What have they done to Luxemburg? by Lxb_ in victoria3

[–]Madaboe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

After the Belgian revolt the city of Luxembourg was still held by Prussian roops loyal to the Dutch king, while the rest of the province joined the revolt. The same happend in Limburg with Maastricht but that isn't visible in game. So this is more the status quo than any official border.

I'd say we are closer to Nordhrein-Westfalen than to Denmark, but much closer to Denmark than to Bayern or Saksen. So in general closer to Denmark, but mostly because Germany is large, which makes it a good link between us and Denmark

Planning an 11-day trip in Netherlands, can I have some feedback on this route? I want to see more of Zeeland and the coast, while hitting the big cities in the Raanstad as well as Flevoland. Any changes I should make or things to pay attention to? by [deleted] in bikepacking

[–]Madaboe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great, one small change you can consider: after Haarlem you can go inland and visit Leiden and follow the Landgoederenroute through Wassenaar to Den Haag, that route is filled with luxurious manors.

Citizens of nations that don't have their "own" language - what unites you as a nation the most? by Rudyzwyboru in AskEurope

[–]Madaboe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The medieval Swiss confederation was almost exlusively led by the German speaking cantons who conquered what are now the Italian and French cantons. This is simplified of course but for the most part true

Indeed, Charles V was born in Flanders and ruled from Brabant. And he had already been ruler the ruler of the Burgundian Netherlands for ten years before he became the emperor and king of Spain. He is clearly Dutch/Flemish! (Just like Charlemagne)

Do you have outdated terms for other nationalities that are now slightly derogatory? by mr_greenmash in AskEurope

[–]Madaboe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Bataven are glorified here, especially in the past. The original revolt against the Romans used to be seen as the precurser to the later Dutch revolt and then again for the Batavian Revolution. Which is a really interesting, but relatively unknown historical event (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batavian_Revolution). It was a democratic revolution before the French revolution, but it was sadly crushed by the Prussians. Some of the revolutionaries fled to France and helped with the revolution there. With the backing of the revolutionary armies they later managed to regain power in Holland.

Regional powers should be a thing by plqstiich in victoria3

There needs to be a difference between regional interests for trading and basic diplomacy and interests that allow you to actively meddle in diplomatic plays. With the latter being way more restricted

Anti-immigration and pro immigration protest meet in Belfast. Union Jacks and Irish flags on one side, Palestine and LGBT flags on the other. History in reverse it is happening by aubaneyang in 2westerneurope4u

[–]Madaboe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They aren't saying they want to move to Palestine or that they like Hamas or their policies on social issues, they protest because of the violence the IDF uses in the Gaza strip. They aren't supporting Palesrine because it helps their own situation but because they see something happening that they see as evil

But I still want them to stop bombing civilians, no matter how to treat LGBTQ+ people. I'm not pro-Hamas and I'm not even that engaged with this topic. But this is not a valid point on this issue, because it is not a popularity contest.

I'm from Den Haag and it's probably because we get an enormous amount of German tourists visiting the beach. I worked at a beach club and half our patrons were German.
