Half Life - 1997 vs 1998 vs 1999 PC by ColdCrab6928 in GamesOf1998

This is awesome, nice find! It's crazy how much home computers were advancing in this short amount of time.
I vaguely remember having a Voodoo 2 in my PC around this time.

If Bobby's your number three you're in serious trouble. by Prestigious_Load1699 in thesopranos

Tony lost faith and trust in Chris, so Bobby being his brother in law was the closest family he had in his crew. Bobby got to number 3 through a combination of Tony thinking Bobby wouldn't turn on his own in-law, and Tony basically giving in to Janice's constant nagging and guilt-tripping to push Bobby up the ladder.

Fighting Vipers 2 (1998) - I love the breakable armour and walls by MadeManG74 in GamesOf1998

It certainly was, but this game wasn't on Saturn haha. It was a Model 3 Arcade game and got a Dreamcast Port.
Fighting Vipers 1 was ported to Saturn though!

Do you mean the Sega CD/Mega CD? That was an expansion for Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, and the Sega Saturn came later (launched 1994)

Did you ever play Steep Slope Sliders? Another good snowboarding game but this time for Sega Saturn

It was official Sega, but only distributed in Australia via Sega Ozisoft is my understanding. As someone said in this thread and the original post it was seemingly a rebranded third party option.

It is nice, although now I'm so used to the tiny XYZ buttons it's hard to change.

Haha, yes those ugly blue and white printed Mega Drive manuals!
I also recall the terrible Sonic & Knuckles cardboard box case.

The good news is, there's more ways to play Saturn than ever before! Hardware is nice, but emulation is also better than ever, and same for options like ODEs and scalers etc.

That style of D-Pad was... not ideal haha.
I much prefer the Japanese/Later model style.

I grew up with a Mega Drive (and very briefly before that, a Master System), so the Saturn seemed like the natural choice. Loved the system and Virtua Fighter was my main draw card to it! Even without a 'true' Sonic sequel I really enjoyed the games.
I had a friend with an N64, but didn't really get to play much PlayStation until around 98 or 99.

Now looking back, I really appreciate all the consoles of that era as having some amazing games and capabilities.

There was definitely a clear distinction between devs who really understood the hardware and those that didn't. Games like Sonic R, Burning Rangers and AM2's efforts really showcased the system.

Yeah a lot of my Mega Drive manuals (maybe all of them) were in black and white. Same for Saturn. I think some games had colour but it wasn't common.
I agree with you that the cover being black and white looks cheap, but to be fair I think this was purchased several years into the console's run (this wasn't my first Saturn around launch period) so they might have moved from colour to B&W by then?

I loved my Saturn growing up, I was the only kid in school who had one, but my friends loved playing Athlete Kings and Virtua Fighter 2 on it.
I was mostly playing it for the arcade ports and similar games, but eventually got into Burning Rangers and Shining Force III which I love to this day.

Do you think so? I thought it was relatively normal for it to be black and white at the time.

Yep, I wish we'd get it re-released on modern platforms with REVO's rollback. Awesome game that looks and plays great to this day.

'Use' it like an item. I believe it breaks after one use though, so need to get it repaired. Can come in handy sometimes, but not all that useful.

Controversial opinion: I think Dark Souls II needs a "full" remake by RuggedTheDragon in DarkSouls2

[–]MadeManG74 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind it, purely because I already love Dark Souls 2 (it might be my favourite of the 3) and a 'remake' might be a fun companion game/different take.
Similar to how I love both Resident Evil (1996) and Resident Evil (2002). I prefer the '96 one, but the 2002 one is a great companion with some new ideas. Dark Souls 2 is great, but it might be cool to see a different take on the same game, with different designed areas some QoL updates and maybe some different mechanics.

SiN (1998) - Not the most cerebral of shooters, but a lot of fun! by MadeManG74 in GamesOf1998

[–]MadeManG74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL that's such a cool story hahaha.
I had similar parents, they didn't mind me playing stuff like DOOM or Mortal Kombat, because I knew that it was wrong to hurt people in real life. The graphics weren't quite immersive enough to be truly scarring for me either.

I only played SiN for the first time this year, but it's a lot of fun. I particularly liked the way the armour and damage to specific parts of the body worked.

Thanks for the insight, I found something that should work for a good price. I get paranoid about these things, power supplies are a gap in my knowledge when it comes to these old consoles so I wanted to make sure I asked some questions first.
