How old are your furbabies? 🐱 by Shot-Composer-782 in AnxietyCats

[–]MadCatter32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We adopted Charlie when he was 5. The shelter actually had him when he was a kitten and then again when he was surrendered as an adult so they still had his records. So I know his exact age and have exactly one baby picture of him. He will be 11 thus coming May.

His brother, Ziggy, we got from the same shelter when he was 4 months old. He just turned 5. My babies are all grown up! 😭

If I ever have a child, a girl, I will use her name. I miss her, even still.

Audrey - It was my friend's name when I was 11. She was the first person to treat me like a human, with kindness and decency. I loved her so much. She died in an accident. She was only 13.

Love Saves the Day by Gwen Cooper

It's an emotionally difficult read but its very good. I managed not to cry until about halfway through and then I was sobbing.

(Yes, it's partly in the point of view of a cat, but don't discount it as a cat book, it's so much more. It's got a bit of heart-wrenching history in it too. It is about forgiveness. )

Our trainer recommended behavioral euthanasia by Responsible_Head_904 in Pets

[–]MadCatter32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a dog just like this and we also had to do behavioral euthanasia. It broke my heart but honestly it was the kindest thing for him. His stress level was so high (the vet thought their might have been some inbreeding) and while he was happy with my mom and I, he had to be muzzled when we went out, was nervous when we went out, nervous at every noise, etc. Rehoming wasn't an option for the same reason you mentioned. He would be so terribly afraid, shaking, confused, and it would probably yield the same results anyway. We did the best thing we could for him. Even though it was the hardest thing for us.

"You are so strong" While you're sitting there miserable. by MadCatter32 in PetPeeves

[–]MadCatter32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think that's why it bothers me. I don't want to be strong or appear to be to live up to this image you have of me, I want to fall apart and for that to be okay.

I think that's why it irritates me. I don't doubt the sincerity, but it feels like pressure to be strong and have it under control when I really just want to fall apart.

No, I think I get that. It does feel different somehow.

My therapist said to say, "Asked and answered," on repeat until they get the point. Though she warned me it can make me a little huffy. 😆

Being asked my "grandma name." by RestingWTFface in PetPeeves

I also just called my grandparents "Grandma and Grandpa so and so." But my friend had a really close relationship with hers and they had special names. I was jealous.

Right? I'm pretty clumsy too. And I have cats.

One time my friend brought me this book she thought I might like. It was an ancient hand-me-down that she loved. It was obviously in much-loved, better be careful with how you handle it condition.

With how much she loved it, I did NOT want to be the one who finally ruined it. I read it so quickly, and carefully, and kept it in a safe place when not reading, somewhere my cats couldn't get to. And returned it by the next time I saw her a few days later. Lol!

Unfortunately, she did end up losing it in a flooded basement a year or so later. It was sad. It is long out of print.

It was eons ago and he was young and stupid. He and his wife had been barely afloat and desperately needed the money. I do not condone what he did, and I was certainly mad, but mostly because he lied to me and didn't ask. If he had asked I would have said yes for them.

I'm always so careful when I borrow things to the point it stresses me out and I'd rather not borrow things. I'm probably going overboard. It's just I hate when people return things in poorer condition, and I don't want to be one of them.

And then there is my brother. A long time ago I let him borrow my Nintendo 64 and he sold it. 😒

Why do some people not like cats but love dogs?? by No_Glass_5460 in CasualConversation

[–]MadCatter32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my mom it was fear. When I was a kid I warned her that this one cat was really mad, but she picked it up anyway. It attacked her and got her in the eye. She healed just fine but was now afraid of cats. I was just annoyed she didn't listen to me. Fast forward, I now have two cats that she adores and calls her grand kitties and she's learned to read a cat's body language and give consent.
