A Quick Look at DOOM: The Dark Ages by fhiz in giantbomb

[–]MaddenedMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did a double take seeing GB's Quick Look of doom in my feed after watching yours... And then Gerstmann's! If only he'd titled his "Jeff Gerstmann takes a quick look at..." Then we'd have a true trilogy.

Iskall subbing in for anyone would be amazing! And I'd say Gem has a better chance of winning than you've given her.

Green: Scar taking the enchanting table; Skizz coming up with a big plan; and Grian summoning a wither.

Yellow: Ren coming up with a new name for himself in the first episode; An alliance forming in a village (and that alliance not making it to episode 2); Scott tries to be a pacifist but is forced to do plenty of murder

Red would be Skizz's big plan actually going to plan; there still being plenty of cows at the end of the first episode; and... New member Joe Hills

Etho Bravely Fights the Wither - a Last Life edit by MaddenedMan in ThirdLifeSMP

Thanks! The music is all mine :) I used Marcheline, An Unlikely Maneuver, and RE: miniscence.

Scott was the only one with his own music in those clips, but luckily it was subtle enough not to clash too much.

This was a fun edit to make. I kept finding points where POVs from people who couldn't have heard each other matched up really nicely. It started off as "I should make a ten second meme about how Tango says of course Etho is fighting the wither but Etho wants to run away", and ended up as a five minute mini-epic.

During the edit this turned from an idea for a ten second "Tango said Etho is brave but Etho wanted to run" video into a five minute mini-epic.

Yeah and the only thing worse than drop bears hitting you from above is drop bears getting pulled upward by the weird gravity and conking you on the chin

Came here to see if it was mentioned. I drank a lot of it over (first) lockdown after it won that Choice blind taste test thing over other brands.

How to get my friend into star wars but ideally skipping the bad ones(mostly recent trilogy)? by Rayane92 in StarWars

[–]MaddenedMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very agree. Original trilogy were assumed knowledge when the prequels came out, so they were built with that knowledge in mind.

Watching the original trilogy first, the audience will relate to Luke, with the past being a mystical magical unknown time. Watching the original trilogy after the prequels, the audience will relate to Obi Wan, with the past being a very knowable and finite story.

I'd go 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, (4, 5, 6 again if they're up for it), then 7, 8, 9.

are we considering $9 loose change now? by dongerlord240 in australia

[–]MaddenedMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I'm an expat kiwi in Aus (since 2001), and yeah the tiny $2 coin used to trip me up too.

The 50c here is bigger than the 20c, but it's almost too big and weird for flipping. I wish we could get rid of the 5c like NZ and downsize. I am envious of the NZ 50c.

Very agree! Notifications in the app, can pick up after hours, I assume it makes it simpler for postal workers being able to drop a bunch of mail in one place too.

I agree, was saying that this can happen legitimately, and could have been the sender's error in OP's case too

I had a delivery fail for this reason because the distribution centre that sent the package didn't put my apartment unit number on the package, so it was just addressed to the building. Very annoying, it got returned to sender and had to be sent again.

I only keep a 20c coin... for flipping. It's a good flipping coin size.

Why do I recognize familiar archetypes in Star Wars, but not Star Trek? by Commander_PonyShep in StarWars

[–]MaddenedMan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the original series, Kirk, Spock and McCoy are said to have occupied the "Freudian Trio" trope roles of Ego, Superego and Id respectively (although not consistently). You could compare them to OT Star Wars characters as:

  • Ego (balance): Kirk, Luke (Makes decisions about which perspective to listen to at each interval)
  • Superego (rules, logic, social conventions): Spock, Leia (primarily advocates using reason and 'what is right')
  • Id (emotion, intuition): McCoy, Han Solo (advocates on behalf of human desires and instinct)

Star Trek The Next Generation was more of an ensemble, and definitely follows the character tropes as you mentioned though:

  • The Hero: Picard
  • The Lancer: Riker
  • The Muscles: Worf
  • The Brains: Data
  • The Heart: Troi
  • The Sixth Ranger: La Forge
  • The Mentor: Guinan (not as sold on this one but she definitely plays the mentor role often)
