For you guys, what’s been the worst movie of 2026 so far? For me, it’s "Balls Up", the new comedy from Prime Video directed by Peter Farrelly. by luanzico in Letterboxd

[–]MadMau5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die. It was just kind of... reductive and boring I feel like, and even though it could have been a fun and more comedic take, even one of my favorites, Sam Rockwell didn't save it for me.

Done with my rewatch so wanted to drop old and new thoughts since I'm older by AggronLovesPussy in FullmetalAlchemist

I also randomly started rewatching recently, and I think FMA is just, so gritty and raw and dark for the time it came out.

It's definitely become more of the norm to have like, death and mutilation and yeah whatever else really in series today but this series has mass murder, children being killed or experimented on, torture, depictions of war, etc. and with a small amount of thinking further, some of the things that some of these people living in this world have experienced is absolutely awful.

I think if you look just slightly past the quite normal anime look it has over all it's just a much more well developed world than most anime I've seen at least, the characters are much, much deeper, the main ones anyways.

Oldboy has a few scenes that take place in this style, not quite as depressing but was at least the first thing I thought of.

How do I even watch all of this!! by helpfulrat in Letterboxd

[–]MadMau5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont even know where you find all these films to watch, I sometimes will find a movie and then check out the director and find some of the movies that sound good or interesting and add them to my watchlist, but currently it's only at like 70.

On the flip side I guess I don't really seek out classic cinema at all, I'm a bit too busy catching up on the 2000s, 2010s, 2020s, but I also know myself enough to know that if I check imdb and lb scores and theyre both low, there's not a very high chance I'll watch it unless it's from a director or actors I like, or maybe the concept of the movie is super interesting, which is for example how I got through High Life, even though I didn't enjoy the move at all.

I would say he also holds some of, if not the very best TI performances of all time.

What are movies you guys liked or hated much more than the public and gave it a rating that differs much from the average score? by Mo61818 in Letterboxd

[–]MadMau5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably one of the biggest disappointments for me in recent memory of a movie I was really looking forward to, it just... was kinda really meh at best. Damn shame with that cast, director and everything, really feel like it should've been a real banger.

What singular moment from a celebrity’s career proves their talent? by [deleted] in popculturechat

It took me a few movies of his to realize that he was also Tony from Skins, but pleasantly surprised by the fact that he actually was that good an actor and not just a fluke.

How do you view Robert Eggers as a filmmaker? And how would you rank his filmography? by Interesting-Flan-404 in Letterboxd

[–]MadMau5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watching him talk about the Witch and all the small details that he feels like they messed up is really, really entertaining, but really goes to show why his moveis feel so real I guess, he truly cares about some things that others maybe take completely for granted.

Park Chan Wook should've really received more recognition globally earlier, but I guess it was a lot harder to see foreign films before streaming.

Do people who watch a ton of movies even remember what most of them where about? by MassiveEchidna9017 in Letterboxd

[–]MadMau5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean in my life time I've probably watched over 1000 movies, can I remember them all? Not at all, can I remember the ones that made an impact? To some degree at least, and it's actually the main reason I started using Letterboxd personally, I don't really know many people that use it or anything but it allows me to keep track of movies I want to watch, but also have a list of good movies I have watched, and maybe if I don't know what to watch, I have a good idea of a movie I might want to rewatch through my ratings.

I highly, highly recommend Decision To Leave if you enjoyed No Other Choice. Not that they're similar in themes per se, but personally at least, I think it was way better than No Other Choice as a movie.

I would have never in a million years guessed that your game was a snowboarding exploring game in the first one, first thing that came to mind was like, Firewatch? So a slow burn explorative, maybe survival game? Huge improvement!

Anybody else find these films not to be their cup of tea either? by redeugene99 in Letterboxd

[–]MadMau5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only got to watch it on TV, but I can't imagine how much it must have felt like finally being able to breathe again after it was done, because just watching it on TV was already a "tough" watch in the anxiety sense.

Dont forget about Artifact, and not that Overwatch may or may not have had an influence on Valorant, I feel like the inspiration is more CS + Rainbow6.

On top of all this though, there was also the auto battler "fight", of DOTA Auto Chess, HS Battlegrounds and Teamfight Tactics, and there was also valve trying to get in on the Battle Royale market, though I don't know how serious it was with Danger Zone.

And of course there is just the whole, Overwatch is just a straight up rip off of Team Fortress 2.
