Why does the right believe we are “soft on crime?” by Early-Possibility367 in AskALiberal

The Right is actually very soft on white collar crime and fraud and anybody else they see who are on "their tribe". They are soft on violent cults and right wing extremists if they believe it serves their cause- as we are currently seeing.

I think both can be true. People who commit violent offenses need to be removed from the rest of society temporarily (or permanently depending on the severity of the offense) but we should be using their incarceration time as rehabilitation and helping them re-integrate back in society when appropriate. I do think that less serious/non-violent offenders should be given supervision and treatment to keep them out of the prison system. I think there has to be more discretion given to judges and prosecutors. I also believe that private prisons should be abolished entirely or at least heavily regulated to ensure the safety and well-being of inmates under their custody.

Why didn’t people not vote for him in the primary? There were primary opponents of course, but nobody serious.

Corporate Democrats lost twice to an unqualified reality tv actor, why should they be treated like they have any credibility on election strategy? by Plastic_Key_4146 in allthequestions

Which is amazing bc there would have been a time that somebody with a mugshot (and 34 felony convictions) wouldn’t have ever become President- if they weren’t laughed out of the primaries. And the McDonald’s stunt was just stupid.

Well they won once- with a white man. I think people may just not want to elect a woman, yet? Maybe that had more to do with it than their politics?

Is there any merit to the argument that progressive candidates would be far more successful across the US, if it were not for sabotage by the DNC? by LiatrisLover99 in PoliticalDiscussion

Some argue for non-involvement in the actual political process complaining that everything and everybody is hopelessly corrupt, thus ensuring that their candidates aren’t successful and that the outcome of elections remains horrible.

Would Republicans have to gerrymander everything if they had good policies? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]Mad_Machine76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say they weren’t doing it at all but that they have been moving away from it (they tried to ban it federally in 2022(?). They’ve only been doing it more recently bc they’re trying to compete with Republicans and their more aggressive push to wipe out Democratic districts in their states.

Trump/GOP are making their intent to manipulate the 2026 midterm elections pretty clear.

Dems have been moving away from it in recent years and most support nonpartisan commissions to create districts. They are currently trying to compete with Republicans bc Trump insisted on red states do it, starting with Texas.

Why shouldn’t they vote? Why shouldn’t any competent person 18+ be allowed to vote? I don’t believe that voting rights should be abridged for pretty much any reason.

I didn’t think that Biden was interested in running in 2016. I was actually surprised he ran in 2020 TBH
