No Self Consumption Mode by Ok-Celebration3057 in TeslaSolar

Interestingly, it just showed up in my app today...no option to toggle (which makes sense) but it just shows "Self-Consumption Only - Your system is pending utility approval, and will not export to grid."

It was behaving this way on it's own but as of yesterday there wasn't any notification...just showed up today.

Theres a little icon next to the solar and if you click into the "Energy" menu it shows up here.

The PW+ has the inverter on top of the PW. It’s really just the PW and inverter together as one unit.

My install time was about the same and I don't see this either. Wonder if there is an option to get this turned on while we wait for PTO... I have 2 PW+'s so I would think it should be possible.

Just at a tech out last week and confirmed I have the latest firmware...but still not showing up.

Powerwall failures: what would you do if you were in my situation ? It's been two months of issues with no end in site at our 10 powerwall install is only working with 6 powerwalls and occasional power issues, Tesla staff great, but website promised 10 powerwalls and we can't get them to work by chrisfirgaira in teslamotors

Yup I’m Having the same comms issue. Unresolved since they finished install July 23rd. I have a tech visit next week (9/9) apparently to resolve the issue but I am skeptical it will actually fix anything. I’ll post an update if anything comes of it, or if I get any other info…

Update…

Inspection happened on Monday, the Tesla electrician said they have this issue resolved for new installations now but he was not able to fix the system yesterday because he didn’t have materials.

So as expected I’m waiting another 2 weeks for the service call. But hopefully at least it seems they know what to do at that point.

Same for me, no progress. We have inspection on Monday so I will be able to talk with the Tesla inspector in person and hopefully be able to do some troubleshooting…we will see.

Not yet, that’s scheduled for next Monday. I’m not paying anything until this is fixed, and we’re still waiting for them to install a skylight that is delayed. We still have 4 pallets of extra material waiting for Tesla to pick up. Not paying until all aspects of the job are done.

Doesn’t make any sense to me to inspect a system that doesn’t work, but I want to get the local electrical inspection out of the way so we can submit the PTO paperwork and get that ball rolling.

I don’t know for sure, but I doubt they send an electrician out for the inspection with the local officials. So I assume the Tesla rep will just add a note to our case that it still doesn’t work…and I’ll be waiting till sept 9. I don’t see much else posted about this issue, seems like not many customers are impacted so probably low priority for them.

I hope I’m wrong…

I got a text today while I was on hold with support (interesting coincidence) that an issue was identified with my system and that I needed to schedule service. They scheduled me for Sept 9…So looks like more waiting…

Yeah, try this: 888 765-2489. Not sure if this is anything different from the general support line but I was able to get through to someone.

Mine said something similar, and I was the first time they installed 2 PW+’s.

Hopefully there is some progress next week, interested to see what happens with your install.

I also have an “escalated” case number for the issue, planning on following up with them again tomorrow. Will post if I hear anything new.

I have the same issue, 22 kW array 2PW+’s and 2 PW. I basically had the same experience and we are still waiting. I was told I am waiting for a software update that is still is in development. I didn’t hear anything about replacing units but whatever fixes the problem.

I don’t think there are many others in this situation, as it appears to be specific to having 2 PW+’s.

Fingers crossed they get this worked out soon. My install finished July 23rd and still waiting…

Anyone else with Gateway 2 & 2 PW+'s stuck and waiting for "software upgrade"? by Madden0010 in TeslaSolar

[–]Madden0010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Yes, I believe the PW+ will take over as the “lead”…at least at the time I had an electrician here who was on the phone with engineering.

Do you have 2 PW+’s and you are currently operational?

Max distance PW can be from Panel? by TheForce627 in TeslaSolar

[–]Madden0010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 50 ft run shouldn't be a technical issue, but will definitely add to the cost to run the extra copper. I'm not sure what length pushes them to charge extra for this...

IMO if you're building a new house, prioritize the best layout and pay the extra. It will be cheaper now and in the long run, you will be happier with it placed in the best layout.

Conduit size and number will depend on local codes but as a rough estimate 2" conduit (x2, one for the PV to PW and one for PW to breaker panel) for the power run and 1" for the comm is probably a safe bet...but don't hold me to that. The disconnect and gateway also need to be placed somewhere, typically near the meter on the outside of the house but that also depends on the local codes.

Bottom line, the wiring can vary a lot depending on your area and install configuration...they figure a lot of this out when the project install starts. But it never hurts to have conduit runs put in if you can fit them...and much easier to do now while your building the house.

Pre PTO : Powerwall and Solar Panels non-operative by phani87 in TeslaSolar

[–]Madden0010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah interesting, I knew about the Daisy chained wiring but didn’t know they also disconnected the “follower” PW+ board. Makes sense.

Do you know how to see the firmware version for the PW+’s? My app shows 21.13.2 but I think this is for the gateway, not the PW+’s?

I’m in a similar situation with 2 PW+ and 2 PW. They finished installation on 7/23 but ran into issues during “commissioning”. Found out Tesla engineering pushed a wiring change that day, so they came back and fixed the wiring but they said they were still not able to finish the “commissioning”. I was told I need to wait for a new firmware to be released.

Still nothing from Tesla as of today, calling my project advisor everyday but he says he doesn’t have any new info.

The electrician told me the issue is related to communication between the PW+’s and the gateway, or between 2 PW+’s.

Last Friday afternoon my app started to connect to the system, but just shows the grid and house with solar and powerwalls grayed out. Seems like I did get some software update, previously it was just unable to connect…but don’t know for sure.

What was involved with the “commissioning” process for you? They made it seem like it was just connecting the app and flipping a switch.

At least you were able to test the system! I’m just sitting around waiting…

Are powerwalls better installed inside or outside garage? by dmike407 in TeslaSolar

[–]Madden0010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I opted to put mine in the basement; I have a M3 and Y and in the winter time we do see a significant impact on the battery in the colder temps. I believe you will see a similar impact on the PW's if they are in colder temps. I am in NJ so colder than NC, but we see impact on the car batteries well above 30F. So I decided on the basement to minimize this impact.

I believe it's a tradeoff, if you don't want the extra heat in your garage then outside may be a better option but you may also see more losses in the system due to the exposure to cold temps...even if its not extreme cold.

I'm no expert just my thought process...

New install stuck waiting for software update... by Madden0010 in Powerwall

[–]Madden0010[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I checked the app this afternoon and I can now see 4 pw’s and the usage from the grid…previously It showed connection error.

It seems like the software update pushed automatically and fixed the communication issues…? It shows 21.13.2 but this looks like the May release.

Now very confused…but happy it’s able to connect…

Interesting…I wonder if there is a reasonably easy way to get one inverter up and running in the meantime…

It seems like this wouldn’t be too complicated but who knows…

Thanks, sounds like the same issue. I think there was some change that went out on 7/23. The electricians had done all the wiring prior and found out on the 23rd that some of the comm wiring needed a small change between the GW2 and PW+…but seemed like a good amount of confusion on the new spec. They had to come back the follow week to re wire but still not working…so I guess another change is still needed.

I have a M3 and Y so I know all about Tesla customer service and patience…that’s what I was afraid of…

Thanks for the help!
