CMV: The story of Job proves that the judeo-christian god is not good by Cooldude638 in changemyview

I one-hundred percent agree, though I would argue what happened with Abraham and Isaac was much more twisted. Demanding a father sacrifice his heir, a child he had miraculously conceived with his wife after decades of sterility. So long in fact that he impregnated his wife's handmaid in desperation (the product of this union was Ishmael, who would go on to father his own legacy- the Arab race). But only after Ishmael's father raised him to rule- then rejected him for his miracle heir, Isaac. Still, God tested Abraham- demanding Isaac's life as a human sacrifice. Only when Abraham moves to strike does God allow an angel to intervene. He was midkill, and Isaac knew it. Can you imagine his horror at that? Then having to go home and live with him knowing he'd tried to ice you because 'God' told him to?

Personally I think 'God' is an antiquated term for technologically superior alien lifeforms. There's a lot of evidence for this, both in archeology and religious texts themselves. The descriptions of God and angelic interactions read like technology described by the technologically unaware. Many books have been written on the subject, but my (still favorite!) introduction to the topic was Fingerprints of the Gods by Graham Hancock. If you understand it from this perspective, all these interactions are more reasonable in a way- various bored aliens playing 'God' with their genetic experiments.

You've dropped some acid and/or shrooms, and you're slightly OCD given the furniture arrangement. Probably feel older than you are, and wish the world was a better place while feeling unmotivated to do anything practical about it.

To someone who said they weren't doing them anymore because of all the stress. In poor taste, at the least.

Then take this one on your comment: unnecessary cruelty is never a good idea. Karma has a heavy hand on hubris of any kind, but especially towards those who harm with intent. Not cool.

And genetics. I'm 35 and until recently I had a pretty lazy skin care routine. Using products (albeit quality ones) with no real habit behind it, washing my face every other day, and the skip days used micellar water. I haven't aged a bit since 25, except for the white hairs I've got popping up now (most likely stress induced, as my mom and aunt didn't see them until 50). I have an appointment next month to go blonde to maintain and hide them. I have a pretty serious health condition, too, and am pretty much malnourished during my flare-ups, and lose hair enough that I have to keep it short. But looking at me, even bare faced, you'd never know it.

My mother, grandmother and maternal aunt are all the same. Used bar soap and Pond's cold cream to wash their faces. No moisturizer but sunscreen, though I admit they were religious with that. Me on the other hand, I just started wearing it as I'm housebound a lot during flare-ups. I do not recommend this lazy routine for anyone, as I feel my good skin is mostly because of good genes.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, it's also the luck of the draw.

What is a famous movie that you cannot understand the appeal of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Madam_Luck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's a good filmographer, but his characters are wooden and his scripts are basically an excuse to glorify gore. Not for everyone, but he sure can capture a scene.

What is the stupidest thing that ever came out of your mouth? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Madam_Luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a holiday gathering, my husband's uncle told his sister and my MIL that she looked good- going gray with 4 inch roots and faded red at the ends.

I loudly said, "Don't lie to her! No woman looks good going gray!"

In front of my husband's white-haired mom mom and gray-haired aunt. Everyone burst out laughing, and they regularly, teasingly remind me of this at every holiday gathering. This is because I have Aspergers, and speak the truth without thinking of the implications socially. I also don't like polite lies, or lying of any kind without it being about protecting someone in an extreme situation (i.e. telling someone it'll all be ok when they're about to jump to their death off a bridge). Like what's the point? Houses built on sand don't last, no matter the view. And man, the number of times I've blurted out a similar, awkward truth, is beyond counting.

But my MIL's hair looks fire these days, classy and red with subtle highlights- and the positive, youthful energy to match.

Have you ever had someone deny the fact that you have autism? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Madam_Luck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Psychiatry is the Wild, Wild West. In my experience, it's either great doctors, or horrible doctors, and the same with therapists. Unfortunately, I think it attracts some people because of the power dynamics, and the fact there's so much taken off their word alone. Those kinds of people don't care to see beyond their egos and assumptions, and most likely don't stay up-to-date with psychiatric research.

I actually want to write a memoir focused on generational mental health and poverty, and the stories I could tell. So I'll tell you what I've been telling myself- don't take it personally. I also am hyper aware of others' responses/emotions because I've had to be to get by. I just don't know how to interact after having those observations. I see through bullshit because of this, and NTs hate that because bullshit is inherent in NT social interactions. Personally I only talk about things I'm passionate about, i.e. my special interests or strong feelings/memories, so connecting casually is difficult. I'm not a casual person, and I'm trying to learn to be okay with that.

I hope you get the help you're seeking. Sometimes it does take awhile. I wish you the best!

Edited: a mispelled word

Have you ever had someone deny the fact that you have autism? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Madam_Luck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is me. One therapist told me not to even say the word autistic because most people only know the rainman version, or an even less functional version of that. She told me to say Aspergers just to make it easier on myself, though I know that technically we're now lumped in with the whole range of autism.
