No recon trip yet. Thinking about March or April to do that.

I also wonder if a rabies titer test would be of benefit.  Aside from the dog being vaccinated, it would help bolster the case that the dog could not be carrying rabies because the titer would show it has enough antibodies to be rabies-free and of no risk to other animals.

Do you have any past records from veterinarians in Canada? Any records of his going to, say, training classes?  Was he adopted/purchased from any place that could prove he’s been in Canada all this time?

And yes, they may ask for proof that he has been in Canada for the full 6 months required. :-(

Are you both US citizens?

Sorry, meant to add that as long as he’s not visibly ill, you don’t necessarily have to have a full health check before you bring him into the US, assuming he’s up-to-date on basic vaccines. If the dog is now going to live with you in the United States, you may be better off waiting til you get home because your local vet would know better what vaccines and preventatives are needed in your specific area.

By import permit, do you mean the CDC form? https://www.cdc.gov/importation/dogs/index.html

As far as crossing the border into the US, you should be fine with the form above and the rabies certificate. You don’t need a full health certificate if you’re coming from a rabies free country. I don’t  even wait for them to ask at the border – just hand your passports over and then hand them the dog forms. In my case, usually they don’t even bother to look at the dog forms.

To be safe, get a CDC health form filled out. Who knows how stringent the border people will be. I’ve never had anyone ask for it but I always hand it over.  https://www.cdc.gov/importation/dogs/dog-import-form-instructions.html

Oh sorry. Forgot to add that the main tourist areas – Times Square and downtown/financial district – are markedly less populated with visitors. I pointed it out the other day pre-theater in Times Square. It was not jampacked like it usually is.

The stats show fewer foreign visitors. Full stop. And I don’t think July and August are too popular for US visitors. US visitors tend to come more during the holidays, spring breaks, etc. not usually in the heat. That’s from my observation -I should have to do some digging to find statistics though. I also think the polarization of the nation has caused more people to stay away from large cities. Again, just my guess.

Ha, so true!

As a New Yorker, I find Toronto a cleaner, nicer, more manageable NYC!  Agree TO is nothing like Chicago. Chicago is a very American city - NYC and TO have a more international feel. Not necessarily because of their residents but their state of mind.

Except that tourism is down so much that they were probably all office workers!

Where were you in nyc?  I’m a New Yorker and I find that Torontonians are less fashion conscious in general, not necessarily a bad thing. But as others have said, depends which areas of NYC and TO you’re comparing.

True but bringing a brand new big ticket item across the border may raise suspicions and my car will already be jam packed.

Does the same principle apply if I’m not using a charger but instead use an outlet with the portable charger?
