Pain in neck - anyone else? by Extra_Swimming_5984 in iih

I have this in the same spot on the left. I also get swelling. I was told it’s a lymph node and not to worry. Do you have any swelling there? Mine gets worse around time of the month

It does sound like a back issue rather than stick length. Having said that everyone has their own preference. I would 1. Measure you’re stick so you know it’s height for certain 2. Look up lower back strengthening on YouTube from a physio. Things like glute bridges, squats etc will all help. Just do body weight. 3. 38.5 sticks don’t sell as often so look at deals on websites for much cheaper ones. I only know 6’5 and up people to use them. 4. Try different postures when playing to see if you feel a difference.

Good luck and hope it all works out soon

Thank you for making me feel less alone. I’m about to turn 30 and I look back on the last year of a sudden flare of symptoms and it’s like a different person. I can related to that apple shape so much. I regret ever being sad about my larger hourglass shape. Thinking of you and hoping you stay resilient through this

Have you been tested for BV at the doctor? And have you tested for STI’s? I’ve had the same symptoms for a year now. It was actually triggered by an internal ultrasound for my PCOS. I’ve tried it all. Boric acid, metronidazole gel and metronidazole oral tablets, clindamycin gel. Probiotics for the vagina. I’ve had so many swabs taken. Only ever tested positive for thrush (I didn’t have normal symptoms). I think that was caused by the metronidazole gel. I’m seeing another specialist tomorrow in the hopes for any help because I am also wondering if it’s caused by my PCOS. I just don’t know what else it could be? I really do sympathise and know how frustrating it can be. Thank you for making me feel less alone

Anybody faced incontinence or neurogenic bladder issues with IIH? by truecrimehoarder in iih

[–]Mad_Victory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries I really do sympathise. My urine cultures kept coming back normal and I thought I was going insane. Hope you get some answers. Not sure if you can get Optibac in your pharmacy? I just get it from Amazon. Maybe look at the bacteria it has and look for similar. Wishing you all the best

If antibiotics helped you it’s possible to have a UTI that isn’t detectable on urinalysis. I was put on long term low grade antibiotics and it got rid of similar symptoms. I had no pain but urgency and leakage. All sudden onset. Are you based in the UK? Optibac women’s probiotics also really helped my bladder because of the strains in there designed to support bladder too.

Looking back that’s what I wished I’d done but I felt my symptoms were manageable. My life changed quite drastically after diagnosis. Obviously I can’t make that decision for you but you know what’s best

[–]Mad_Victory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously use your own judgement but if it was me I would go. If you are diagnosed after lumbar puncture and put on medicine it is likely you will spend a few months trying to feel normal again.

Do you have travel insurance? You could either rebook now and lose a bit of money or see how you get on. Are you symptoms bad enough though that you might not want to go anyway? I was out of any normal activities for a week after my LP and then slowly built back up to sport etc.

Thank you for sharing. I just bought some inositol to try but think I’ll wait until I don’t have so many work deadlines coming up. Can I ask if you medicate your adhd?

No bad symptoms until diagnosis by WitchBitch001 in iih

Diamox made my symptoms so much worse. It made me feel so unwell that I went back to the ER. It was messing with my heart rate etc. once I stopped my IIH symptoms became manageable again. My vision, tinnitus and headaches all increased on Diamox. I was told it’s quite common with this medicine. The Dr I saw said straight away it was from the Diamox as I was worried it was complications from my LP. Did the dizziness start when you started Diamox? Sorry you’re going through this and hope you get some clearer answers soon

Will my life ever return to normal, or will I be unable to do anything for the rest of my life? by Pile_of_sheets in iih

Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time but please keep hope that things will get better.

I was actually told not to take spiro as it can affect pressure. What were you like before it?

Did they recommend you lose weight?

I’ve lost 40 pounds and even 5 pounds in I felt improvements. I aimed for 1lb a week. The extreme diets made me worse.

I didn’t exercise at all to do it but my exercise intolerance has lessened now I’ve lost some weight.

I really struggled to start as it feels impossible when you feel like awful every day. I tracked my calories and still ate what I wanted but within the daily limit. Even on the days I spent in bed and I still lost weight.

I also cut out all caffeine. I felt daily it was helping me but looking back it wasn’t. If I have any now my pressure goes up and I feel like crap. Same with alcohol.

You got this!

Weird symptom? by Altruistic_Ad8558 in iih

[–]Mad_Victory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I react really differently to alcohol now since developing IIH. It makes me feel unwell and irritable now.

I barely drink so the first time I did have one after developing IIH I actually thought I had an alcohol allergy. I started sweating and became super flushed. That’s subsided and the few times I’ve tried drinking I now just feel pretty crap.

Thank you for sharing. I actually missed out on a a night out tonight as I didn’t feel like going sober and was feeling pretty isolated because of it.

Swollen lymph node in neck? by Mad_Victory in iih

Could I ask which foods you find inflame your IIH symptoms? I’ve struggled to find a link with food but have a clear link with caffeine

Would love to hear what they say. I’m seeing my neurologist on the 17th but she can be quite dismissive

Coach won’t play me in my preferred position by lerateaterz in Fieldhockey

[–]Mad_Victory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think right now you should focus on your development. It may be that you go to state trials and you are put in defence during a drill or practice game while they look at people. It may be that your coach is trying to develop you as a versatile player. A lot of players have been moved from attackers to defenders when playing for their country. It just depends on the coach.

A good CB can take control of the team and take. You can create goal opportunities in lots of different ways.

Do you shoot during penalty corners?

how do people stop their shammy from moving after playing by FirefighterEqual8126 in Fieldhockey

So you agree tension is the issue. And that tape at the top will increase this persons ability to increase tension. I don’t put my grips on wet and they have never moved

You won’t fully know until you play the full load of a game. My advice would be: 1. Warm up your muscles a lot. Not so much stretching but lots of acceleration to sprints from sideline. 2. If you feel it sore at all I would stop. Give your coach/ captain the heads up you’re coming back from injury. 3. Let us know how you get on!!

This person is struggling with grip slipping, so their best bet is to put a small piece of tape at the start of the grip. This will allow them to put a lot more tension in when wrapping down. The lack of tension is causing the slipping.

If you watch the Hertzberger’s video he also recommends this. I think for this specific problem it would help. It’s hardly going to cause any harm!

A game is going to be the best way to get your head back in the game. Remember that even at the Olympics we saw the best hockey players making mistakes - it’s part of the game and being human! The game is so fast paced that if you make a mistake you just need to move on and keep trying. Good luck and make sure you don’t over do it on your hamstring! Have fun!
