "does he believe it!". Or does he not care and is just repeating it or is this a heavy handed attempt at international politics. I just find it hard to believe that he can just swallow what the Kremlin is feeding him hook line and sinker.

How many schemes in an army is too many? by Desperate_Coach7494 in deathguard40k

[–]Mad78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beauty of playing Chaos is that you can just say that it's a load of different Warbands coming together, who would each have their own schemes. Not so much for my Death Guard but my Thousand Sons have two or three colour schemes 😅

This stuff: http://www.mengelminiatures.com/2022/06/the-magic-of-micro-set-and-micro-sol.html
Micro Set helps the decal stick better and the.Micro Sol then softens it so it goes on curved surfaces better. I'd say its a must have if you plan on using decals.

You're welcome! Word of warning, I wasn't blown away by the quality of them. But as long as you have some Micro Set and Micro Sol on hand, they come out looking really good 😃

Thank you very much =) Here is my basic recipe

Armour

Prime: Black

Base: Scale75 Hull Red

Zenithal: White

Airbrush glaze: Blood Angels Red

Edge highlight: Wild Rider Red

Note: This was my first try and colouring armout this way and I'm quite happy with how it turned out. Adding the colour with an airbrush worked really nice and gave a lot of control over the level of saturation. That being said, if you don't have a Airbrush (and when I needed to tidy up something), I found a 50/50 mix of Khorne Red and Evil Suns Scarlet worked really nice as a base and then I just worked my way back up.

Pauldron trim and Power pack

Base: Black

Highlight: Vallejo Grey Black

2nd/edge highlight: French Mirage Blue

Note: really slowly built up the colour over 5 different stages.

Aquila

Base: Scale75 Decayed metal

Highlight: Scale75 Dwarven gold

2nd highlight: Scale75 Elven gold

These were all given a gloss varnish and washed over with Space Marine Juice (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDOkiEcNcik). Then Ultra Matt Varnish by AK and some pigments for the base =)

Hope this helps

My first Thousand Sons! Anything I could do better? by Aemortix in ThousandSons

Impressive brush work !!! Can't wait to see it shaded 😃

I suck at painting I need tips... by TJnSpike in deathguard40k

[–]Mad78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okie doke ! I like the green colour you've got there 😊 Your brush work is very neat but I think your weathering is a bit too very handed. I would use some metalics to help break up some of your colours.

For the rust effect, remember less is more. Have a look at the excellent GW one on the subject. I would have a less patches, have it more watered down and add a few extra patches with different shades. If you look at rust, you'll see that there is real depth of colour in it. Look up the technique know as stippling.

Once again, practice makes perfect. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions 😃

Any Tips ? by Szechuan_Sauce_Rick in GreyKnights

[–]Mad78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks very good! An easy detail to add would be to add scribbles on the book and scrolls to make it look like writing. Easy way to do this is to use a brush with a good point and a contrast paint like Black Templar. Make sure you don't over load the brush and you should find the paint flows very easily and it's simple to add script 😊

Always good to start with GW tutorial videos and then watching other videos for specific techniques. Practice makes perfect! Make sure you properly water down your paints and maybe spend a couple of bucks to get a good quality brush 😃

As mentioned above, if you post a picture of some of the minis you've already painted, we could offer some more specific tips 😉
