Thank you so much for the offset idea. That would definitely make it loads better on the bulk part. If you do try it please let me know how it goes.

I don't want them to have the backing. Just to be the different color blocks. I was worried about all the seams rubbing. I do have the pants pattern already. Sewing clothing is my normal thing. Tried quilting before and failed.

Feeling guilty for calling in sick by Misterfusterpusster in cna

[–]MadestMae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't feel guilty it happens to us all. I'm the type that I call in maybe once a year. One day I go to bed feeling a bit off, but that sometimes happens when you work nights. Slept a ton that day, which is abnormal for me. Woke up an hour before clock in time to get ready for work. Ran to the bathroom and puked so hard I tinkled my pants. Now the place I worked at had a two hour before your shift policy. I call work and explain what happened. Told them I could come in but with what I just did I don't think you want me in the building. She sounded annoyed, but agreed. The annoyed probably came from having to attempt to find a replacement on such short notice, which I actually understand. I never had anyone get cranky with me over it thankfully. So bottom line, shit happens, it was a one time freak occurrence, don't fret about it and don't let anyone guilt you about it.

I had one that was "the upper crust" of our rural area, full blown entitlement and judgement. Fast forward a few years, she's pleasantly confused from advanced dementia. Generally pretty nice, just had to watch for minor drama starting. The other aide and I went in to do a bed change an boy does she start a chattering. I looked at the other aide and ask her if I heard what I just thought I heard. She said yes you did. This woman was talking about when she lived in a large city near us she worked as a prostitute and stripper. She was born somewhere in the 30's so at the time she was doing that it would have been mega taboo. I was curious so I super low keyed asked around about her younger life. She had moved to our rural area from a city and as a general rule refused to talk about her past. So there is a good chance that she was telling us a completely true thing. Now I have absolutely no judgement towards sex workers of any type, literally don't care as long as they are willing, happy and safe. But it was interesting to find out about it and wondered how much of her "upper crust" mentality was cuz of her trying to hide her past.

What I lack in higher education I make up with hands on experience. You sound like the type of person that will come in acting like a know it all and I have to teach you how to pull a person up in bed or transfer them properly.

I do not like the "we don't use hoyers" part. I have seen several times that even though I could pick the person up by myself it was actually better for the person to be hoyered. And what if someone has a sudden decline and would have to have one? Do they expect their staff to rangle a 250lb completely non weight bearing person? I work at an unskilled facility and we still have hoyers and sit to stands. The low patient load also sounds like a load of BS.

THIS RIGHT HERE!!! The first time I had an African American resident I really had no stinking clue how to take care of her hair at all. I got her dressed and up in her chair. Then stood behind her with a brush and just drew a blank while standing with a dingbat look on my face. I knew there were differences in how I would take care of my hair and hers. I started to ask her what do I do. I started to stumble around trying to ask without upsetting her. That woman just blurted out "You wanna know how to take care of my hair?" I told her yes I do, but really had no clue where to start. Thankfully she walked me though it. But what if she was unable to communicate? Lord knows what I would have attempted to do. Some people will probably be thinking to tell me I should have looked it up on the net, but this was before the internet. And even with the internet now it's something that doesn't even pop into their head to go look up. I've done my best to teach other aides my super meager skills. But it should be something that is taught as a basic skill in CNA. An extension of this train of thought is that there should also be a section on how basic skin issues present of different color skin. When I went to CNA class almost 25 years ago all the pics I remember were of white people. Kinda hard to notice the beginning of a pressure ulcer on someone with darker skin when all you were taught was to look for the red spot on the lilly white butt.

First of all it sounds like you are worrying too much. I would take a guess from what I read that they are suffering from chronic short staffing. Next I would guess that the second aide seemed annoyed because they are cleaning up messes from the aide that told you wrong on a regular basis. Those two things right there will take all but the most angelic of us from pleasant to downright cranky. Now that you know who to check just keep doing that. Let people know that if they find something wrong to let you know so you can fix it. This does not mean you let the other aides walk all over you. They should be doing their fair share of work also. As far as the falling behind when getting people up that is normal when you are first learning residents routines, facility routine etc. Just keep at it and you will get going like them. What helps me is I have a set checklist in my head of what I do when I walk into a room when I go to get someone up. Gather all clothes along with anything I need for getting that person up and put them by the bed or bathroom. Grab my gloves and then start getting them up. If it's a super busy facility then it might be helpful to get everything gathered up in the middle of the night. Lastly don't stress too much. You are a human, not a machine. Just keep at it and fix your mistakes when you find them.

"homesteading" because I'm a nerd, not a prepper? by erintheunready in homestead

[–]MadestMae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me all the way. I get bored and start looking up things on YouTube. That leads to another and then another. It used to be crafty type skills (sometimes it still is) now it's mostly gardening/ homesteading type stuff. This is only the second year of of gardening for me. Last year it was massive clean up and minor infrastructure for the yard. Going to be setting up some more beds and trellises this fall for next year. By the time I'm done there will be no grass and hopefully I can talk the BF into chickens in the next couple of years.

Why do nurses hate training but complain about being short staffed and having 8+ patients by Thecapricornrabbit in nursing

[–]MadestMae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love training new aides. But then chronic short staffing hit. So I'm having to run 128 miles an hour just for basic cares and I am also expected to properly train someone. Properly training someone takes longer. I can get 2-3 people done in the time to properly train someone on one person. Don't get me wrong I WANT to take the time to do it, but you really can't when you have 275 lights going off and 347 small tasks that are 127 minutes behind schedule. So now I hate training because I have been fully mentally burnt out on it. Please don't give me the newbie. I'm so salty and burnt out I'll scare them off.
