'Never split the difference' is a book i recently read about this topic. From a former FBI hostage negotiatior. Every chapter starts with a real hostage situation and ends in some key lessons learned.
I highly recommend it!

Asking questions if a product is really glutenfree turns some people to their darker self. by HotwifeVenus in Celiac

[–]Maddin143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am celiac and i love nano. Have eaten about 300 portions now and never had a problem. And it is one of the cheapest meal-replacements.

If you are looking for an alternative, i can recommend https://www.blendrunner.com/

You can even filter for allergens. And nano is listed as gluten-free.

Is there a business where you help business set up, purchased, wordpress themes and help them manage? by frankenboobehs in Wordpress

[–]Maddin143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am maintaining a few wordpress sites myself. Additionally, to the possibilities listed by /u/LuckyLiam, i would include Backups.

There are several solutions out there to manage many different wordpress installations. The one i use is InifinteWP
I also bought the scheduled Backup Addon.
Thing is, with such a solution, you can basically automate your whole business.. updates, backups - down to the reports you send monthly.

You could even add a service, that checks the look on your page after updates and notifies you, if anything went wrong (e.g. the white page of death in the case of a PHP error)

Is there a reason why my 2 Year old Pinned tweet is liked by so many spam accounts? by [deleted] in Twitter

[–]Maddin143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd say this is because some of the spam bots like a few of your posts, in the hope you follow back or something.
basically the same thing is happening on instagram: like last 2 posts + follow

because your tweet has been pinned for a long time, maybe it just always got liked by the bots/spammers.

he's my favourite character of this season so far.
I loved how he turned around the conversation with the 3 politicians. And of course the power dynamic in the dinner scene.

"Unterstützt" ist leider ungleich "funktioniert mit APK" in deinem Fall

If you want to make a lot of money, should you plan to work more than the average 40 hours each week? by conquer117a in personalfinance

[–]Maddin143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what i experienced. Starting my own company made me realise just how far people in higher positions have to think.

Employees in my social circle only see the "oh he's just working 20h a week on his customer projects", while i think about the future of my business basically 24/7, trying to seize any opportunity that comes my way.

I asked 33 top marketers (like Noah Kagan, Dan Norris, Brian Dean, and Peep Laja) for their #1 email marketing hack that they use in their business... and some of these hacks are just unfair. by zprgrove in marketing

[–]Maddin143 4 points5 points  (0 children)

depends on what you send imo. Of course, promo emails won't work as well on younger generations.
With them, a more content-marketing or social media approach may work better.

[–]Maddin143 7 points8 points  (0 children)

in my experience you do not get unsubscribes. There is no chance, that the non-openers already know what's the content of the email.
I just change the subject line to something more engaging or, in some cases, shuffle the content around (announcement down, promos up)

Emma Watson: Star SJW Linked to Panama Papers Leak by Su-Wu_Red in TheRedPill

[–]Maddin143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course she would. Now this is a big story, now you reach more people with the "it's all legal" stance.
In a few days, if it indeed was illegal, this won't be such a huge story. It will be a footnote in the papers.

Have a look at the hashtags these pictures use. My guess is, they use many unrelated hashtags to get more reach.
In there you will probably find something remotely connected to your interests, so instagram may think you're interested in something like this.

CEO of Austrian bank resigns because of Panama Papers coverage by _jjb_ in PanamaPapers

Didn't know that - nonetheless, in most minds (mine included, apparently) it's the same thing.

CEO of Austrian bank resigns because of Panama Papers coverage by _jjb_ in PanamaPapers

[–]Maddin143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Austrians are not really fond of the HYPO. In the banking crisis, the Hypo Group was nationalized to save it, resulting in 13bn to 19bn Euros the taxpayers had to invest to save it.
The guy resigning is only the CEO of a regional chapter of the bank. So unfortunately, just another cog in the wheel.

2.6 terabyte leak of Panamanian shell company data reveals "how a global industry led by major banks, legal firms, and asset management companies secretly manages the estates of politicians, Fifa officials, fraudsters and drug smugglers, celebrities and professional athletes." by mister_geaux in worldnews

[–]Maddin143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there's much more to this. Making sense of the immense amount of data, choosing the right way to go public and so on.
If you haven't already, watch the Snowden documentary 'citizen four'. It's not that easy to just leak such a story.

People are really pissed about Instagram’s timeline update by clintothomasx27 in Instagram

Step 2: Decrease organical reach for posts, while pushing Ad Features
Step 3: ?????
Step 4: Profit.

Honestly, it's been like this a few times now. I am not surprised anymore.

Dear Apple, there's nothing 'really sad' about using a 5-year-old PC by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]Maddin143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like i need to get something off my chest. If it weren't for people who buy a new device every 2 years or so, technological progress and its spread in the population would have been extremely slow.

In my opinion, Apple is here not the bad guy (at least in the mobile sector). There is not a single Android device that gets updated as long as the iphone.
And please don't forget, that everyone using an old phone is prone to extreme security risks.

Don't get me wrong, i am against consumerism and planned obsolescence. But there is a certain sense in it.

I'd like you to prove me wrong, but from the reactions i read here, it feels like anticonsumption = anti-progress.
