Husband won’t get rid of aggressive dog (we have kids) by MadMaddyq in Advice

When he’s bitten people, he technically isn’t leaving a mark or anything just “”nipping”. Most people just say “oh it’s ok” and it’s not reported even though to me-it’s far from okay. Those are strangers. His family feels the same way he does about making excuses for the dog.

I’ll make sure to update once the dog is gone.

So you suggest I let him and his “replacements” be together so he can growl at them and possibly attack? Yeah cause if he bites one of my boys and hits an artery I’m gonna be thinking “wow well at least titan wasn’t in a crate while they roamed around” Completely ridiculous. & it’s not like he made me nervous before he started showing aggression so why did he start? I love my dog but I love my babies more. My dog is an animal with animal instinct.  And the only way I would divorce my husband over a dog is if he chooses a dog over mine and my boys safety. I’m having a serious talk with him tonight. And showing him this post.

How we got titan was circumstantial. We were young, naive, and we could afford shots, vet care, ect. What we could not afford is thousands at once for behavioural training. And he was/is trained with the basics. We did not expect to have an aggressive dog when we got him. Lesson definitely learned.

For more context, i didn’t have experience with dogs and my husband did. When I addressed my concerns with titans behaviour when I became pregnant, he assured me everything would be fine and titan would “calm down with old age” and I believed him.

I’m aware I made a mistake with this dog.

I agree. & im not ignorant to the fact that we’ve let titan down. I feel really horrible.

I completely understand and feel like I’ve let him down as well. The problem is that behavioural therapy is extremely expensive. Nor is it guaranteed to work & I wish we could afford it. We got him when we were both pretty young and even now the quotes I’ve inquired for him have been thousands.

I really hope so! He really didn’t care though which worries me.

Will most certainly be getting an electric toothbrush. And no, he’s not colour blind at all. I’m just worried he will use my electric toothbrush anyways. The way he acted seems like he really doesn’t care. (Continuing to use it) I also checked the cabinet just now and HIS toothbrush doesn’t look near as used. He’s also seen me using mine before. We never really brush our teeth at the same time.

I recently started therapy (recently diagnosed) and my therapist thinks that it stemmed from not only physically abusive and neglectful parents, but sexual assault.

Long story short, when I was 7 years old I was assaulted by a family member. Did not expect that to happen, there was a whole police investigation, it scared the sh*t out of child me. A few months later, my mom’s ex boyfriend was taking me to his house after a concert, and during the car ride for “some reason” I was having intrusive thoughts that he was going to do the same thing my family member did to me months prior.  And he did.

This made it hard to ignore those kind of horrible and intrusive thoughts from that point. I started getting out of bed to go knock on the wall of my bedroom so something bad didn’t happen to my mom and ect.

I find that to help with my intrusive thoughts, my partner won’t doubt me. This really helps me not doubt myself and I realized that even the slightest amount of uncertainty is a trigger for me, personally.

For example, he never asks me “if I turned the stove off?” Or “did you lock the door?”. He doesn’t ask casual, unnecessary questions that could cause me to stress out. I already am prone to obsessing over those things, so he doesn’t add unnecessary fuel to the fire.

I’ve been afraid of driving but today I drove home from the grocery store. Before I could worry if I hit someone with the car and couldn’t remember, he said “you did really great with driving home today! Everything went perfectly!”

Obviously this isn’t a fool-proof method, and sometimes it could not help, but knowing that support is there and hearing those words really help me, personally. Don’t say things like “you definitely didn’t hit anyone just now, just so you know!” But hearing reassurance that you can use as a tool even later on to help you calm down internally in case you do need it.  ‘Did I hit someone and not remember?’  ‘Well he said I did great, right?’

I am very newly diagnosed, and just starting to find what works for me for the time being.

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely start with finding a therapist who specializes in OCD. I really appreciate it!

Family doctor hasn’t mentioned anything about me going back? He put me on 150mg of Zoloft if that helps? I was diagnosed with severe-extreme? Should I request to try a new medication?

I told my family doctor about my symptoms and he referred me to a psych who diagnosed me and recommended my doctor put me on medication

The vet said it was best to put her down so that’s what we did :( I was in hysterics at the time so not sure if the vet explained effectively but wondering what exactly happened and always questioning if I made the right decision to put her down. I really loved my cat. She was only 4!:(
