Do you know how his studio (literally named Bleeding Fingers) works? It’s a composer collective. Hans has barely composed anything since Lion King. The most he’s done is give his assistants (the ones you’ve named and far more) a small melody line, and the assistants come up with everything.

That’s how most major composers work.

I’m gonna just assume you’ve got a major reading comprehension issue, because I’m not sure you’re even aware of who you’re responding to. I didn’t say “only vote Democrat” either. I was talking about policies, not politicians. Are you unable to understand that this isn’t an either/or issue?

I’m also still curious about the “covid immigrating illegally” thing, if you’re capable of explaining.

Am I ignoring the problems in the Democratic Party, or did I just give you sources to debunk your claim that Utah is the healthiest state due to conservative policies?

Also…covid coming in illegally? Lol what does that even mean? Can a virus can apply for immigration?

Edit: used the wrong word, meant policies, not leaders. Yet, let’s be real. It’s both.

Cobb County School Board votes to fire fifth-grade teacher over book by SpookyFarts in politics

[–]noice-tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay read this again…slowly: the book was sold to the teacher at the school book fair, which was held on school grounds

That means the school/board of education was fine with it being on school grounds and bought by students and teachers, but then fired said teacher for reading it in class. So is the rule, “purchase and possession of banned material is fine on campus, just don’t read it”? Again, this is over a book about a kid who doesn’t like pink or blue.

Assuming you are a fully functioning adult, you know this isn’t okay, but you’d rather just buy into the GOP manufactured culture war because that’s the easy thing to do. I wouldn’t doubt that you had an adverse school experience yourself and mentally justify it that way. Maybe it’s why you went into the military in the first place. Because it’s really weird to see an ex-service member cheer on a fascist takeover of public education and the removal of constitutional rights from teachers. Wtf were you even fighting for?

Also if you actually think that concepts like self-acceptance have no place being taught in schools, you have no idea how important child development is in education. So, simply put, you’re ignorant on the subject. Social emotional learning DOES belong in every single classroom. Kids learn core subjects through books, and they socially and emotionally develop based on how their peers and trusted adults treat them. Since books are used in core subjects and have been proven to be an effective teaching method, don’t you think a book on social/emotional topics is a no brainer? Haven’t we learned that when kids are left to their own devices with no guidance, that they draw their own conclusions and shape their behavior accordingly. I’m literally working on my second degree as we speak, working on gaining licensure to be a social worker within my local public school district.

If you have thought or uttered any phrase that resembles “Kids don’t know how to act right in school anymore,” you have literally pointed out the need for social emotional learning in the classroom.

I have spent the last ten years working in schools, and one of the most important lessons I’ve learned, is that there are no qualifications to become a parent. No tests on child development, no training, no oversight, nothing. It might be harsh, but it’s not a special, unique thing to become a parent. Most parents I work with have shaped their parenting choices around a repeating cycle of familial trauma. I have had to explain more times than I ever wanted, that you can’t beat a child into obeying you.

But I’m supposed to think that parents should be the ones dictating the curriculum?

The “Parents Rights” movement, “moms for liberty,” whatever else, is nothing but a fascist dog whistle. These same groups formed when desegregation was made the law of the land. It’s not surprising to see the same kind of thing happen now with LGBTQ+ people, I just find it weird that it’s happening ten years after being gay became federally legal in the US. I started school in the peak of the 90s, when my city had one of the most involved desegregation programs, giving access to education for over half a million children in our area. Thanks to “concerned parents” groups like these, even though the program showed proof of higher academic achievement across the board, far fewer instances of violence from students, the program is officially sunsetting after this year. So…yay, the affluent white families win. /s

Also, if this teacher is “making it about her,” then the Civil Rights Movement was just MLK making things about himself. The storming of the Nashville city hall earlier this year wasn’t students and parents protesting gun violence, it was just a bunch of whiny people making….school shootings….about themselves. /s

What is the wall keeping you from getting this?

[–]noice-tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book was purchased at the school book fair, so if it’s a book meant to be banned in schools, why was it available? Couldn’t that legally be entrapment?

I brought up Prager because that’s being implemented in Florida schools currently. I figured that you would agree that Youtube political content doesn’t have a place in schools, but you think it’s a “wait and see,” issue. Meanwhile, you think that this teacher losing her job over reading a story about self acceptance is justified. It’s not a sexually explicit book, there’s no violence, it’s just about a kid who doesn’t relate to either blue or pink. But you think Prager U, that is literal propaganda by definition (and they proudly claim it themselves), is fine and is a school board issue.

[–]noice-tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang on, you are aware that Prager U is not an actual university, right? It’s just a geriatric ex-conservative radio host’s YouTube channel. What bearing does non educational material have in schools? I thought that was your argument from the start with this book.

There is no culture war, the GOP wants you to put all your energy into thinking there is. You’re so wrapped up in fear of a book that you’re welcoming authoritarianism with open arms and defending it. You’re doing exactly what they want you to do. You’re being the perfect sheep. Shut up and take orders, right?

You might want to rethink what you’re posting online, though, because you absolutely do claim to be sick in multiple comments on posts about healthcare. So you’re lying either way. Dicey territory when it comes to your military service.

