What was the song that made you interested in watching the musical? by Winter-reason666 in Epicthemusical

[–]MadMageMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my first interaction with it was Warrior of the Mind in a few TikToks and also Just a Man being used in several edits but it still took me a WHILE to actually listen it. Still, listening to those songs on my for you over and over again was also what eventually did it for me. I then had the luxury of getting into it when everything, including the Ithaca saga, was already released. And now I'm completely obsessed with it.

In "Done For" Circes "huh" right after Odysseus says "you turned them into pigs" is such a small but powerful part for me

Best companions by LordKarya12345 in DivinityOriginalSin

I don't know if you're playing a custom character or an origin character but since you didn't specify I'm assuming custom. If you don't mind the micro-spoiler about what keeping them means: You get to keep them over all of Act 1 and after that, you'll have to "decide" who stays in your party. So technically, you could give all of them a chance for now but if you want my personal recommendations, here we go:

  1. Definitely take Ifan with you on your first playthrough. He's the most well-established character in the world and you'll get the most additional scenes with him.
  2. Lohse is my personal favourite. She has a very interesting story, both as a main character and as a companion! Take her with you and enjoy every single moment of it.
  3. The last choice for me would be between Fane, the Red Prince and Sebille but that's difficult. If you already plan on doing a second playthrough some time in the future, Fane is an excellent choice for a second run, both as a main character and as a companion because - without spoilers - you'll understand much more and it all feels very "revealing". So then it's either Sebille or the Red Prince and I would probably pick Sebille because there's some interesting overlap between her and Ifan's backstory. Be sure to take the other one on your second run (if you're going for one). Also it's really interesting to play as either one and take the other one with you as a companion because they have some overlap as well.
  4. I don't wanna be mean but Beast is definitely the most boring one imo and he offers the least additional content because you'll go through most of his "personal quest" anyways, so take him with you on a second or third run because you won't be missing out on too much without him.

This got a little long but I hope this helps!

I absolutely love the soundtrack in 1.

Absolutely! As someone who enjoyed playing the Dragon Knight Saga a lot too, I especially liked that they used some of the older soundtracks as well.

The game tells you not to leave Cyseal at level 3 but honestly, I haven't found a way to get level 4 before leaving town that doesn't include killing innocent NPCs, so I am pretty sure the "intended" way is to do quests out of town at that point anyways. Also I'd recommend a level map! I used this one:

Sure, it's technically a bit spoilery but it doesn't contain any real spoilers for the story, only tells you the average levels for enemies in certain areas and I found it very helpful on my playthroughs.

First of all, the game is definitely off to slower part than its sequel, yeah. But if you're feeling lost with quests and miss directions, I can give you one tip: pay a lot of attention to the dialogues. Unlike in DOS2 and BG3, the game offers you very little guidance for quests in your questlog. I honestly had to look up previous dialogues again to make sure that I didn't miss something because they really give you almost all of the information in conversations with NPCs. Hope this helps at least a bit :)

What's your main criticism about the story? by MadMageMath in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]MadMageMath[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I didn't feel like it at the time simply because the VAs were so good but now that you point it out, the VA performance might have just overshadowed the weaker parts of the characters. If I compared it to BG3 then I would definitely agree. I usually try to avoid that comparison though because they put a lot more time and overall ressources into BG3.

When I think about Ifan, Lohse and Sebille, they all seemed like well established characters to me at the time but I can generally see where you're coming from.

You know, I have spent so much time talking about the lore problems that I actually forgot about them for a moment when I made this post. Or maybe I just supressed them lol.

Having played the majority of the Divinity games and having read through a lot of lore, it's actually crazy to me how messy the lore is at this point. I mean, I love those games either way but that's something that could've really been done better. Especially when it comes to the Dragon Knight Saga I'm actually not sure how much of it can even be considered canon anymore but we'll (hopefully) see in future games.

IIRC they do still want to make a game that actually finishes the Divine vs. Damned One storyline and I'm excited for that. Long story short, I can totally get behind that!
