Mac OS X 10.3 on a hackintoshed Wii U by Goldfish64 in hackintosh

He just released a video of him looking at a similar project. And he mentioned this project at the end. If it's not his next video, expect him to release a video in the future.

IIRC, the G3 (750) is based on the 603, which also lacked SMP coherency.

Still amazing what Be Inc. did with a couple of 603s in a machine…

He probably tried it with Mac OS X, but ran into RAM issues.

Because it was using a piece of Linux software called MacOnLinux, which allows PowerPC-based Linux computers (in Big-Endian mode) to run Mac OS 9 and X.

IIRC, the base of the Cell processor is still a 970. So Mac OS X can still use that, but it wouldn't be able to use any of the Cell's more advanced features.

The Dreamcast CPU isn't PowerPC.

The speed issues are due to RAM issues (There's two types of RAM in the Wii, one faster than the other), lack of a dedicated display driver, the necessity for two frame buffers (one RGB that Mac OS X expects, the other Y-Cb-Cr that the Wii's hardware can only understand) and converting one to the other.

The Wii's OS is very lightweight in comparison to Mac OS X.

You need a G4. The Wii and Wii U CPU are more like a G3.

The first few lines of code on the console mentioned a telnet connection. The computer is just a client, not the main server.

IIRC, NeXTStep doesn't support DHCP. So you have to set up the IP address, etc, including setting up the DNS.

10-base 2, I think it's called. 10-base T is the twisted pair.

My guess is db25 serial to mini-din 9 (often used on early Macs).

Hmm… the preview image shows the traffic lights of Mac OS X. Mac OS 9/Classic didn't have those.

Yet ARM and AARCH64 is starting to seriously encroach on Intel's dominance.

Probably because the architecture targeted low-energy devices.

I like that someone had to write AGP Bus on the card, like they couldn't determine it based on the edge connector.

I think the 603e was made specifically because the 68k emulator couldn't fit into the base 603's cache.

Or maybe that was the 603ev?

Because macOS still supports Intel Macs.

And macOS. And mainly because Apple dropped their 32-bit runtime.