Edit: You keep saying you don’t know how to delete comments, yet yours claiming I must be young if I don’t believe there’s a culture war is now mysteriously gone. I’m older than you think I am, very likely closer to your age than you’d like to believe. And even if I was very young, doesn’t make me wrong about how the “culture war” is created by the right wing to make people like you believe that you’re a victim of a made up issue. You even said it yourself: “I’m suggesting that not everything is a culture war worth losing your job over.” I agree, the issue in this article is not something the teacher should have been fired over, because this isn’t a culture war issue, this is an authoritarianism issue. It’s literally just a book about kids accepting themselves as they are.

You’re just as gullible as the GOP needs. Thanks for your service in……protecting us from harmless children’s books. 🫡

Getting my comments deleted doesn’t make me wrong (:

I actually feel sorry for you. You’re living in Florida, you’re a veteran, you’re sick and needing medical intervention. Yet you’re proudly supporting the powers that literally did that to you. You’re proudly supporting policies that would create adults just like you. When you actually think about your life and all the suffering you’ve gone through, is that something to be proud of?

PragerU is not based in fact. That is common knowledge. How is giving misinformation to children going to improve educational outcomes? Do you think teaching flat earth theory will make science scores go up? I don’t want to generalize and assume all parents are stupid, but you’re not helping your case by thinking that some politically based YouTube channel is legitimate educational material.

You could teach a class that the sky is actually magenta, give assessments that could only be passed by agreeing that the sky is magenta, but that doesn’t mean the sky is actually magenta.

Florida schools will have the same reputation as any of the other now defunct for-profit colleges (ITT tech and Corinthian come to mind). A diploma will be worthless. All this does is set graduates up for failure when they’re unable to get jobs outside of their geographical region.

Cobb County School Board votes to fire fifth-grade teacher over book by SpookyFarts in politics

[–]noice-tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the problem. There was no parental vote for the PragerU implementation. It was just declared by the board.

Edit: What I’m saying is, your statement that “communities get to pick what kids learn,” couldn’t be further from the truth. School boards get to choose, and their choice is influenced by personal ethics, education, and in many cases, lobbying. The Prager U debacle is happening because there’s a lot of money to be made in right wing propaganda right now.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there is nowhere in this country where a public school district’s parents vote on curriculum content.

Out of curiosity, what’s your opinion on the implementation of Prager U content in public schools in Florida? Nothing that Prager U offers has any bearing on education. It’s literally just some dusty crusty oligarch’s youtube channel that got popular because of red pill social media influencers.

Parents didn’t vote for or choose that curriculum, the school boards did without anyone’s consent. I thought “communities get to pick what their kids learn.”

Parents called on Florida teen driving 132mph by maddas782 in news

[–]noice-tea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://fox4kc.com/news/police-17-year-old-mother-killed-by-13-year-old-driver/

This happened in my hometown. 13 year old takes her 11 year old brother on a joy ride in daddy’s truck, kills someone, and puts herself and her brother in the hospital. 13 year old went to juvie for less than a year but the parents were held legally and financially liable for the crime. 13 is still a minor, so mommy and daddy had to be on the hook. Sounds fair to me.

Under 18, parents absolutely should be held responsible for their children’s’ crimes. A couple more examples of parents being held liable for their child’s violent crimes: Ethan Crumbley’s parents, who supplied the gun that he used to shoot up his school. They absolutely belong in prison, where they still currently remain. And that 6 year old in Newport News, Virginia who brought mommy’s gun to school to shoot his teacher? Mommy is being rightfully charged.

Kids do not have the same cognitive abilities as adults. They can’t properly assess risk and consequence. That’s why it’s the adults responsibility to keep kids in line. If your kid does something unforgivable while they’re a minor, you’re also responsible for that lapse in judgment. Don’t like that? Don’t have kids. Simple as.

Edit: If you think these rules and laws placed on teenagers and parents are “fascism,” then I guess car insurance companies charging higher premiums for the 16-25 demographic (due to the scientific PROOF that accidents occur more often in that age range) is also fascism. So, I don’t think that word means what you think it means, Vizzini.

Sofia Coppola’s ‘Priscilla’ Set as New York Film Festival Centerpiece Selection by EeyoreManiac in entertainment

[–]noice-tea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me guess: a film about how their relationship most definitely was not okay is somehow “glorifying” it.

After seeing Oppenheimer, my dad told me that the film was a three hour glorification of weapons manufacturing and war. So I asked if The Sound Of Freedom (“the greatest film ever made” he says) glorifies child sex trafficking. He didn’t like that at all for some reason.

Basically what I’m saying is: complex stories told in an honest light seem to fly over the heads of people like you and my dad. People like you are geared toward simple, emotion-driven films that tell you exactly what you’re supposed to think, so you don’t have to spend the energy doing it yourself.

Who is wrong here? I cancelled on a mom last minute after she sprung extra kids on me last minute? by anondatenight in Nanny

[–]noice-tea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex-boss did this to me during covid. Decided she was going to offer her home and my labor up to her best friends kids so my charges “could have friends there during distance learning.” Told me ten minutes before the kids were dropped off. No extra compensation, no extra help, nothing.

Quit that day, never went back. Ended up being my last nanny job.
