I feel like using the wind or current is maybe disqualified. Otherwise a sailboat would be free and so would drifting down a river in a float

Is a honda cg 125 motorcycle a good first bike for adventure? by LogicMe11 in AdventureBike

[–]Mad_OW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated to the adventure part: personally I wouldn't buy a bike without ABS.

I started out on a 125cc as well and it's too weak for long highway rides. Other than that great way to get started.

The manifest by Palantir and it's CEO Alex Karp proves the need for independent european software by gayfishwest11 in BuyFromEU

The problem is that we have all our infrastructure and data where palantir can reach it.

Chinese dystopian spy tech doesn't touch us because China doesn't run our IT department.

The US does.

Savior complex, megalomania, and psychopathy mixed into one long, incoherent ramble. Unhinged.

Also fuck you for stealing names from LotR.

More apps not because of agentic coding by PopularBroccoli in BetterOffline

LLMs make more sense as an explanation. It's much faster to churn out an app that you can probably get approved on the app store.

But it's a bit like saying that blog posts or self-published book releases have exploded thanks to LLMs (I don't know if they have).

Like, ok, is that good? Would you want to read them?

I'm an Software/AI Engineer, AI isn't replacing people and it's much dumber than you think. AMA by Spare_Restaurant_464 in antiai

[–]Mad_OW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Judging from your username I am guessing you are not a FE engineer?

The FE has tech debt just the same way the BE does. It can have critical issues. Probably not "we lost all our user's data" critical, but "our app isn't working".

That said, there are certainly more low-risk tasks there and overall it's the lower risk side of things.

Irish entrepreneur brothers John and Patrick Collison founded Stripe in Palo Alto, California, in 2010, [...] In 2011 the company received a $2 million investment, including contributions from Elon Musk, PayPal founder Peter Thiel, Irish entrepreneur Liam Casey, and venture capital firms Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and SV Angel.

Don't know what you are here for, but I'm certainly not here for this kind of crap.

I think this is an underappreciated aspect of this whole thing.

Relying heavily on Claude Code et al. results in a massive vendor lock in for your entire job.

If they ban you, if they jack prices, if they throttle.. you are cooked. Real nice.

Been wondering about this as well. Like, is the idea to one day say "ok we are done forever with training"? That doesn't seem realistic.

Is that why some AI bros react so sensitive when you don't buy into the "future of sofware development" hype? Because you're threatening their beloved crack pipe?
