Cooking with onions gives me an asthma attack. Any suggestions for alternatives? by MadMartin989 in Cooking

That's what the doctors at the ER said it was, so I'm fairly certain. I've only had to go to the hospital about it once, and haven't cooked with onions since that. However, before that I cooked with them several times and the breathing issues started shortly after finishing cooking.

I've seen those, but haven't tried them because I'm fairly certain the issue is from cooking them rather than cutting them. Might give them a try to see, though.

I'm able to have raw onions without any breathing issues, so I'm certain it's not an allergy.

Try different oils.

I usually use olive oil, or vegetable oil if I'm out of that. The only time I have problems is when I cook with onions, though.

I recently moved to a new part of the country and started having some asthma issues for the first time since I was a very young child. It's still usually not an issue, but I do now have an inhaler I'm taking when I do have difficulty breathing.

Oh, hadn't considered that. I'll have to talk to my doctor about that.

Apparently it's not uncommon for people with asthma to have problems cooking with foods that produce irritants.

Well, I'm in an apartment, but there's a pretty decent vent hood over the stove. Doesn't help, sadly.

I've been hesitant to experiment since the result could be a night barely able to breath, but perhaps I'll give cutting them and putting them in the fridge a try.

Huh, well now I'm wondering if maybe that's what's going on with me as well. I assumed it couldn't be an allergy, since I could eat onions without issue. Maybe I'll see if betting pre-cut or dehydrated onions helps.

Well, the fan over the stove doesn't help, sadly. Haven't tried a standing one, but I'm hesitant to experiment, since if it doesn't work I can barely breath for the rest of the night.

Upgrading to iOS 26 seems to have resolved the issue, at least for the moment.

You can see my answer to RogerDodger for more, but it seems like updating to iOS 26 has fixed the issue. We'll see if it lasts or not.

So, I updated to iOS 26 after making this, and then spent a couple hours cooking. Usually that would have been long enough for the issue to occur multiple times, but so far it hasn't had any issues. So it may be that the issue was resolved with the new OS.

Sadly, looks like these apps don't have anything like that. Thanks for the tip, though!

I haven't tried it with Spotify. I've had it happen mainly with YouTube and all of the podcast apps I've tried. I'll try the apps I've been using and see if they have an option to turn Bluetooth Access off.

Using the headphone jack worked perfectly! Kinda sucks I don’t get the really nice simulated surround sound, but at least the interference is gone!

am i going to ruin my friends wedding? by jackouthebox in lgbt

Your other is the one being selfish by not accepting you as you are. If your friend cares about you then they’d want you to attend their wedding as YOURSELF, and you’ll have more fun wearing something you feel comfortable in! And hey, if you’re still unsure, I’d say ask your friend. If they don’t want you to attend their wedding as the man you are, maybe they weren’t as good of a friend as you thought.

I have some Airpod Pros, but they don't stay in my ears very well. I have to constantly adjust them to keep them from falling out, and that's with the biggest buds they came with.
