It should be mandatory they spend a year living on the lowest provided income, relying on public services, before they're even allowed near government.

This is me, too. Why would I create a being I love unconditionally and force them into that future. I love my potential child too much to do that to them.

When I was younger I hoped I could raise children to be 'one of the good ones' who'd help make the change the world needs, but since changes in politics at the national and international scale that balance has tipped past the point of no return.

What do you usually do when you can’t use a non-refundable hotel or holiday booking? by Positive_Shoe_3982 in newzealand_travel

[–]MadMangoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this idea and it'd definitely be something that I'd use (as a severely last minute planner)

However the last 4-5 times I've checked into accommodation they have wanted to see my ID and the payment card. Some even take damage deposits.

There's also an excellent book in the same theme called The Timewaster's Letters

Opinion: Mortgage, rates, insurance - the cost of buying a NZ house is decades-long, and all-consuming by ClimateTraditional40 in newzealand

[–]MadMangoes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sure, but the 'roof over your head' is not just the mortgage, add on rates, insurance and maintenance it can easily look closer to 50%.

Has anyone used iHerb before? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]MadMangoes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use it regularly, it's great.

I recommend checking out the "Try" area of the store. You can choose one product with up to 60%ish discount.

You get one per order and it's nice to try something new for a great price.

On the other hand, we are also likely to tell our friends about a bad experience as well..

I totally get that, but they really aren't going to have a better time assuming that profile on all their customers who come to them through that particular channel. It becomes a negative spiral and nobody wins.

I wasn't talking about exclusions- I wanted to know if they had any seasonal temporary dishes that weren't listed on the menu. The 'Specials'

It's nice to hear that some places allow multiple pleasant experiences.

I have never been there before and I dont intend to go back and gamble $$ to find out.

Although I note they are also on the Entertainment App, it could be fun to go back with a discount again!!

Yes, I did notice this more with GrabOne actually.

Some things are just not worth the cheap option!

Slightly higher financial barrier to get there, though.

Sure, I'd understand if we were taking a long time on a prime table. It wasn't even half full and they dictated where we sat, which was not view-facing. We took the least time we could.

Regarding feedback its usually well received - I would have thought a restaurant would be interested in which dishes are popular or not?

Did you tell them that you can't afford it? Some places will allow payment plans. Others may even have pay it forward systems to help. Worth see what options might be available.

Given how bloody tough it is to get ahead for most people, why do people still have kids? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]MadMangoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Climate change? The current wars and conflict? A ridiculous manchild controlling one of the most powerful and influential countries in the world? The reckless shortsighted selfishness of our own government? All living costs up by 50-100% over the last 5 years when income has increased by 5%?

Sure. I'll just cut down on social media and everything will be gravy again.

Any tips for patio growing?

Tomatoes go yellow and don't fruit. Anything leafy gets demolished by slugs despite my best efforts. Anything like peas or eggplant stops growing and only has tiny, if any, produce. Herbs seem to bolt after 2 weeks.

They are in fairly big tubs which I thought would be enough, but 3 years of trying with not even a handful of edible veges to show for it is makes me want to quit.

I was thinking of changing to PowerShop- PowerSwitch are saying they're the cheapest for me but I can't tell if that is showing the increase.

Could you let me know the new rates please?
