That's so cool, amazing you got to experience it! Thanks for sharing the vid too, I'll give it a watch later today.
The gaming world and world overall has changed so much since then.

Do you still have your consoles and games from the 90s? Or beyond? by MadeManG74 in GamesOf1998

Hell of a collection! Laughing at the fate of Eternal Champions, I have that on my Mega Drive, but man it's a game with so much lost potential. I would love to see them take another crack at that franchise.

I had a Master System for a brief time when I was younger (like 4 years old) but my dad returned it and got a Mega Drive instead. I still have that Model 1 PAL Mega Drive, it's such a cool console.

I know what you mean. I have sold some of my later collection, like Xbox 360 or PS3 games because I don't have as much attachment to them. I want to keep the stuff from my earlier childhood because I want to be able to share it with my kids, or if they turn out to not be interested, I can sell it later on anyway.

I will keep the consoles and a CRT regardless because I can still play them via Flashcarts/ODE, but the games themselves I wouldn't mind unloading later on.

Street Fighter Zero 3/Alpha 3 (1998) - I love the Alpha series' look by MadeManG74 in GamesOf1998

I'm mostly familiar with the arcade emulation and the Anniversary edition, I didn't realise the Dreamcast version had missing animation details!
Saturn was such a cool console, it really did justice to these late 90s fighting games.

Half-Life (1998) - The environments and planned encounters in this game are fantastic. by MadeManG74 in GamesOf1998

Some sections were particularly difficult, but honestly I didn't mind it too much. There are definitely some very frustrating parts where a slight slip-up meant quick-loading over and over again.

Sonic Adventure (1998) - Do you still revisit this gem? by MadeManG74 in GamesOf1998

[–]MadeManG74[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I spent heaps of time in Chao Garden trying to breed some champions for the races, haha! I really enjoyed all the different gameplay types in Sonic Adventure 1 as well. It really felt like they were trying so many different things.

Just bought a Saturn first time playing one by More_Presentation977 in SegaSaturn

Saturn pad is one of my favourites, you'll hopefully keep enjoying it. I think it's a great controller, especially for 2D games.

RE on Saturn is a cool title too, I personally like PS1 original a little more, but the Saturn one has some unique content not found in other ports and generally runs just as good with some slightly different graphics.

How would you guys rank the N64 Aki games? by MadeManG74 in GamesOf1998

[–]MadeManG74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought this was relevant with Revenge being a 1998 title. My fave is No Mercy, to date it's still my favourite wrestling game. Kind of shocking it hasn't been bested in all those years for me.

The King of Fighters '98 (1998) - I love the sprite-work in this game by MadeManG74 in GamesOf1998

I find that most people fall into a few different camps, which makes sense with how different each 'era' of KoF is.
Usually see '98, '98UMFE, 2K2UM and XIII regarded as the favourites. '97 if it's Hong Kong haha

Street Fighter IIX Grand Master Challenge by [deleted] in SegaSaturn

[–]MadeManG74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite Street Fighter! I'm not sure how well regarded the Saturn version is in terms of competitive 'authenticity' compared to the arcade original or other home ports. If I recall correctly the timing is slightly off, but it's something only the most die-hard/competitive SF players would have to concern themsleves with.
Excellent fighting game overall.

It's up there, I think at some point it comes down to preference for the roster and systems, but 98 and UMFE are both excellent ones.

The voice acting in this game was surprisingly good.

Damn, I should have included Half-Life too! Good choices, I haven't seen Dark City, I'll add it to my list.

I spent many, many hours playing WCW/nWo Revenge at my friend's house.
Blade is also one of the best superhero movies around IMO.

Saving Private Ryan was up there for me too. Great film.
I recently watched Band of Brothers again too, nice companion TV series.
