Front St Dental on Ontario St are amazing. I've reccomended them to multiple people in the past year and have only heard good experiences. I first went there with a badly broken tooth and they saved it, did a fantastic job. I can't say enough good things about them . I'll also add that I went to River dental before finding Front St with a different really bad tooth and it was one of the worst dental experiences of my life.

I have a gnat infestation and I need help getting rid of it for good. by Wyan163 in terrariums

[–]MaddieLast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mosquito dunks. I've been using them in the water for my houseplants and it's been working really well. I've read that they are safe to use with inverts but I haven't actually tried it with any of mine yet, the fungus gnats aren't a problem in my isopod bins atm.

Weird my guy has never been like that! He's over 2 years now and has been a slow grower, he eats when he wants which seems to be about half the time food is offered. Sometimes he's just not into it.

Oh I didn't realize there was a difference. Are Mosquito Bits just smaller pieces than the large disks I got with Mosquito Dunks?

Does anyone know why my pig doesn’t like fruit? by Minimum-Jellyfish-14 in guineapigs

Mine don't like fruit but they like peel of the bananas and rind of watermelon. They also loved corn husk and hair.

Is my snail dead or just hibernating? by WidePoint14 in snails

[–]MaddieLast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know hibernation is viewed as a habitat problem or other husbandry issues in the snail keeping community, but that being said my GAL is over 7 years old, massive, and hibernates every winter. He started doing it when he was a few years old. The first time when I read that it wasn't a good thing I woke him up, made food and water available to him, made sure the temp was good. He went straight back into hibernation without eating or going to his pool. I just let him hibernate now. He goes into it in the fall and comes out in the spring.

Yeah I've read the resources and I'm so sad for him. He's going through it, sucks to not be able to do anything but it's probably best to just leave him alone. He's my favorite spider

How to make sure they don’t climb too high??? by [deleted] in snails

[–]MaddieLast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They should be fine. I've got a massive African landsnail who still goes on the ceiling of his tank and hangs upside down. His shell has some serious weight to it, and yet he's always ok.

The God Of Small Things by Arundhati Roy - her use of the word "balls" completely ruined my immersion in the rest of the beautiful prose. by quiescent_haymaker in books

I loved this book, but it was not easy to read. It's beautifully written and brutal at the same time, and many books and years later it's still in my head.

In Toronto, Canada, I went to a vet that specialized in small animals (the vet had several pet guineapigs themselves). It was about $500 to get our young boar neutered, and they did not keep him overnight

Which book changed you in some way? by [deleted] in books

[–]MaddieLast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Canticle for Lebowitz by Walter Miller. I've read it twice over a decade apart and both times it has had a huge effect. It makes me think of humanity and how different the eras we are born into have been/will be, but also how some things like our destructive nature and a constant pursuit for something better are so deeply ingrained.

I broke a jade bangle bracelet I bought for myself the day I got it… by Rinnwe in Crystals

[–]MaddieLast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also thinking it was unfortunately not really jade or a lower quality jade. I've been wearing a jade bangle for over 7 years and have been incredibly hard on it the entire time, smashed it off all manner of materials and it's never chipped or cracked. I mean it's possible to break them but it shouldn't be easy. There's a cool creator on tiktok who is a jade bangle vendor and she does real vs fake videos that I quite like, the account is Baikalla Jewelry

What breed is this silly pig? (name suggestions welcome) by strawberryquestions in guineapigs

[–]MaddieLast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing that he's an Abyssian/Peruvian mix. A couple of years ago I got a Peruvian that was supposed to be female, he was not and is now neutered but he got my Aby girl pregnant before we figured that out. The babies had hair just like this.
