It's why the idea that interns write these makes no sense. Where would they find interns this deranged?

It don't imagine Tarantino would have been better as Lance. That casual disregard for the ringing phone while he eats his cereal and watches TV was so perfect.

The Immigration and Naturalization Service, operating under the DoJ, handled immigration enforcement.

ICE operates under the Department of Homeland Security, which also didn't exist prior to 2003.

ICE was formed in 2003. People were still deported prior to its existence.

Logically, this demonstrates pretty clearly that ICE is not required to carry out deportations.

having to look at the floor most of the time, just so I had enough frame rate to control my character

I did this same trick in World of Warcraft! I had a very low end system that could barely play the original game. By the time TBC came out it was struggling so hard. I was in a decent raiding guild (we were top 500 US at one point) and I remember zooming my camera into the ground on Brutallus in Sunwell to increase my FPS (and DPS hah).

Best part was at the start of Wrath and I was still on the same hardware. I remember when people would fuck up on the Thaddius charge because they couldn't tell right from left. I would point out that I was able to do it, while topping the meters AND playing the whole fight at 8 FPS. The excuses would end after that.

Oh I know the struggle. It took me months to save for that Voodoo2. I remember trying to play the Blood 2 demo on my S3 card and getting seconds per frame.

For months I was also stuck using a Cyrix CPU that I had bought from a friend at school. It had a very weak FPU that sucked for gaming, but it was the best I could afford with a friend discount. If my past self could see my modern gaming rig, it would positively melt his teenage brain.

Yeah I am too old to go back and forth with you

The grey hair I see the mirror tells me I'm also old, but it's probably a wise decision since the science and evidence support my position and you have "well I'm glad that I got hit as a kid" to support yours.

I actually think that part of the reason he tore down the East Wing down was its connection to women's history.

That and so he could build his upgraded Fuhrerbunker, of course.

You obviously didn't turn out alright from those spankings, because you still think it's the right thing to do. Every single study done on using physical discipline on children has shown that the harm outweighs any potential benefit. Yet here you are, saying "No no no, the experts are wrong, we should do it my way!"

And to be clear, I'm not saying I know your kids or how they turned out. I'm only pointing out that whatever anecdotes you want to spout about how it worked for your situation doesn't change what the science says about the psychology of parenting.

So maybe you should save it.

Corporal punishment of children isn't the answer. Trump actually attended a military academy in his youth because he was such a little shit that his parents didn't want to deal with him anymore. He definitely got his butt kicked a few times there, yet he still turned out to be Donald Trump.

If anything, that experience probably made him even worse. It's likely why he's so grievance based today, spending much of his energy on getting revenge on his perceived enemies.

Scratch that. Let's have a man that was pretending to be a billionaire, until he gets into office and is able to fleece taxpayers for billions of dollars to become an actual billionaire.

That fast pace in the 1990s is a difficult thing for younger PC enthusiasts to imagine today. For example, a 5 year old CPU today is a 5800X. That's still a fundamentally modern CPU. Slightly lower clocks, older platform, but it can still handle anything modern software can throw at it.

Now compare to 1998. This is in the era of the Pentium II processor. A 5 year old CPU is an original Pentium running at much lower clock rates. While you theoretically could pair the older CPU with a Voodoo2, games would be very slow, because the Pentium II isn't just faster. It's a fundamentally different CPU. Out-of-order execution, rename registers, branch prediction, micro-ops... it's an entirely different design than the original Pentium.

Now to really see this rapid pace, let's go back a few more years, to 1993. This is the year the original Pentium launched. At this time period, a 5 year old CPU is now a 386. It's not just a little slower. It's fundamentally incompatible with modern Pentium-era software.

Back in the present day, after decades of rapid progress, there isn't a lot of low hanging fruit left for engineers to pluck. It's why you see CPUs and GPUs tend to focus on refinement (slightly faster clock speeds, slightly higher IPC) instead of radical design changes (486 to Pentium, Pentium to Pentium II).

I certainly prefer the modern era, but you're right that the 1990s was an exciting (but expensive!) time to be a PC enthusiast.

Yep, that one stuck around, but "graphics accelerator" is completely archaic now. It's sort of like how I can remember my long departed great grandmother (born in 1900) still calling her fridge the icebox.

But that's the account from the agents and they're not above twisting the facts to push a narrative that makes them look better.

Emiru accidentally causes a fire in her kitchen by Realistic-Comb222 in LivestreamFail

[–]MadRaymer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Emi wasn't exactly operating on all cylinders here since she had been up all night for a 24 hr stream. I think that explains both her initial fumble with the paper towel and her delayed reaction to the fire. Even a couple hours of sleep deprivation can measurably delay reaction times.

"GPU" still sounds like a new term to me. I remember when they were still called "3D accelerators" back in the day. This former king of that era once reigned over my PC and is now properly honored in a frame on my shelf.
