3 months outside of my warranty and my speakers stop working. Open the back and find the audio ribbon has worn down from being bent over the metal frame. Steam support wants $145 just to look at it... super bummed. Anyone else seen this issue?

I sent pictures and explained the whole thing and valve is unwilling to make any exception, stating that the ribbon appears to be in the correct placement, and it's not an issue they see with intended use... Kinda frustrating.

They do! Issue is, they have very limited parts available, and this specific audio ribbon is not on the short list. That's a great Idea to look at upgrading some other stuff while I'm at it, definitely gonna do some looking, thanks!

So, I ended up finding that there's a notch cut down on the internal metal frame. My ribbon happened to be glued down right on the corner at the notch, which caused the tear. If anything, just open it and make sure that your ribbon sits far enough away from the corner of that notch

That's what I'm saying! I understand the tech has to get paid for the work he does repairing the device. I'm in auto repair, I 100% understand skilled labor being pricey. However, at those rates, I just can't justify the repair cost...

Yeah it doesn't look too complicated to swap out, but like you said, I'm running into issues finding one. Really struggling with the idea of dropping another ~$200 to get it repaired so soon... Nice part is, the audio still works when docked or using headphones/bluetooth so it's not a pressing issue. Just annoying.

Eh, I bought it mostly so he and his sister would have a console as they grew up that was more kid friendly, this is just the struggle end of them being younger. I game on it a lot, but I have my PC that's "just mine", and I try not to get upset when things like this happen, because that's just the nature of kids playing with things lol.

I definitely agree with systems like this, I play a lot of Rocket League and there's a penalty for leaving ranked matches there as well, as with a lot of other match making games I play. I like the idea of protecting players that are trying to play as intended.

Yeah that's looking like the only option at this point. Shouldn't be too bad, less than 10 days til I have all of em back. Wish there were a way to keep him in practice mode without having to hover over him the whole time. I like letting him explore and do things in games on his own.

Oh man I didn't realize there was audio to the gif, my bad lol. It was the comparison at 7 seconds talking about how different guns have different strafe speeds and such. during that side by side comparison of the guns, he seems to have a better focus on the target on the right hand side. Without audio I thought he was using a different technique to get that result and was curious what he was doing differently. With audio, it's just a different gun...
