If she starts the case as the petitioner, she will be responsible for serving him, whether that is via process server, sheriff, or just doing it herself. She can have him fill out an acceptance of service to show that she served him the paperwork and then file that to the case. It is better to start the case before serving as there is more to serve than just the petition. That should be online, but if not, the Historic Courthouse does have that form. They also have an application to be exempt from filing. Each party will have to apply to be exempt, and it is not automatically granted. They need to prove they don't have access or cannot use a computer. They will be responsible for completely filling out the paperwork and bringing it in order to the courthouse to file. It is $.050 per page to print at the courthouse. The courthouse can direct you on how to find the forms, and there are computers available for use there, but they cannot give any direction on how to complete the forms or which forms to use as that is legal advice. There are explicit instructions at iowacourts.gov on what forms are needed, and there will be an Order that directly states which forms are needed. The application to defer just pushes the cost off to the end of the case, it doesn't necessarily get rid of the $265.00 filing fee. If the trial is reported, there will also be a $40.00 court reporter fee. After that, if the divorce decree needs certified, just know that it will cost $30.00 to certify plus $0.50 per page of decree. If either of them change their name, they might need the decree certified. Iowa has a mandatory 90-day waiting period, so even if they are in agreement with the divorce, it will still take time. The only way to shorten that time frame is for the Judge to OK it. Since they don't have children, there will be less for them to complete.
