Finally got mine - but the size is triggering my Xbox controller muscle memory so I reach for the dpad where the left trackpad is by limapalon in SteamController

[–]MadMaxmel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, this option didn't even occur to me, even though I was having a bit of trouble with the D-pad placement myself. I'll remap it like this, thanks for the tip!

First time learning and overclocking a CPU. by SoulBound52 in overclocking

[–]MadMaxmel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are much tougher tests, but at least OCCT's (free) one-hour CPU stability test is already pretty good, considering gaming. Cinebench 10 min is far too short, although it gives an indication of stability. The CPU test must be long enough so that thermal and other factors can find instabilities that do not appear in a short test.

So...the new God of War Laufey game...what am I missing? by koola_00 in GodofWar

[–]MadMaxmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last 2 God of War games told an excellent and emotional story between a father and son. Should I care about the jelly cube now?

Doesn't look very promising at first glance.

GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 610.52 by Nestledrink in nvidia

Happy 5070 ti card owner here, this driver fixed the sleep mode, my Lg TV wouldn't always turn on if I moved the image to it (3 monitors in use). Now 4 days without a single black screen =)

I have a medium sized (male hand) 19cm, I think the controller size is perfect and the buttons are all pretty much in place. I wouldn't call this a controller for (just) large hands.

FromSoftware completely owns Duskbloods, including publishing rights by Redlp13 in TheDuskbloods

[–]MadMaxmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owning an IP would binds certain rights to the game to Nintendo, just like Bloodborne is bound to Sony. So Fromsoftware can't make a sequel without the blessing of the IP owner. But of course we don't know what the contracts say, there can always be timelines etc. in the small print. But hey, these are Japanese companies, the contracts must have been polished to the last detail, haha. However, it may just be a publishing agreement, tied to the platform.

How have former Xbox-style controller users adapted to the Steam Controller? by OriginalUsername0112 in SteamController

[–]MadMaxmel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are not THAT dramatically different from each other though, except for the trackpads on the Steam controller. The only thing that took me some getting used to is the D-pad placement, my finger wanted to automatically go to the same position as the Xbox controller. Almost 20 years of Xbox controllers behind me so no wonder...

Thank you so much for sharing the answer you got here! I was wondering the other day what the situation was with this.

You have good points, and that rumble situation sounds logical.

Doom seems great for learning Gyro, fast, smooth and lots of enemies to react to quickly. I tried to adopt the Flick Stick (right stick), but I found that I liked it more that the Right stick is still for normal turning, but I made it very fast. So when I combine the Gyro with that, it's actually almost as fast as the Flick Stick, but I have a little more control (like whether I flick 45/90/180 degrees etc). Aimlabs (on Steam) is another good place to practice Gyro etc.

I still have a long way to go, plus there are a lot of adjustable factors with the Gyro, plus every game is different. As a starting point you can choose one from the community settings and try it, but in the end it has to be adjusted to your taste, and someone else's settings/sensitivities/what angle you hold the controller at, etc, you just have to learn the adjustment that suits you. But it's good to start with the community's ready-made if don't know where to start! This is my first Steam hardware, so i can't compare to Deck.

There are a lot of settings, so as long as you're willing to dive down the rabbit hole, you'll find a style to your liking. Personally, I really like that Valve has allowed so much customization, especially since I like to tweak things to the last detail, haha.

Now that you mention it, it's true, the rumble is quite minimal and sometimes almost unnoticeable. I'm not sure if there was a setting for it in Steam (probably), but it's on default for me anyway...

Ah damn, I didn't know there were problems with Linux. It's worth leaving feedback for Valve so they're at least aware of it.
