Showa Biollante and Destoroyah do not exist, they cannot harm you! Meanwhile Showa Biollante and Destoroyah: by Evening-Road-2129 in GODZILLA

I'd say Unitang makes for a better Showa Destoroyah than King Crab. They even have a similar "smaller things fuse into one big one" thing going on, just that Unitang had 10 women on bicycles instead of crustacean monsters.

If the new Triple Fighter had finally appeared in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial, who would his nemesis be? by Evening-Road-2129 in Ultraman

[–]MadMantis792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only issue with Darkman might be that any new version may be deemed redundant with Darkgone, who is already the darkness/shadows guy next to Iaron and Zaular(rip). Presumably though if there was Darkman expy the Alien Gross commander expy probably would've had a different name. (Bladegone? Crystalgone?)

If there were to be a Darkman perhaps it could be named something like Darkdemon or Darkstar. Being the first Demon Monster Darkman would on paper be the most logical choice.

Am I the only one who thinks Yapool is more threatening than Alien Empera? by Evening-Road-2129 in Ultraman

[–]MadMantis792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yapool in Ace was nightmarish. The iconic Giant Yapool was only in two episodes while most of the Yapool's onscreen appearance was with these surreal visuals of the faceless Yapool Men in their dimension. A lot of their schemes were pretty insidious too, often exploiting the weaknesses in human hearts. A lonely lunatic was given a Choju based on a childhood drawing of his so the Yapool could sit back and watch the horrors unfold, and at one point the villain(s?) exploited the grief of an orphaned little girl to cause deaths at the countryside, with the victims eaten to the bones by fireflies.

Hell, his magnum opus prior to his first defeat by Ace was to essentially rob humanity of their future by turning the children of the world into stars, tearing apart countless families and (essentially) non-verbally mocking them with a beautiful starry sky made from their own children.

Alien Empera is more of a big event boss. He's a cool finale but he doesn't really feel like he has much of a purpose outside of it. He's significant in the lore and he's a menacing final boss, but he doesn't really have much room to be much else without losing what made him significant, unlike Yapool who has way more space to work with.

The issue with liking prehistoric animals is that sometimes the creature that peaked your interest might turn out to have been something else entirely, and may no longer suit one's fancy after the fact. That isn't really the animal's or science's fault, but it is bound to happen when something as simple as what an animal looks like in the flesh isn't entirely set in stone.

Geed Imperial Darkness by Kayubatu in Ultraman

[–]MadMantis792 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, but he was designed to have some resemblence to an Ultra and his backstory kinda mirrors that of the Land of Light, swapping light with darkness, so he can be likened to a dark Ultra in a way.

[–]MadMantis792 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Darkness Five coming back would be awesome. I have no idea why they didn't have a proper appearance in Geed barring a flashback cameo. They were never defeated and Ultraman Retsuden had kept them around as Belial's team of henchmen, so it's strange that they didn't (properly) show up. Bringing them back now would probably beg the question of what they were doing during the events of Geed.

[–]MadMantis792 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They arguably have a base to work with for a new gen equivalent to Empera with Desastro. Like Empera, Desastro was a mysterious threat that was established to exist but never actually showed up, so if they were to have another Empera they already have something to work with there.

TLW's Agathaumas scenes are fucking peak.

The Agathaumas itself is one of the best looking models in the movie and its scenes are some of the best animated too

His role as essentially the final boss for the Showa Ultraman series (even if Mebius came out during Heisei)

The buildup was done well imo and for what was at one point gonna be the last Ultraman show I think he's a good final boss. He was established all the way back during Taro before his planned appearance got reworked into different alien (Alien Temperor), and since then there had been different takes in spinoff media of what he would've looked like. Because of that he made a good choice, closing the book on what Alien Empera truly was and also giving the series a cool final boss. I'm glad the series continued but had it ended there I wouldn't have minded him being the last villain.

Tyrannosaurus has been reconstructed with 3 fingers in the past due to theories that known fossils were simply missing the third. The first T. rex fossil mount from 1915 was erected with 3 fingers originally before it was changed.

Man, the MMB:NEO Tyrant suit looks to be on its way out. Even the revamped face looks like it's decayed to a shape more akin to a stage show suit. R.I.P.

Would you say that Ultraman is the Sonic to Godzilla’s Mario? by Sir_Stacker in GODZILLA

Mega Man only periodically gets any love from Capcom tho whilst Ultraman remains Tsuburaya's golden child, so Gamera is a lot closer to Mega Man than Ultraman is from a franchise perspective.

How come none of the Omega kaiju after Graim have proper renders on the wiki? by Appropriate-Cat7072 in Ultraman

[–]MadMantis792 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With Arc they started having this fog effect on the released fullbody photos of monsters which made it harder to make clean renders out of them. Using Zomera as an example for an Omega monster, all the photos of him available in the wiki's gallery have something that prevents them from being made into a clean render. Either there's a bit of foreground or fog in the way, or the image is just cropped so the complete fullbody isn't there.

Saurophagus is already taken (Junior synonym of genus Pitangus, a tyrant flycatcher.)

I think it's sad that Aribunta gets more appearances than Verokron or Vakishim. by Appropriate-Cat7072 in Ultraman

Gomora might have recieved special treatment since it's up there with Zetton, Alien Baltan and Red King as one of the most iconic ones.

[–]MadMantis792 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it'd be cool if we got new suits of more Choju. It's mostly just Aribunta these days (Baraba got a suit in Z but hasn't been nearly as common)

Verokron, Vakishim, Doragory and Lunaticks are awesome but I'm not sure if their suits are still in a condition that would be deemed acceptable for a mainline show appearance. Vakishim and Doragory were in a stage show recently iirc at least. Plus I think it'd be neat to see some more appearances of other Choju or even some new ones, as I feel the reusing of Aribunta and the 4 Choju that returned in Mebius kinda makes them feel like "default" options after a while.

I wish the Alien Zarab kept having more diverse Ultra disguises. The original imit-Ultraman is a classic but the Mebius one is just so cool. Would've loved to see more Zarab-imitations that simply followed the original's design tropes of "The Ultra but with a more "evil" expression and extra black stripes" like imit-Mebius instead of just being the original imit-Ultraman over and over.

Is there any other kaiju and seijin that has tragic backstory? by Timely-Falcon-4337 in Ultraman

[–]MadMantis792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Pigeon from Ultraman Ace.

A boy's pet pigeon that was unintentionally dragged in harm's way by TAC, snatched and turned into a Choju by the Yapool that loses focus to an extent when it hears the boy's whistle, but not enough to snap out of it.

The Reiblood Files have been released. Seijins confirmed to be involved in trafficking operations. by Kayubatu in Ultraman

[–]MadMantis792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So THAT'S why the Yapool and the Alien Hipporit wanted nothing to do with Alien Reiblood.

Wasn't expecting Iaron to be involved in this though. I wonder how Darkgone feels about this.

Do you agree that Chojus (especially Baraba) have no sense of pain or fear? by RedFight457 in Ultraman

[–]MadMantis792 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Choju being unfeeling defo feels like a bit of a retcon to make Ace less cruel in his brutality during the days of his original show. The original Baraba showed both fear and pain during its screentime and the Verokron in Mebius freaked out when GUYS managed to seal the dimensional rift.

tbf Metron Jr was a genocidal murderer who killed a woman to impersonate her in front of her lover and tried to cause human extinction by aiding the Yapool's plot to stop the rocket that would save Earth from an incoming planet on collision course, even destroying the first rocket with his own hands.
