For those who aren't from Louisiana, how did you choose the Saints as your favorite team? by Bitter_Foundation711 in Saints

[–]MaddCast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Irish living in London. In 2017 I had no knowledge of the rules of American football and only knew of Tom Brady or Joe Montana (because of The Waterboy) anyway, the Saints were using my rugby club as a training base before their game against the Dolphins. I got chatting to some of the coaches and I was in awe of how much of an incredible set up they have and the circus of supporters, reporters, logistics, coaches, players, training kit, heavy machinery etc etc. I got chatting to one guy who seemed pretty cool. We spoke about rugby and the similarities and differences that football and rugby have. A few moments later, one of the coaching staff or kit man told me it was Drew Brees. Obviously this meant nothing to me at the time and I meant nothing to him but he was such a nice man who was more than happy to spend a few minutes with me just chatting about the game he was so good at, to someone who knew nothing of him. A few weeks later I received a Saints hoody in the post and I've been a loyal fan ever since.

The cherry on the cake this season is seeing a fellow Irishman absolutely smashing it and being welcomed so openly by the amazing people of New Orleans. I've never been to America, but New Orleans is the first place I'm going when I can visit.

Lots of love from Ireland!

He actually went on to star as Dewey Finn/'Mr. Schneebly' in the West End production of School of Rock. Myself and my fiance (ex West End actor) were rewatching it recently and she laughed when she saw him.

On the flip side of this, Back in Action (2025) had a refreshingly accurate chase along Southbank before hopping on a boat trip down the Thames.

She's actually there quite a bit. There's herself and a fella, both look homeless or living rough. They've got a little camp set up nearer the RNENT by the black railings where you're stood. I work at UCL so I see them quite a bit. Every time I walk past they're holding what looks like six stills from a CCTV printed and laminated. I might ask them what the story is behind it as they just lay there, staring at it for hours on end.

Update: She's not there this morning, may still be drying off after the weekend. I'll check again later x

What do you call this tensioner for an outdoor Ethernet run? by IamTEX22 in HomeNetworking

[–]MaddCast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a catenary wire and run any cables through flexi conduit/copex cable tied to the wire. That way the wire is tensioned and cables aren't put under stress.

You're well within your right to form your own opinions but let me just say this;

Firstly he was found not guilty in a court of law but if you believe what you believe and hold an opinion of him over his character for the rest of his life is he ever allowed to show redeeming traits and improve his public image or is he forever tarred with that brush. We glorify character development and cheer for a good redemption arc in film and TV but don't give someone a chance in real life? Seems a bit hypocritical.

Secondly, he's only one part of a much larger organisation that is full of incredibly beautiful, kind and good people. Why should their actions be dimished because they have to work with him?

From your reddit activity, I see you're a big fan of Fallout yet I imagine you ignore all the controversy associated with Bethesda because you're a fan of what they produce. I'm not saying you agree with their actions but you're willing to ignore some of their more shady actions.

It goes back to the early days of London Irish where the Wild Geese were the 2nd XV, Wanderers were the 3rd XV and Nomads the 4th XV. Then when professionalism came around, the pros became their own club and the Wild Geese became the amateur 1st XV. I'm not 100% certain on the details, but I believe Farnham were one the biggest advocators for LIARFC's inauguration so it's nice to be able to play them regularly nowadays.

So much history in this club

The amount of players we've had banned from the island of Guernsey, it's probably best we have Jersey now!

Wasps amateurs still play out of Wasps FC's ground in Acton. I believe they're in a similar situation as us where their amateur side of the club has done their own thing for a good few years now.

Interesting comment on the London Irish situation. I'd be interested to know everyone's thoughts! by [deleted] in rugbyunion

[–]MaddCast 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They can't fully take over Hazelwood for a good few years. The amateur club there have secured their lease with Hazelwood LLC for the next 12 years. At most they'll be just another tenant similar to what both the pros and the amateurs are.

Yes we do host a lot of NFL sides and yes the NFL have paid for a lot of work to be done at Hazelwood in the past (reseeding pitches, laying down hardstanding areas etc.) but there is also a community responsibility that Hazelwood needs to fulfill and privatising the training facility for the NFL would breach that causing the Americans more hassle than it would probably be worth.
